Hello, I do not believe that the entire world should be destroyed in order to recreate a 1.7 version map due to the fact that too much work has been put into the current world. I have put a great deal of effort into constructing many buildings in both Haven and Fortuna, and I would be distraught should they be forever deleted. I think that the new additions to Minecraft in 1.7 will be beneficial, but the world should not be destroyed. -Mike020599

Forever deleted?! I would be distraught if that happened too! No, no, I have the map backed up on my computer. I back it up every few days. I'd put the map up for download here if we were to switch to a new map. I'd probably put Rev 5 and Rev 6 up too. Revs 1-4 are lost to the ages. Although we plan to evenually (although not immediately) switch to a new map, the old one would not be deleted. I don't know why a server owner would ever permanently delete their maps.
On the topic of starting a new rev, I think we probably should. I was hesitant at first, mainly because Rev 7 hasn't been going for very long, and we are nowhere close to as many towns as we had in Rev 6. I'm afraid that because of the new update and the server crashes lately, that the server might die again. I never really like the idea of a new map because of losing all my progress, but if it means keeping the server alive, it's worth it.
So yep.

Oh, and if we can update without all the lag and without a new map, that would be great!

Well said. My last server I quit because nobody wanted to "lose their progress by a reset". It basically died due to lack of participation. Id rather have to start new WITH new people joining than the continue the old with fewer people contributing.
I completely agree with what the above two said. Going off of that though, how feasible would it be to include versions of our current towns into a raiding/war mini-game in the next rev? Or even have ruined versions be part of a massive expansion of the zombie survival mini-game that Ninja was starting to build?

Next revision, I will have three old Hemitite maps at my disposal. We could always use structures from old revs in minigames. However, I don't want to switch to a new map quite yet. It will be before 1.8, but probably not for a while. We would have to update, then select a seed for the new map, then build the new spawn, then finally give people a week or two notice before switching maps.
Here are some screenshots of the rentals available in Fortuna. Rooms for as low as 1 diamond for a 1 year lease!
Ammenities Include: Pool, Community Garden, Storage Rooms, Enchantment Table, Anvil, Stocked Furnace Room, Stables, Sheep/Cow/Chicken Farm, and Rooftop Party Deck.
I think the server has reached the "ghost-town" point where most of the core members don't want to log on and build/explore because their progress will be gone in a few weeks. And I agree, it is depressing.
In my opinion, the new map can't come soon enough. On that note, if any help is needed building the new spawn, I'd love to contribute.
I agree with Howitza about Hemitite being to ghost-town point. It's disappointing, and nobody else comes on, so what's the point with the small amount of time I have. Updating to a new rev would bring back players I believe, or at least I would come on. I would help with a new spawn too, even though I'm not the greatest builder. I would help with whatever would be needed. The few people that do come on to the server, are people that came on after the server died, and don't know of anything better.
All of the talk about the new Rev scared everyone away. A decision wasn't made fast enough. Please just move forward with the Rev and then I know some of us will come back. Right now I see an average of 0 to 1 people on. That isn't very encouraging.
Unfortunately, Plat and Peanut seem like they've gotten bored with MC, at least for now. I'll try to get them on so we can build the new spawn for Rev 8. We had the ghost town problem at the end of Rev 5 and Rev 6 too, it's normal. The server will not stay like this.
PeanutMelon and I made a lot of progress on the new Rev 8 spawn today. Here's a sneak preview of the new spawn. Keep in mind that only a fraction of the entire spawn is complete.
I know that I've been lagging noticeably more ever since the anti-xray was put in, but I do think it is useful. Also, if you are annoyed with the fact that all of the minerals you mine turn into cobble, just right click on them first because it reveals what they really are.
On another note, is there any way that we can get the seed for the new map now, so that we can explore the surface of it before rev 8 goes live? That way when it does come up, I will already know where I want to build my fortress thing.
I don't see how it's helpful at all. It makes me not want to play. I think it will become obvious when somebody is cheating. Using a plugin for it is ridiculous.

A legend tells of something large and great.
A grand tale, of a new land.
Legend tells, of Rev 8.
Soon
