If you guys do decide to Re-continue the Shadow Realm, you could make it so that when someone is banished, they are sent to the nether or the end and the only way to get out is to battle some boss. Here's the basic idea:
1) You have one re-occurring NPC that duels someone every so often (ie. 1 in every 256 times or whatever). When you lose to said NPC, you get transported to the Shadow Realm (The nether or The End. You can make it whatever you want. Just make sure we aren't able to kill ourselves and able to spawn in overworld).
2) If you DO get stuck in the Shadow Realm, there is one NPC there that acts as the only way to get out of the shadow realm.
-Neat feature to add into the shadow realm is the ability to duel other duelists there (just a thought).
Hope you guys consider this, probably not right now, but sometime down the road for an add-on/update for the server or whatever
Lots to respond to so hopefully I get it all. Just let me know if I miss anything. Expect pictures this weekend of the updated features concerning dueling.
What's up with the shadow realm? I thought this would be the most appropriate one to tackle first since it's a really neat idea. The first thing you have to remember is that the idea of shadow duels revolves around the loser having their soul removed and them basically dying. I don't know what was the last game you played where death was permanent but you probably didn't enjoy it (or have never played a game like that). Death is one of the hardest things for game designers to figure out and soul banishment is on a whole other level ;). Based off what you have all just said about it and my initial thoughts IF I were to implement the shadow realm, you would be sent to an alternate dimension (either nether or end since I'm not mucking around with dimensions unless necessary) where you would have to fight your way out through several levels of duelists. At the end, based on how well you did there would most likely be a prize. Now this is a big if, especially for early on in the servers life, since then we have to figure out who can banish, how to limit that power, preventing noob slaying, etc...
As for duel disks and bikes the answer is currently no. Duel disks may be implemented at a later time but the goal is to have duel tables so easily accessible that the need for them is pretty small. Bikes are a definite no due to the fact that 5Ds and later rules would be necessary afterwards and I just don't trust myself to get it all right, nor do I have the interest in those series. Maybe down the line I will allow people to code in more cards and rules but that would be MUCH MUCH later down the line.
I thank everyone for the wishes of good luck and the praise as it means a lot. I will continue to work on this server so we can release it. I do believe though that I should address a few things. First is that this server has been in development for WAY longer than necessary. 2.5 years I believe to be exact. Something along these lines should realistically take 3 months to finish and we are at the halfway point in that time span since this projects revival. So when looking at how long this has been in production keep that in mind. Now it's not me saying it's a small feat, I have been going at a bit faster than a relaxed pace to get this done but that's because we've waited long enough, I just want it known that this can be done by almost anyone.
--------------------Begin Programming Rant (I am not proofreading this part at all), Feel free to skip if you are not interested------------------------
Two, and this is a big one, is my skill level. I am no master programmer. I do like to think I am good but that has mostly come from experience as most programmers only become better with age and experience. If you are actually curious about learning to program try to think about how you would tackle the problem of programming in 2000+ cards. If you have no experience it probably seems quite mind boggling. If you look back to around the 50's you'll see I went through quite a few different ideas in my early phases. In the end there is no way to teach experience, you must actually try things. So once you've come up with a way to code these cards look at the pros and cons of them and try to gain a bit of experience. If you already know how to program try making a few models to see it all in action. If you don't know how to program I recommend thenewboston which is where I taught myself. I wouldn't say they are the best tutorials, but they are online, free, and make sense to me. If you feel they don't help you as much and you are interested in learning Java I have a set of 15 hand written tutorials I can give you but they stop there due to the fact that I can't teach everything. The internet can though. If you are serious about programming go to school for it. Self taught programmers (I am one) can be some of the best programmers but more often than not they become either some of the worst, some of the ones who quit, or some of the ones who think they are the best. Please never become the last and if you become the second then that is unfortunate but maybe you will come back to it. In case you feel back about quitting, I quit programming twice before seriously attempting it and now I have been programming for 3-4 years. Both times I quit I attempted to learn too much at too young of an age essentially biting off more than I can chew which is why I suggest you go to school where they will make sure you learn at a good pace. And even if you do end up teaching yourself, classes will give you much needed experience as well as technical terms in order to discuss with fellow programmers. If you have any further questions about programming feel free to PM me where I will happily answer any questions you may have. I believe programming is one of the best things to happen to me and I love to see people feeling the same way as I do about it so don't be shy.
I believe I hit most of the points that were in need of answering. The god cards will be handed out by either admins or with an ultra rare chance in packs and this will be decided at a later point. As for tournaments, they will be hosted by the admins whenever they feel the time is right. We may all come together and decide upon once a month, once a week, one bi-weekly. Or maybe we will choose only those days that are odd multiples of 3, who knows! There will eventually be user hosted tournaments though that will hopefully fill the gaps between the larger admin run tournaments.
Sadly Callan (love the name reference btw) the Earthbound immortals will not be added to the game. They are from the 5D's era and thus are not included in the set we will be using. Sorry 'bout that, but restrictions are restrictions.
Chug, keep up the good work! I'm currently taking a programming class in school, and I love it so far! Sadly, I'm nowhere near advanced enough to help you out, but I can definitely appreciate the amount of work going into this. Keep it up
Hey guys, me again, just wondering if the Earthbound Immortal cards have been added? That's the deck I'm rockin' IRL at the moment, so having it in game would be awesome!
No currently chugwig is only working with cards from cards before 5ds and since the immortals are 5ds cards it means they will not be in the game apon release they may be added later but you will have to wait.
So, any cards from GX and Yu-Gi-Oh! will be included? Aight, cool cool. But wait, how will we obtain the cards when we first enter the server (i.e. How do we get our very first deck?)
That's a really good idea SG. I have still not fully figured out how I am going to go about adding new packs but new cards will probably be tested by just throwing them out into the world or with a special tournament. As for what you do when you first join the server, there will be packs to choose from and you will pick 5 packs (45 cards). From there you will make your initial deck and go out into the world to duel!
The server will not be cracked. While I understand that there is a good portion of players that play cracked, it leaves many security holes. Apart from that it also means you are not supporting Minecraft and while I respect your personal decision, I understand the work that goes into this kind of thing and so the server is only meant for those who have supported Minecraft financially.
Hey Chug, how are you gonna keep up with the ban list? Do you have a way to limit certain cards so that only one copy of that particular card (i.e. foolish burial) can only be in your main deck/side deck/extra deck at any given time
Every time you finish editing your deck it will be rated either 0, 1, 2, or 3 stars. 0 means it's not a proper deck, 1 means it is at least a proper deck although it could have 40 blue eyes. 2 stars means it follows Traditional Format, and 3 stars means it follows advanced format. Two unmatched decks cannot duel each other and 0 decks cannot duel at all. But you could duel two 1 star decks against each other. I implemented this some time ago, (not the full ban lists yet but at least the rating) and must have forgotten to post a picture. I will include it in the next set of pictures going up tomorrow.
Hello Jesse, the server's expected release date is mid to late January currently. For anyone who has been watching this post for some time you would know that the alpha for this server was supposed to begin this week. Unfortunately dueling has been taking longer than expected and so the alpha date will have to be pushed back. The alpha data is TBD as after this week finals will be beginning for me, meaning that the time I'll have to watch over the alpha will be limited. The lastest alpha will be starting is the 14th so you have that as a hard date. If I find my finals don't have me too busy the alpha could start sooner. If it does start sooner then all is going really well and we'll have time for a beta run. If it starts on the 14th I'll take the time between finals to search for bugs so that alpha can go smoothly and we can go straight into release. The actual dates for everything are still floating around but I can tell you that the latest alpha will start is the 14th and the latest the server could release is Feb 1st. The earliest alpha could start is next week (it's more likely it would start the week after next so I have time to calmly deal with applications) and the earliest the server could release is Jan 1st (ITS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!).
If you have any questions feel free to ask them and I will be editing photos onto this post in about an hour or two so look forward to those!
Here's the pictures of what should be the final GUI design for dueling. There will be buttons on the side depending on what card is currently selected and now I will be working on getting the cards to be based off the involved duelists.
Wow guys I apologize for the image quality last night! I assumed that the forum's image uploading quality would be just as good as tinypic's but oh well. Here is a new, much larger upload.

Man, the image is so small, I can't see the secret
can you show us a picture of the map around us so if the server is in a big city can you show us a picture of that
