Just a random little story I wrote for my English class. At 2am.
The blackness slowly fades into colors. The colors become clearer, and start forming recognizable shapes. This seems strangely familiar. I try to remember if I had been here before, but to no avail. I can’t seem to remember anything. I slowly realize that I am standing on some sort of beach. But everything looks different, in some way I can’t figure out. I walk over to the water, to splash water on my face, in hopes of clearing my foggy head. I take a step into the breaking tide, and fall straight down. I look around at the world, and try to make sense of it. I look off to the east, and see the square sun rising slowly over the horizon. It is a beautiful sight, as the sun lines up perfectly with the cube of leaves at the top of the tree in the distance.
Wait a minute… Square sun? Cubic leaves? I take a closer look at the beach around me, and realize that the entire world is made of cubes. How did I get here? I rack my brains, but to no avail. I have no recollection of anything in my past. Angry, I punched the sand. I know it should have surprised me, but it somehow seemed logical when the sand simply shrank into a smaller cube that I could pick up. I also felt much calmer, so I decided to take a look around.
I seem to be standing on some sort of sandy beach facing north. Beyond the beach to the north and west is a seemingly endless expanse of ocean, and to the south is a large mountain. I turn to the east, and see a forest. For some reason I can’t explain, the trees seem to invite me to them. So, I head off into the woods, and do the only thing I know how. I punch. Every time I punch a tree, I feel my worries just melting away. My molten worries also seem to make logs fall from the tree somehow. But who am I to complain? I just pick them up and put them in my pocket.
After a few hours of hypnotic tree punching, I emerge relaxed from the forest. I sit down and lean against a tree. I start contemplating this strange cubic world, when suddenly I hear a “Bwak!” I jump to me feet, and see that there is a chicken standing immediately in front of me. I’m not alone! If there are chickens here, who knows what else there might be? I try to walk towards the animal, but I trip over a log. I must have dropped it when the chicken scared me, and it grew back to normal size. Hmmm, I should see if I can do anything with that later. But for now, I’ll follow the chicken.
We wander aimlessly for a while, and I’m constantly on the lookout for anyone else. I find more chickens, as well as sheep, cows, and pigs. There must be a farm of some sort around here. Now it’s getting dark, so the animals should all be headed home. But where did my chicken go? Oh wait, he must have gone around the side of the mountain over there.
I turn the corner, and find myself in a vast plain. Off in the distance, I see a silhouette of something that reminds me of myself. Eager with anticipation, I run towards it. As I get near, it looks at me and moans. It must be trying to say something! As we get close, he lurches out at me, and – ow! – hits me in the face with a punch. In pain and anger, I strike back, a relentless storm of fist until he falls to the ground. Almost immediately, I hear a loud TWANG! There’s something else out here! I look around frantically, and see a tall shadow walking toward me. TWANG! An arrow flies straight at me. Fearing that I won’t be able to punch my way out of this fight, I run away. Off in the distance, I see some strange structure, unlike anything I have seen before. But there are more monsters, pouring out of it! Surrounded in the open plain, I try to think of something, anything I could do to survive. Then I remember. I throw the logs I had collected on the ground in front of me, and form a ring around myself. I build a second layer, and hastily build a roof. It is pitch black in my little shack, but I can hear the monsters roaming outside. I fear leaving again.
It seems like days pass before I finally stop hearing their footsteps. I carefully punch a hole in my small shelter, and slowly venture out. The path appears to be clear, so I carefully inch my way to the structure I saw last night. I nearly jump out of my skin when I hear a loud “baa,” and sprint all the way to the structure before I realize that it’s only a sheep. I circle the building, which it must be, as it is not at all natural, and find a door in the far side.
I open the door, and creep my way inside. There are stairs leading downward, and a light at the bottom. Irresistibly drawn onward, I make my way down. I enter a large room, and hear quite hissing sound. I turn around to find the source, and there is a large, green thing. I feel myself being propelled backwards, and hitting the wall with a loud thud.
The blackness slowly fades into colors. The colors become clearer, and start forming recognizable shapes. This seems strangely familiar. I try to remember if I had been here before, but to no avail. I can’t seem to remember anything.
