I - Introduction to Herobrine
Herobrine (also known as HIM) originally appeared in a single picture which was detailing an encounter a minecraft forum member had had. Many people just shrugged this off, or didn't even notice the thread had been posted.
It wasn't until a bit later when a group of video makers, the Bro Cast, staged a hoax wherein Herobrine had appeared in one of their livestreams.
He's generically seen as another player, nearly always seen in Single Player. He usually looks similar to the default 'Steve' minecraft skin. However, he can be less commonly seen as animals like sheeps or cows. In his human form he, unlike another player on an SMP server, will have no name tag above his head.
He can follow the player around their world.
In some forms of the legend, he is passive, and just stands there and watches you, but in others, he is slightly more malevolent. He can chase the player, burn down their houses and place random blocks, usually spelling letters of his name, but also creating random structures.
If you'd like to read the original story, you can do so here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/images/6/68/1283223082465.jpg" target=""HERE
II - Appearance/Photographs
About 95% of the claims about Herobrine depict him as an artificially intelligent player with the default 'Steve' skin, but his pupils are a chilling white. After a long time of investigating photos, no other significant changes have been made to the skin.
But what does he look like the other 5% of the time? He can appear as any passive mob. Most commonly a cow or sheep, but sometimes a chicken, and even less likely, a pig. These sightings are much less common. Well, they could just be overlooked due to the fact that animals spawn a lot more frequently than humans do in single player.
I have included some photos below. Some are thumbnails, but others are much larger and more detailed:
III - Findings about Herorine
Many people don't even believe he exists, that he's just a myth created by a random forum user.
For those who do believe he exists, they think he's Notches dead brother, or just something the developers added to the game to give unaware players a scare.
He was supposedly seen for the first time in Alpha v1.0.16_02, which was released around the middle of August, 2010. What did this update do? It fixed a 'mysterious' death bug.
This seemed interesting at first, until I realised that it didn't have much relevance to the story. The only thing I could find that links these two together is the fact that, in the original story, or sighting, Herobrine is passive. He actually seems to be scared of the player. Maybe he had existed before Alpha v1.0.12_02, but he was much more hostile then.
Just a quick spout of information about Herobrine, taken mostly from the Minecraft Wiki:
- He's often believed to just be a retextured door or painting.
- He's appeared in many livestreams, but the people have announced it was a trick. However, I'll talk about that later.
- He's appeared in a lot of official Mojang artwork.
- A lot of people related him to the music disk '11', although C418 says that it has no relevance to Herobrine.
Something that I've found really interesting, is that although this was the first time people had heard of herobrine, it doesn't mean that this guy was the first to see him.
IV - Arguments for Herobrine
Let's take a look at some things to do with the original Herobrine posting:
- After posting a thread about Herobrine, the thread was deleted.
- He then receives a PM from somebody named Herobrine, with just one word. "Stop"
- Upon further investigation of his profile, he got a 404 page.
Most people find this to be the deciding factor of them not believing Herobrine's existance. "How can something in the game go on the forum?"
Well, let's take a look at some other interesting things:
- Commonly, fear can make a human do absolutely anything, including killing the people they love the most. (Which will be discussed more later on)
- There's nothing in the code for Herobrine, so if he was real, he mightn't (no, he most definitely would NOT) be constrained to just the game. There's nothing keeping him there.
So just retouching on my last point, if Herobrine DOES exist, manipulating the forums wouldn't be something incredibly hard for him to do.
Now, quickly touching on a point I've said before, "Fear can make a human do absolutely anything." What I mean by this, is that, although the 'creator', or first sighter as I like to call him, has said that his story was fake, it wouldn't be hard for a creature like Herobrine to scare him enough to say that.
This can also be applied to all the people that have, I guess featured, him in a live stream.
Now, for Notch's, and other developers, claims of him not existing. Here's a few reasons why they said that:
1. They know for a fact he doesn't.
2. He really is an outside entity that has 'leaked' into the game without anybody noticing, and they've just never seen him before.
3. They've all seen him, and know he isn't in the code, but knows if they prove his existence, something bad will happen.
IIV - Arguments against Herobrine
A lot of people, understandably, were shocked when the change 'Removed Herobrine' in the 1.6.6 update, how ever this was just in relation to the human mob. This went on for the patch notes of 1.7, 1.8 and 1.0, until finally returning in 1.2. However, all of those times, it was without any apprent cause.
In 1.2.5, it was stated that all ghost entities were removed under the command of Lord Herobrine, however this was referring to things such as the 'ghost' TNT on SMP servers.
All of these make Herobrine seem like a joke, making the myth fake.
VI - What exactly is Herobrine
Now for a change. I've talked about the more logical side of things, so let's delve a bit deeper. What is Herobrine? Is he merely some code? A ghost? A demon?
Nobody has a definitive answer about who or what he is. When I first saw him, one word flashed instantly into my mind. Skin-walker, or a Shape Shifter. However, we can get to that a bit later. I want to firstly talk about the thing nearly everybody thinks he is: The ghost of Notch's dead brother.
In Herobrine's initial appearance, he was this ghost. This has, according to skeptics, been proving wrong by Notch in a twitter post, stating that he does have a brother, but he's never met him and that he's well and alive.
Being someone who actively researches supernatural and paranormal creatures, he fits a lot of the characterisations of a Skin-walker.
According to the Native Americans, Skin-walkers can take the shape and form of any creature that it desires. When it does, it'll have the same glint/shine in its eyes like an animals. A lot of people would have seen this in cats:
As you can see, this cats eyes, if you look at it long enough, are yellow, but with this animalistic glint, are considerably white.
For you people like me who research this stuff on a common basis, you'd know that a Skin-walker needs some form of DNA to transform, which wouldn't be hard to acquire considering the amount of travelling you do, you'd leave a large amount of DNA everywhere.
However, there is one thing that makes this seemingly true theory fall. A Skin-walker has never been noted to take possesion of anything. They've stayed limited to their own entity.
So is Herobrine a ghost, or just another supernatural creature?
Nearly everybody who believes in Herobrine says that he is a ghost. However, if we take a look at a popular saying, we can disprove this theory.
"Eyes are the mirror of the soul"
Take a look at Herobrine. Everything about him is the same as you, he's a mirror image...except for one thing. His eyes. They're blank, completely emotionless and soulless.
What does this have to do with ghosts? Well, a ghost is a physical embodiment of a soul. However, Herobrine doesn't have a soul due to his eyes, therefore he cant not be a ghost.
VII - SMP (How to tell between Herobrine and a prank)
- If there is lava or anything involving the nether, it's a prank. Herobrine isn't even 'part' of the nether.
- If there is signs, it isn't Herobrine. He doesn't want to make contact, he just wants to overlook you.
- If he is holding any items, it's a prank.
- If he approaches you, or even attacks you, it's a prank. He hates hostility.
- If he's invisible, it's a prank. Herorine wants you to know he's looking out for you.
Here are some videos of Herobrine pranks. If any of these happen to you, then it's a prank.
The above video is fake for many reasons:
1. He's invisible.
2. He's placing signs and blocks.
3. He's holding items.
This video is fake as Herobrine has a name tag above his head.
IX - Conclusion
Do I personally believe in him? No, but I'm sick of all these people saying he doesn't exist with any proof to back themselves up.
The real question is "does he exist?" I can't give you a definitive answer to that, it's up to you to decide.
Thanks for reading, and I hope this has provided you with some new thoughts about Herobrine.
Please, if you believe there is anything that should be added/removed, please say so. Also, if there's something you'd like me to take a much deeper look into, please tell me. I'd really like to get this to be the most informative thread about Herobrine.
In my mind, Herobrine is a large myth that went out of control. Notch said he isn't real, and tons and tons and tons and tons of people have admitted to faking him in videos/pictures/stories. It's fun to joke around with, but he isn't real. The patch note thingy was just because Notch was joking. All i need is Notch's word that he isn't real, and the fact that tons people admitted to faking it, and i have my proof.
I actually believe Herobrine is a hacker. Not one of those retarded ones who hack into your computer and take all your money, deleting system32 and all that crap.
I think he's a player (According to the minecraft.net webpage, Herobrine DOES exist as a normal player) who hacks into your SP worlds as that "No Pupil'd Dude" and just sits there to scare you off.
I have been resherching herobrine for a while and it says the brother notch always use herobrine as his user name. Somewere else i seen herobrine in some othere language it means ghost or gone so what i want to know if herobrine ever existed in minecraft and if so is he still there
Wow, I'm finally glad there's an informative post about HIM. Most people say "I saw herobrine!" but then never give a picture. Then others say he's not real and never say why they don't think he is. This thread really helps people in understanding who HE is.
I think he is real because in my creative world I don't build nothing I am flatting the world and at one corner there was a 4×4×6 rectangular thing that was filled with stone and made out of stone and had a tree in it.
I`ve seen Herobrine on a multiplayer server we all had the mod pixelmon and I would encounter a Shiny Growlithe Level 100 I tried to catch it but it was caught but its title said wild. My friend saw him when I went to him after he saw the same pokemon and I got a screenshot after a while of running and trying to live and there was Three Herobrines So I logged out after a while and the server was down and I waited untill yesterday and went home and sign was near my window saying HeRoBrInE so I went to my farm he was looking at the sign and vanishes So I got Arry to check the sign out and it was gone.I thought I was going crazy after a while then it hit me my friend Redfox and Dreaa so is he coming to scare us... Now Imma private my doors and figure this out

Herobrine threads are not allowed on the forums. Herobrine was a hoax. He is not real, never was real, and never will be real.
