The staff is friendly. The community is nice. The challenges and island level are good because it gives you something to work for. The in game currency isn't that hard to earn. There's parkour, dungeons, shops, and casino if you don't feel like building.
my suggestion would be maybe have a directory for shops. they're sorted by alphabetical order so you don't know who is selling what kind of items. Some shops are also empty because they haven't set them up yet.
1 thing i like about the server: I like that there are people on no matter when u get on, and there is almost never a staff member NOT on.
1 thing i would like to see added/changed/removed: I would like their to be some basic gear given in the chest when u first start a SkyBlock. It took me forever till i got s sword and i could kill the mobs in the dungeons.
1 thing you like about the server: I love the dungeons here and all of the plug-ins.
1 thing you would like to see added, changed, or removed from the server: I would like it to be a little less laggy, I would also make it so you could get money easier. What would be nice is to make it so you can get dirt a bit easier, like a rare drop. You also need more dungeons.
Minecraft Name:davicon1000 1 thing you like about the server:I like the fact that there are dungeons to spend time on. 1 thing you would like to see added, changed, or removed from the server:I would like death to be afk a whole lot less.
**When you ask for my opinion, I try to be honest, yet constructive. Nothing is meant to be offensive or slanderous. I merely wish to help which I'm assuming is the point of this thread.**
One thing I like about the server: (You asked for 1 thing, hopefully multiple is fine, too.):
Dedicated server (specialize in one or few things rather than jack-of-all-trades, master of none.)
A unique challenge beyond standard Minecraft with varied activities and options. (Scarlet Monastery! :D)
Calm and responsive staff.
Working mail system.
Seemingly stable staff and server with planned maintenance.
A website with decently clear FAQs and Information.
One thing I would like to see added, changed or removed from the server:
Shops: I love having player shops and I think custom shops are cute. However, I wish that shops were more efficient to use. I would prefer a non-chat based buyout/auction system and/or a single world warp with each person's custom shop. Say each gets a plot in a world separated from Skyblock in which they can build their shop (in creative or restricted). The warping over and over and searching feels tedious and clunky. I feel it distracts from the game play rather than enhancing it. I think this problem has also added to some of the less-than-friendly responses I've gotten from other players. Though I do try to remind myself that few other players are adults. Having separate shops may also make the two rooms in /pshop make more sense! Players could create "Viewing bubbles" for their guests at their home warps if they wish to keep them from wandering. (Edit to mention:) Additionally, being able to search more shops means the wealth is spread more evenly rather than just to one person. I notice I get some (often brusque) replies of "./is warp FaliniFyreheart!" every time I request a sale or see if anyone wants to do a 1v1 trade/sale. Falini, you're cool! But perhaps other players should make money too =P
Plugins: Perhaps I missed it, but one thing I find lacking in most servers is a plugin list or plugin explanations on the websites. A concise list of plugins installed would allow me to search for them and learn more about each one and how to use each one since every server is different. If you change options manually, I'd love to know! Just like any other game, it's good to have a kind of "Manual" and allows me to be a better (and less obtrusive) player.
Secrets! OK I love them. They're cute -- BUT (of course), perhaps forcing them to be instanced would help people discover them individually. I just think it's a bit awkward to try to force (mostly children) to play a multiplayer individually and not talk about the awesome fun they've found. Maybe this is beyond your capabilities, and that's OK, but it is my .02.
Parkour: Again, it's a great idea! Consider putting it in a separate world? You can control inventories and prevent "cheating" based on your set rules rather than "the honor system." We all know that is like running a server with no grief prevention. Give them a set inventory while there, and remove it when they leave. You could do this for each parkour challenge too.
Dungeons: More, please!
Thank you for listening (reading) my opinions. If you would like any help with server set up you can always ask! Chai programs for a living and is a great source of information. He taught me well during my comp science courses years ago! Here's to hoping Mojang writes an API and solves the drama XX
The server provides a unique challenge compared to standard minecraft.
The experience is focused around one part of the game as opposed to trying to do everything at once (And all of them badly).
Great interface for the island (/is and /dod) making it easy to know all the things you can do with them. I wish more plugins had UIs built like this.
Dungeons and Parkour are very nice extras.
Things I would change
Stores are currently inefficient and will not scale well with greater player numbers. Currently, it takes a significant amount of time to go through each store and check the prices while looking for the item you want. Inefficient builders as well as empty or non-existant store lists only exacerbates the problem. As more players add shops, go on hiatus, quit playing or do not maintain the shops, it will just get worse. A couple of suggestions:
A sale system with buy-outs alleviates issues by having fees which pull money out of the market as well as making items searchable. The ability to search for items allows for direct competition between sellers.
A more difficult, but more long-term solution, would be to have a system where the server sets prices on items based on their rarity; adjusting prices low for things that are easy to obtain (everything that is farm-able) and raising the sale price on items which are out of stock. This would dissuade easily farming items while pushing people to try and collect the rare items. A solid economy resolution is difficult, unfortunately, because of the ease at which players obtain items through farming and AFK fully-automated fishing and similar botting or farming strategies, but solutions to drastically alleviate the issue are available.
I would love to see the addition of player and Mojang-created heads available to buy through the server for decoration purposes.
While we would love to see more of the things you have suggested, there are currently no plugins available to add the level of support and limitations you have suggested. Because of this we have been forced to be creative in our solutions to the problems with the economy. We have already tried to check on ways that would allow us to set minimum prices and values for items to help stabilize the economy but currently there isn't a way to do so with the current shop plugins. In order to take control of the server economy completely, we would have to remove player shops altogether and just have a server control shop which I believe would create problems. Players would complain if they couldn't sell everything in the game back to the server for money but most things can be easily mass farmed which lowers their value to basically 0. This would create a situation where the economy would be even more stale. At least with the current method, money travels between players based on their needs thanks to player shops. These economic issues can be found on almost any server. And by any server, I don't mean just minecraft but any type of online multiplayer game with an economy where players can farm items to resell. Give a game long enough and you can see these same trends develop.
