Hello ladies and gents,
Let me start off by clarifying I'm not looking for money, and I suck terribly at using paragraphs, so bear with me below..
I am just looking for some help starting my server up. This would normally be a looking for staff post but to be honest I am seeking a bit more involvement than that. Most looking for staff threads attract people wanting some sort of power for whatever reason, but here I am looking for people interested in being the driving force behind what could be a small but vibrant community of quality players. I am a seasoned Linux system administrator by day, and an avid minecrafter by night, but the truth is I do not have as much time to spend as I would like to administer such an endeavor due to my work schedule. Working Tues-Sat 2-11pm leaves a big gap in "staff" coverage during gaming primetime that I hope to fill up with quality people that will help me not only bring new people in every day, but also have fun themselves by being an active member of the server. I am a RedHat Certified Engineer who works with hosting for a living and have all the tools and resources at my disposal to make this a worthwhile effort for us, all I need are some volunteers excited by the thought of being able to mold their own playing environment into the kind everyone looks for, the kind where everyone knows each other, and you can drop in for a few minutes even just to have a quick laugh or maybe share a story with the people online. The game itself is fun, yes, but we all know its all about the interaction, and only quality people attract more quality people that make for quality interaction. If I could sum up what I want to achieve here in 3 words, it would most certainly be quality over quantity.
Wall of text aside, let me give you some straight facts about this whole thing to see if the server itself fits your gamestyle, and if you are okay with the terms of being a staff volunteer:
You will not have infinite power. This "mod" position is just that, a moderator, not an omnipotent being. You will have just enough tools to enforce the rules of the server, but apart from that you will be just a regular player. Even I the owner play legitimately, as like I've said before I care about the interaction, not infinite diamonds.
You want to help bring more people in. This means helping us with the whitelisting process and helping us spread the word about what could become the best little oldschoolish server out there.
This server will be minimalistic plugin-wise. I do not care for mojangs update process and do not wish to burn out keeping up with them. What little time I have left I want to be able to play the game the way it was meant to be played. Mechanics-wise all we have is /spawn and /home and perhaps self-serve land protection to prevent grief. I will not take suggestions for new plugins, as it aims to be as close to vanilla as possible.
Worthy mods will be picked to become full-fledged admins when I think they are ready, not a day before, so please do not ask. Previous Linux experience will be a plus.
You are an adult, or at the very least sound like one on teamspeak. I would like to speak with you on teamspeak at some point so please be able and willing to hop on. It is also strongly encouraged to hang out on teamspeak whenever playing. This will foster a much stronger community.
You do not cheat, hack or utilize any tools that could disrupt or make gameplay unfair for others.
If you are okay with the terms above, I would ask you to please fill out the following information to the best of your ability, and put at least as much effort as I have put into typing up this proposition for you. I know its a hassle but you dont have to do it, and if you do, I sincerely appreciate your time and interest. I will get back to each respondent as soon as possible.
I know this whole idea is not the most original with the hundreds of servers out there, but proper execution is rare and far apart. What do you think about it?
This position would mean more work when you could just be playing and having fun, so why would you accept this offer? Is it for power, for recognition, or what? Please be honest, there is no wrong answer as long as you enforce rules appropriately.
Just to know a little about your playing style, what do you like doing in the game itself? Do you like building, playing with redstone, exploring caves, messing around with others, or what?
Perhaps share a little about yourself in real life, like your age, where you live, what you do for a living or what your hobbies are (besides minecraft of course ). You might just turn out to be a systems engineer and would like to fiddle with the server like me!
Anything else you might feel worth mentioning that isnt covered by the questions above. I dont know how many replies I will get to this, if any, and it may come down to this question to set you apart. I can only have so many mods!

Yes, finally! I've been looking for a server like this for months! And sure, there is a lot of Vanilla servers out there, however I haven't stumbled into one this promising. I enjoy Minecraft the oldschool style, but as you so well describe in your "small" ad above, it's all about the people. In general I can't do anything than clap in my hands when I read the first part of the text. I agree in so many points. And this is not to be some kind of ass-licking-douchebag...
The above should give you atleast a hint of an answer to the first question.
So why do I want to work, and not just play along? I'd love to play along of course, and no matter how this application goes, I would like to be whitelisted for the server. However, since I'm this thrilled about the server, I would love to help it grow. Player-wise, but most of all, quality-wise. For once again I agree on your opinion. Quality beats quantity.
My playing style... my playing style... Well I'm quite fond of building, however it bores me to build in creative. The fact that you've jumped around on a tower roof, maybe you'd fall down once in a while, die, just to do it again afterwards. Whan THAT tower is finished, it's far more an accomplishment than building it while flying around in the air. Also I like the fact that I've gathered the ressources myself. I would say I'm an okay builder after my long years of minecraft.
So who am I? My name is Rasmus, I live in Denmark and I'm 20 years old. That's the standards. So what do I do? At the moment I'm studying at the university. I'm currently studying a line called "Arabic language and communication", and I'm later on going to take a master in journalism. So technical you can't really call me. A people person on the other hand? Hell yeah.
Just to have it all cleared out, my activity can vary because of my studies. In exam periods I might not be on that much. A thing you could expect for most players really, but I just wanted to put it out there.
This will be the first time I try to be a "moderator" on a server, if you should chose me, so I'm not experienced with it. Been having some small builder ranks on other servers before, and been offered moderator positions, however I've always said no. At that point I'd rather just play the game, build some buildings and so on. Now I'm also looking for a way to challenge myself in a new way, and that is also a reason for why I'm applying. Also, I find honesty is an important part for, yeah, everything. So now you know I have no experience, but I'm ready to jump in, head first.

I have been on servers where they would pick friends over others and it would fall apart because they kept giving themselves stuff and people would leave. I am applying because I can be fair about anything as I rationalize anything.
I like to build things like old ships. I do mess with redstone a little and set up some things like at one time I have set 25 TNT to go off on a hill to flatten it. I also like the exploring even though I get lost and having fun with others.
I was in the military for 10 years before my body could no longer support that kind of work. Now I tend to sit around playing games and puzzles. Some hobbies of mine are Physics cause it intrests me, puzzles, video games, and reading.
I did run a couple private servers for my friends and am familar with some of the background programing that goes to it.
