I apologize for being harsh, but I don't think you, Homem Pigman, are actually being that open to ideas as you seem to claim. For example:
-You claim that your version leaves space to imagination despite stating a few utterly dogmatic ideas, like pigs evolving from pigmen or creepers being intelligent and malevolent or dominant.
-Then, while stating some things, you handwave the other things. For example, how many endermen are there in the tiny land of the End if you can kill them indefinitely? If spawning/respawning is just a game mechanic and should not be covered, than how do we explain the farming of enderpearls to open the portal? "And then I was wandering around a desert an accidentally meet so rare and unique endermen 12 times in a row". That's not the best way to explain an idea, I'll think on that later.
-Also, what's with the "unoriginal and cliched lore" stuff? And what's wrong with it being in a story if it is reasonable? Maybe it's better to just refute the bad ideas and keep the good ones.
Now that the harsh part is over, please allow me to clarify a few things:
1.) Are there any grounds for creepers and slimes being sentient apart from the author's wish to give them more credit? Also, what's with the handwave to creepers not having any arms to hold stuff?
2.) Importantly, what do you intend to do here: to just write your own comprehensive and original story or to actually gather some ideas and help build up some more common lore? Because if it is the former, there's little point in discussing anything on this thread.
Since you are definitely being demagogic about the approach (the fix on originality, the "Herobrine is BS and Notch is not there"), I suggest discussing the more general and universal details about the world of Minecraft so we can actually flesh out some consistent lore on which players can base their own interpretations and fanfiction.
Here's another topic that hasn't been discussed on this thread: magic vs. technology. Basically the gap between these is not too big, and these are only words used to describe similar processes. My idea is, for the purposes of this discussion we consider as "magic" anything that has to do with the higher order of natural laws ruling in the world, while "technology" is something that may look like magic due to it's sheer scientific complexity.
If we take experience orbs as an example, we would consider an explanation like "condensed life energy that you can accumulate" as "magic" while "these are the energy cores implanted into living beings by an ancient civilization" is a bit more "scientific" (please don't take it too seriously in this case).
Would you mind explaining brewing and enchanting from this point of view?
If anyone here is interested in developing the common lore (that involves separating opinions from the facts as opposed to making up one truly consistent storyline), feel free to reply, criticize anything to hell or invite me to your own similar threads. Thank you!
Good Lord, what a mess of a post. I'd better sleep more before writing anything.
This is awesome. But, one problem: If the Pigmen are so techologically advanced, you'd think that they wouldn't bother with gold swords because they're weak and don't deal much damage. And how do they get gold if they're in the nether anyway?
AMAZING the only thing i ask is what do you think about the two figures talking to you and to each other about you are after you defeat the Ender Dragon and what the words we "can't understand" are? but otherwise many diamonds for you
hmm well there are a few things i dont like. the ender became of existence is one thing. it seems more like the Pigmen accidently opened the portal and started the endermen invasion lead by the enderdragon. but your idea explains it all as well.
Every other story uses that. I want to stay original.

Good Lord, what a mess of a post. I'd better sleep more before writing anything.
If you hate how people want to have their own story so much, then why the hell are you in the internet? Do you even know what fan fiction means? It's meant to be ideas a fan makes up and puts together in a story. Jeez.
Don't like my story, it's your opinion I respect that. But there's no need to try to cram in unrelated ideas "for the sake of common lore" as you say.
Now, may I suggest you hate criticism a lot then? Since I did not really expect such emotional defence against formulated questions. And I still would like to discuss the points raised here unless you don't feel like that.
Would you mind to clarify the following points:
1.) Could you claim any part of your story as common lore?
2.) Would you prefer your story to be based on common lore or to derive from it?
3.) Do you think common lore is a legitimate thing or rather than every interpretation of Minecraft universe is completely separated from the others?
And also, what ideas of mine do you consider unrelated?

No. If you had read the thread you'd see I love cricticism. But you hate the very cores of my story because "they're dogmatic". In other words you say that my fanfic is bad because it has some points that I created myself.
Plus all your arguments are based on the idea of a "common lore". And that wouldn't make sense especially for a fanfic (see points 1, 2 and 3)
1) Common lore can't exist in Minecraft. Because it doesn't even have the basis for a story, writers need to think of it
2) As I said, common lore doesn't exist in Minecraft. It simply doesn't. My story is FAN FICTION, that means I write in my background for the game.
3) Again, it doesn't exist for MC, so yes every interpretation is completely separated. Which is why you shouldn't bash everything because "it can't be used as common lore".
I consider your idea of "dogmatic writing" and "common lore" as unrelated. And have no basis too.
Thank you. I appreciate when someone cricticism, but well your points don't make any sense (I just disproved them). Have a good day, and if you have more questions I'll be happy to answer.
I personally find it convenient to base a discussion on points, I hope that's not a problem.
1.) Throughout the 24 pages of this thread people have pointed out the gaps in the original story. However, some of the edited parts that followed are largely a handwave, IMHO. And I daresay that the original story hasn't really been changed in any way. Please note that the author is not obliged to change anything on demand (which is kinda obvious). The point is to debunk the reaction to criticism, which is actually fairly loose. But that, I guess, is too personal to actually discuss. So let it get out of the way.
1.a.) And with the above said, I state that I wish to follow the point of this thread in general, which is to help flesh out the original story.
2.) Please do not jump to conclusions if possible, that does not serve the reaction to criticism as well. I feel sorry for the people that got unjustifiably agressive reactions throughout this thread. What about the credit of trust? There's no point assuming everyone hates your story from the start. I do not. Not that I love it or am willing to give tons of diamonds for it :), but it is fresh at some points, which is exactly what makes it interesting for discussion. The idea I like best is the mushroom biome origins, though it raises many questions. Like, these biomes are 95% isolated on distant islands, how come cows wandered there? Likewise, It would also be hard for invaders to cross the ocean.
Also, if you take a look at my speculations (see the link above), I pay a lot of attention to pigmen and believe they are important to the world of Minecraft. It's just that I see them differently. You do not have to share this view, but I would love it if we could discuss their origins and maybe exchange some ideas.
3.) I realise you probably don't want to bother too much with discussions and arguments. It is indeed a nerdfest to actually discuss a story in Minecraft. I still wish to state my points:
Minecraft doesn't have to use comprehensive common lore both because it is a sandbox game and because there is no official story or (arguably but viably) basis for a story. On the other hand, it is not devoid of some factual information which may serve a basis for some common understanding of how the world works.
To contrast, LEGO Creator basic block kits are almost completely devoid of any basis for speculation. Compared to that, the world of Minecraft is neatly fleshed out.
If a person says, for example, that all civilization in Minecraft was destroyed 100 years ago by a huge war among humans who lived in overworld cities and castles, that will be considered out of place since there are no overworld ruins in Minecraft, despite an occasional stronghold spawning above ground. So that fact alone cuts off a large chunk of pissible reconstructions of the Minecraft history. On the other hand, zombie pigmen living in the Nether means that they actually got there somehow. The rest is up to a player to decide.
The result of logical analysis of the factual information is what I would call common lore. So it can exist as long as there are any distinguishable features in the game world. Hell, even Tetris or Pac-Man can have common lore. Pac-Man actually has some canon, doesn't it?
Now, I don't intend to ban writers from making up anything Minecraft can inspire them to make up. That is how mods come into existence. And that is why the lore in question should point out the facts, not impose limitations. You personally hate the Herobrine mythos despite the fact that it is very influential in the MC community, thus being a purist to some extent. So it's not like you want your story to be groundless, right? Though I would argue that calling Herobrine worthless crap is not unlike calling any other mythos in the history of mankind likewise. Still, mythology is important for the development of culture, even though it does not exactly correspond to facts.
To illustrate the point that every author is ultimately free to do what he wants, I myself am going to write a story that is completely ridiculous in its premises. So, please don't be offended, as I do not want to attack your freedom. It's just that this is probably one of the biggest threads discussing the MC backstory, and I don't see how the discussion can harm in this situation. I also apologize for the incorrect expression of my thoughts. As I said, my first post was a mess.
4.) To wind up, here are a few actual questions:
a.) So, how did animals or the Nether beings travelled from mushroom islands to the continent?
b.) Still, what about the creepers? I think they deserve some in-depth psychological description so we can understand them better. What did they use for building? Magic? Technology? Slaves? Or have they mutated since their golden age to lose arms?
c.) Why do zombie pigmen carry gold, which cannot be found in the Nether?
d.) How do brewing and enchanting work? Are they magic or technology? Why does brewing need blaze rods, if not just as a heating element?
e.) Why is there a mention that slimes have to do with activating the End portal when the crafting recipe only includes ender pearls and blaze powder?
Hey, don't say I don't like discussion, if you saw my posts in Off-Topic
Well, first things first. I see that you like to use two important concepts:
1) A common lore, based on facts the game gives;
2) Things that make complete sense, such as how cows are on desert islands and such.
Despite what you say, it's very, very hard to create a factual lore for Minecraft. Even though hints are left, there isn't much conclusive information. That's why I must make up some things. (nor is it something writers intend)
As for the second point, here's a small definition:
Fiction written by fans for other fans about the fandoms that they like. Usually the author takes the setting of the canon and writes a new plot. Sometimes they write crossovers, and on almost every story there are elements with little basis on canon and are created by the author to continue the plot.
Source: urbandictionary.com
In my humble opinion, things should be a fun and enjoyable read; not something probable by fact. Sometimes it makes for a better plot to left some things vague, in order for the reader to have a pleasant experience.
I hate Herobrine because it's overused, discredited, and in my opinion a very weak and lame idea. Plus it'd add nothing to my current plot. It's more of a personal preference. I'm not saying any mythos in the history of mankind are "useless crap", and I don't know where did you take that though from (or why did you choose to make that exagerated comparison), since Herobrine isn't any important culture. Even the community hates him now
----
Your questions:
a) Ghasts can fly, and transport other Nether beings.
b- First, I don't think they ever had arms
Second, they don't really need an in-depth explanation as for how they came there; take famous books for example. I was going to use LotR as an example but since I don't know if you read the books, I'll take Harry Potter. Is it ever explained where magic comes from? Centaurs, dragons, all those mythical creatures? No, yet we know the events that are important for the understanding of things, so that information is uneeded.
Third, they can climb stairs can't they build Ok seriously though, they used their feet and body. If a form of life doesn't have arms, they'll find a way to use what they have to survive.
c) It's not necessarily gold; they may use minerals from the Nether itself that are very similar to gold.
d) I have that wrote somewhere on my computer already. I've been busy in real life, I forget some things so please forgive me.
e) I didn't really notice that since it was fun-suggested. I'll be removing that part thank you.
I also appreciate how you took the time to make an elaborate post. My salutations.
Hmm... Some of this makes sense, some doesn't. Here's some feedback.
-If creepers wanted to be "dominant species", why do they commit suicide all the time? And their primitive behavior and them not having arms doesn't really suggest they're intelligent folks that are able to make stuff like dungeons. Uh, because this is a fanfic and I must sense to things? It's obvious the game doesn't suggest they're all that intelligent but two things: 1- The game doesn't have any basis for anything and 2- They are acting dumb on purpose, to hide their true intentions as I state.
-You sir, use a senseless amount of basis on pigmen. Their current stance in the game does not really suggest they were that important. Rather an extinct species with their corpses reanimated somehow. Yeah so being original isn't cool. I could very much say for other stories "you put a senseless focus on humans", but I wanted the pigmen to be different, see?Another thing: "their current stance doesn't suggest they were important" where did you get this from? I don't see any part of Minecraft that shows any story at all. So that's invalid.
-The end is, indeed, a twisted and scrambled dimension, which is why it's inhabitants are so deformed and the land is so barren. However, I don't think Endermen really are former humans; they've probably been there since time immemorial, and they come to our own dimension (the overworld) in the false hope to find some happiness. The end is not really important, just a place for daredevils to sate their adventuring need. That's your story, every minecrafter has one. I just posted mine. Plus what you said is what every other fanfic does, so again originality.
-Humans, dying out? Not anytime soon, methinks. Even if you rule respawning out as a game mechanic, humans still easily fend for themselves. How many times do you get blow up by a creeper? I know, it'll be a very slow process, but it's inevitable.
-I believe spawners to be some failed experiment; the stuff in the chests are there for testing how spawners work. When things went out of hand (the spawners spawning dangerous creatures), whoever was conducting the experiments locked it deep underground. Again, your version.
-The nether, well... It's just a damn overheated alternate dimension. Period. Where's the constructive cricticism? I can't see it!
-As for ghasts, they're just sadists, and IMO the nether equivalent of creepers. See above.
Some people don't seem to understand that constructive cricticism isn't "ARGH I HATE YOUR THOUGHS USE MINE INSTEAD", because as I said myself, everyone makes up a story for Minecraft. It's part of the game. But things like "I think x, period" and "The game doesn't suggest that" aren't constructive at all. It has no basis, no argument, no reason unless thinking your opinion is fact. And that's really bad.
I need more people like mindtruster and less people like LordSipia.
Might I make a suggestion? I saw you "adapted" the story of that one guy. Also, this is very good.
TEXTURE PACKS
Texture packs were the name given to the odd boxes appearing about the world. These packs, once picked up, would change the person's brain waves, thus making things appear as they should not. These boxes simply go away. One interesting thing, the humans can go back within their memory bank and find what they used to see things as. Texture packs are only found if the human seeks them.
SANDSTONE WELLS
Wells in the desert are very mysterious, and shrouded within mystery. It is very hard to know what their purpose was, but some think it might be from very primitive villagers. An early attempt to make a well, much like the cobblestone wells in their very own modern towns. Others, however, think it may be much more cryptic, and think, that within time, something absurd might happen that will be related to them.

Hmm, no. Check the dates of the topic. That guy made his story based on mine.

The texture pack stuff is really a handwave, but I'll consider using the wells thing, thank you.
Neat. So if the enderdragon is a mutated ghast, what's the Dragon Egg?
