I really enjoy the server I play on, it's really fun, but I noticed not a lot of players play on it (tends to be a max. of 7 online at once) I also recently donated to get more players on it, but not much help. Can you tell me anyway to get more players on it? The i.p. is pigslicer.beastnode.net if you want to play on it, or tell me anything thats wrong with it. The server is really fun, and the staff gets on regularly and is interactive and mindful/helpful towards problems. Please check it out and post below to to help it out.
An excellent way to get more players, is to host a server website that links to a voting page specifically for your server. This would get your server additional attention as day after day it received more votes.
One way to secure votes would be to offer an in game reward, such as exp, or diamonds. This also has the benefit of being completely independent of the game, so lag is a non-issue.
If you don't have a website already set up, enjin.com is one of the better website builders for just that purpose.
Of course, there is also the youtube option, but unless you plan on using animations, money, and quite a bit of collaborating its not an efficient use of your time. Also, unless you're running a quad core, and a respectable graphics card with a rather expensive recording program its simply not going to help.
Also, it might help to tell us what kind of server this is (vanilla, svanilla, FTB, Tekkit, Hungergames, Pvp, Faction, Creative, etc.). Describing what plugins and rules the server uses or employs is another way to gather more attention from some of the more serious players.
Balance is the key. You need some time away and we understand that. But once that's done? We'll meet you on any server (yes, even factions) with a sword in one hand, and a pickaxe in the other.

Yes, for starters, It's a faction raid server, and has an enjin, http://pigslicer.enjin.com and a website, but is being replaced witht the enjin one. The server has 7 voting websites, and rewards you with $400 ingame cash, per vote. The staff is fair, having a completely unbiased opinion. The rules are simple, no pvp logging, hacking, and there is a Mob arena. It is a really fun server, and the people that currently play on it enjoy it very much. There is also a drop party one a weak on saturday, in which half of it you go around searching throught spawn, and the other half you pvp for it.
Now I'M becoming interested. Do you allow griefing? And is the land protection permissions enabled? Because if you say yes to griefing, but also say yes to land protection, I'm going to lose interest. In fact, most hardcore pvp raiders will as well.
I hate faction plugins because of how resource intensive they are. Plus land protection just destroys the pvp experience. I promote xTeams for those 2 reasons.
As for staff, how many staff members are there? How many of them have admin or Mod? What powers do each rank of staff have? Players want to know how much staff can help them just my seeing their rank.
I read through what little you had set up, and I have to say it isn't terrible. You need to invest alot of work but it isn't looking bad at all.

Dont listen to this bozo he knows nothing about running a popular server. First off you are running a pvp server so people come and go in waves its always been like that. If you dont add the current and newest stuff every week pvpers and raiders will leave for the next newest server. Thats the pit fall of that server type. You can offer rewards and such but like i said if a new server with a new plugin pops up gues what they are gone. look into plugins like dwarf vs zombie or one off the mainy team pvp plugins like it. Just having a factions and helpful mods is used by every pvp server so its not a selling point.

While I respectfully disagree with his assessment of what I've had to say, he does have a point about losing players. This is why voting is so very important. If a player votes 5+ times, that's 5 or more potential players. Even if none of those potentials join, you've already benefitted for that day from only that one user voting.
Most older pvp players find a server, and STICK with it. Without some major problem or downtime they aren't going anywhere. Problem is, those players are 19+ and most people joining MC servers are 11-16. THOSE are your start-up players who demand constant change to keep them coming back.

Yes, Griefing is allowed, and there is protected land, but if you are in a base, then chests are free to open, and you could buy creeper eggs at shop. A way to get through the base is blasting an obsidian base 3 times. And you can't get bedrock. And I agree with the waves of players, but the server was up for quite a bit, and some players stayed whiles others left. But it's not nearly as popular as we would like it to be, for the drama and awesome raids. Some people on the server don't claim there land, they leave it unclaimed to keep it hidden, so all you have to do is look for name tags, or gain there trust to get in their base, enemy them then kill them. It's quite fun. There are 3 members of staff, two owners and a head admin. They regulate and check on people to prevent hacks and abusive glitching, so they can't play on the server with other people, or they could get accused of spawning stuff in. It's fun, since the staff make great mini-game pvp objective creations with rewards, in a war zone so you don't lose faction power.

Ah, the old "If staff kills me, they must be cheating" argument. How I hate that argument...
I still dislike faction servers... I'm hoping to help you guys out but I don't expect to join anytime soon.
