Once upon a time there were servers that existed during Minecraft's beta that would break the spirits of every mortal soul that dared to test their mettle against the unforgiving, harsh wastelands that awaited them.
I've tried many times to perfect that craft, to embody that spark of fun, and the thrill of the fight. But the answer was not in promotion of senseless griefing, nor was it in merciless deathbans.
Make no mistake, your time here will not be pleasant, but that does not mean you will not enjoy it.
What is desert survival?
Desert survival is a custom gamemode for Minecraft that became popular with the Primordial Desert Map Generator in 2012. The idea was simple: the desert is big, and oasis' are rare.
The goal is to find an oasis ASAP for a supply of wood to make tools and progress.
Why LABYRINTHIA?
One downside to the Primordial Map Generator was that players would sometimes get bored of the same generated pattern of sand dunes over and over again. It was easy to get lost, and easy to give up as oasis' were few and far between. LABYRINTHIA solves this problem with a hand painted map that is created from scratch, throwing out the same-ness of a generated world for a hand crafted experience that encourages players to explore the world and discover the landmarks, dungeons, boss battles and lore for themselves. While oasis' are still present, players are given a single sapling and piece of dirt when they begin, and are encouraged to make that last as far as it can go. (You'd be surprised!)
Traditional desert survival had most of the surface and underground areas full of mossy cobblestone. This is to prevent players from having an abundance of tools, as mossy cobblestone cannot be used to create weapons and tools as stone can. LABYRINTHIA is similar in that most of the world is made up of andesite, diorite and granite, which cannot be used to make tools. However, stone has a very small chance of spawning everywhere in the map, and has a higher % chance of showing up in mesas and mountainous areas. It can be very profitable to aim to make a base in the mountains, but beware, as more dangerous monsters will spawn here.
In addition to a custom drop rate applied to most blocks that scales with the tool used, monsters are now far more aggressive, and will usually outrun the player, breaking any blocks in the way to get to the player. It's very important that you experiment with different kinds of blocks to see which ones are more durable, and to build your base out of the most durable materials that you can!
Perhaps the most ambitious and inspired part of LABYRINTHIA is the map inspired by Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that encourages and rewards players for their exploration with a healthy balance of "adventure dungeons" throughout. Completing these dungeons will require the player to overcome tests of platforming skill, combat and their abilities to solve puzzles, along with unique boss battles powered by Denizen, and reward the player with much needed survival items such as wood, coal, stone, and food.
What we need
- Moderators (You must be able to identify X-Ray patterns and ban effectively)
- Builders
- Dungeon Designers
Please get in touch if this server sounds like something you'd like to be a part of!
If you have experience with Denizen scripting let me know if you'd like to collab on creating some epic boss battles too.
EDIT: Hey guys, I really need some help building spawn. If you have some experience building, please consider assisting me in the creation of an appropriate spawn area. Thank you!
