True, it's pretty bad business. I may even stop saying "sorry" when dealing with them!
If I switch hosts, I will use the current donations from those who were able to help with initial and ongoing costs. I am looking at one in LA with the same specs, but 2/3 the price. There is a transfer limit of 16Tb/mth that the current one doesn't have but somehow I don't think we'd breach that...
I know I'm probably not one to talk, since I only found this server after it went down, but that sounds like a really good deal, especially if they know how to treat a customer.
I totally agree. I'm not really that attached to my progress, even if I have thrown in 30+ hours. I vote reset if it gets rid of this rudeness, as well as the terrible crashes.
Yea. if a wipe has to happen, let's not build in the spawn chunks at all.
Also, Art and StormKitten, you guys mind my wife and I teaming up with or at least building by you guys on your this time? You had some awesome stuff done, and we'd love to have our tower near your city. (this is bhanna84, btw).
Personally, I have no problem with a map wipe, mostly because of the issues with my base. But if we are to have a new map, I implore you to add Biomes O' Plenty, exploring the overworld without additional biomes is, quite frankly, really, really boring and I have found that mod really spices up the entire experience, adds a bunch of new decorative blocks which I find nice, and keeps me interested in exploring.
I would also like to team up with Art and his crew, it got a little lonesome all by myself.
I agree with the map wipe. The Guild was planning a large rebuild anyway, might as well have some more room to do so. Though, I would like some supplies to jumpstart it, like a bunch of wood and stone, or a few basic mod items.
Well time, if living with art doesnt pan out, you could always live with me ,(i say this at the risk of a bad joke) i guess that would be the life and times of Life and Time though so.... might not be the best idea
I am all for adding a biome-altering mod! Having played with Biomes o' Plenty and Extra BiomesXL beforehand, I greatly prefer Highlands. The signature biome (Highlands) has some difficulty with animals dying to thorn shrubs (it's not too common, but a threat), but the general feel seems much more smooth.
EDIT: Although, Highlands uses it's own world-type for generation, so I dunno how well it plays with magical forests & witchwood forests & such.
For actual exploration, I enjoy using Ruins to add dilapidated houses as interesting landmarks. (Prefer not to add structures that are too rich in materials; even just a single diamond block is too much to me.)
Oh, and please, please update CodeChickenCore & related mods to the latest versions so I can use NEI. (:
This is a really big post but please take the time to read it.
Well if we do decide to go with a wipe again will that also include character data again (most likely) or is that safe this time?
More importantly...
A: If we wipe i'm really gonna miss my awesome tower ALOT.
B: This was kinda lingering on the side of everyones thought process so if we do wipe then i request that this time NOBODY strays really far away from spawn. By that i mean this:
This time round we had d3 build a bunch of shops and what not at spawn, I built my tower there, and Platoe kinda sorta made a guild building, but overall that was it, some nice looking buildings; EMPTY buildings. Sure the shops were used but aside from myself and 3 to 5 others Nobody lived there so it was a barren ghost town.
SO what I am suggesting is that this time take the idea of a council, guild or something exactly similar and EVERYBODY works on it, this means walls, pathways, facilities and whatnot. This way we can have the newbies be like travelers from a distant land entering into a really big city full of magic and technology.
Of course plots can be allocated to people (thats a given).
Now some people may say: "But Onoi I want to live by myself out in the wilderness or maybe be just me and a friend".
To that I say: You can still do that but I guarantee that eventually you WILL come and want to live in the place we all build, so why not save yourself from going through the hassle of moving etc and just start and end in the city.
Some other people might say: "But I am worried about my stuff being stolen in such a large place"
When playing the second time round I have never seen or heard of things being stolen, know why? Coz Mith made systems to prevent that and these systems work beautifully.
And still others might say: "Onoi if I want to build building a large house what do I do when i might over build into someone elses area?"
OK, thats a good question, Answer:
The city will not be small. The size of spawn this time in comparison would be half a quarter, or maybe even less. At the beginning it will mostly consist of a few smaller houses here and there because its a new map so we are all starting out but eventually we shall have lots of cobble and shall build a large wall to signify the border of the city. Even after the wall i may still just be some small and medium sized houses here and there but eventually people will start to move to different places withing that wall. Of course resources and how often they are discovered will be a hinderance so thats why we have places like the moomoofarm, where we can go and mine the out of it and nobody will care coz its moomoo. For things like wood, its called farming people, I am sure we will have lots of room for everything we will ever need, (Also with moomoofarm all we need is 2 books, 2 gateways a light nexus some redstone and 2 dynamism tablets, this is all that is needed to make a universal gateway into moomoo so that nobody will need to carry around an evil looking book when they want to go mine).
Sure it will take time and effort to truly make it large and whatnot, but hey thats where the fun is. This is an ambitious task and I certainly feel that if we do go all out and make this idea a reality then when it actually is something that can be called a magic city then not just me but EVERYONE will feel like they achieved something instead of just logging into the server, getting a bunch of spells and power, then not playing anymore because they don't have anything left to do. To that end I suggest we have someone architecturally gifted take some time to design a city layout that we can adhere to when building complete with farm locations, building plot locations and residential area locations, (i'm an industrial designer so building cities are not really my thing).
I dearly hope you ALL take the time to think about how AWESOME this would be.

As one of the newbies, this sounds great. I know I'm pretty clueless when it comes to at least two of the bigger mods on this server (witchery and Blood Magic) and it sounds like it would be really helpful to have a central city wherein I might be able to ask for help if I don't know how to make something work.
This is a really big post but please take the time to read it.

Alright so if this is the goal, we will need a few more rules. Like don't go ballistic with particle emitters.
The plots will have to be sized either so that they might be expandable or so that they cover the space needed for the player to fit everything they need, or they can be sized however and we just have centralized things like infusion altars and such.
My thought is that the later option will end up being less fun for the newer players who would want to design, experiment and build, so it will most likely be the 2nd option.
Plot areas and a layout would most likely have to be designated on the start of a new world, now there are also a couple options as far as plots go, smaller starter plots could be free, medium sized could be earn-able with a trade of items in game, and large could be linked with donation or something to that effect. Or they could all be earned in-game in some form, could also leave options for guild sized plots. That is just a few methods of application.
There is also the matter of town sections, should markets be separate from player houses etc. Also would a building style need to be instituted and so on.
Lots to think about following this option really, I would mostly just be happy with a few more decorative mod additions so that there would be fancy materials to build the town walls/hall/central castle out of in large supply. (Chisel)
Perhaps even a few non player owned structures could be commissioned out. Some jobs may be introduced in this manner.

I am one of those people and to this I say.... you are wrong. I don't live in town irl... BY CHOICE... I don't want to live in town in Minecraftia, again... by choice. It doesn't matter to me in the slightest how epically wonderful spawn may or may not be. I don't want to live there, or anywhere nearby. I have no issue with it being a community project, but being forced to settle there is a non-starter. Anything beyond a mall/bazaar/shopping center/flea market complex and a visitor's center is overkill in my opinion.

First off, welcome to the server... when it actually comes back up lol. Second, it's a great group in my experience and pretty much everybody is more than willing to help out or answer any questions. Have no fear on that subject.

We are not gonna force people to stay within the city. It's just an option stay if you choose.
This is provided a map reset of course. Personally I would like to make living outside of the city far more challenging a true wilderness if you will, been trying to find mods to do this.
ther is one probelm i see that would come of a large city being made at spawn, a problem that was present on the current map. Lag. the lag at spawn on the current map was terrifying and you could hardly do anything at spawn. if you want to increase the size of things at spawn, i can only imagine even more lag happening. but, thats just my opinion.

Yeah, I've had trouble with them, before. I wonder if there is a way to limit the number allowed per chunk, that could help control FPS lag.
