Realms of the Magi is new server running a particularly amazing magically themed modset. There is plenty to explore with something new around every corner. If you want to build, the mod set adds many new block types to work with. You can protect your work with MyTown and link your constructions up with other players using mystcraft portals.
ServerIP: 192.119.145.226:25614 (You'll need to install the mods first, see below)
Some of the things you can do in this universe,
-Travel the mainworld, exploring drastically changing and wonderous landscapes
-Explore in the depths of the twilight forest, perhaps encounter the dreaded king of the fire swamp, the many headed Hydra, the blood of which can forge the armor of kings!
-Delve into arcane mysteries, learning great and powerful magics
-Do battle with the wizard hunting knight orders of the world... perhaps even take over a castle if you've got the power or cunning!
-Sneak through the wastes of the cackling witches... or dare to enter a witch house!
-Befriend a friendly dwarven nation... maybe join them?
-Run from a giant cyclops!... unless he's lost his eye... then maybe you'll stand a chance!
-Find a stronghold, reach the end, and perhaps find an End Ogre waiting to smash you to bits!
-Unravel the mysteries of the universe itself and learn to inscribe the symbols of creation in order to create new worlds to explore! A great cavern... a world packed with ores... a world strangled by towering wooden tendrils...2 suns?...10 suns? when you make the world, anything is possible!
-Form a town with fellow wizards to protect your hard fought treasures from other wizards!
I've never had more fun in minecraft than with these mods and I do believe you'll love playing them. The endless adventure and arcane goals to pursue will keep you very busy.
Alright, so maybe you want to play now? Here are some groundrules and useful information,
- There isn't a whitelist, so protect your stuff with MyTown (its a lot like towny, but for forge)
- If you're caught griefing or just being a total jerk, I'll ban you... that being said, PVP is on and it is a dangerous world. I won't respond to everyone whining about spilled milk.
- No cheating, duping, xray, ect. If you're doing that, I'll probably just be mean and not ban you for a long time until you've built the most amazing thing ever, made tons of friends, and found the love of your life...then I'll ban you.
- You can turn off PVP in towns with MyTown... you might want to do that in your town. You can make mystcraft ages for resource gathering if you want to avoid possible PVP.
- Mystcraft ages WILL be purged periodicially... they drag the server down eventually if they aren't. I can save a few worlds if requested, but don't keep any great treasure hordes or amazing constructions in them.
- Don't make huge messes in the mainworlds (overworld and twilight forest particularly)
- You can gut mystcraft ages, leaving hanging trees there, whatever. That is what they are for, exploitation!
- I'll probably reset the end every so often
Installation!
If you don't want to do a manual install, I have fully configured MultiMC client instance that you can download. Due to the terms given by the various modpacks, I cannot make this openly available, but you can get to it through the new forums if you register.
Look for the Realms of the Magi thread in the Client Installation forum, which is only accessible if you are signed in.
Manual Install:
I highly recommend using MultiMC to use and configure mods. I use it for my installation that I'm about to walk you through! http://www.minecraft...dows-linux-mac/
-Open MultiMC
-Create new instance (top left button), name it what you want, change the icon if you like...
-Right click on new instance you just created. Select 'Change version' use 1.4.7 as the version.
-Right click on new instance, Selection 'edit mods'
-Select Minecraft.jar tab
-Press MCForge button, select 6.6.2.534
-Make sure you've downloaded the mods above...we'll start installing them now!
-Select Coremods Folder tab
-Press add, select MCore_3.3.07.jar
-Press add, select CodeChickenCore 0.8.1.6.jar
-Selection Mods Folder tab
-add ArsMagica_5.37.007-Universal.zip
-add ExtrabiomesXL-universal-1.4.7-3.11.0.jar
-add mystcraft-uni-1.4.7-0.10.1.00.zip
-add twilightforest-1.15.4.zip
-add Thaumcraft3.0.3.zip
-add ironchest-universal-1.4.7-5.1.0.249.zip
-add WitchesandMore147 V117b.zip
-add EnderStorage 1.4.1.4.jar
-You're done! You can mess with other configuration options or install a few client mods (I suggest NEI and Rei's mini map)
I would suggest changing a few config options for the mods themselves to make things easier on you. The mod config files are found in
\MultiMC\instances\[Your Instance Name]\minecraft\config
This is not a required step.
-Reduce lag in WitchesAndMore, turn off seasons
B:"Enable Forest Bloom tree seasonal changes?"=false
-See rendered labels in Mystcraft
B:options.renderlabels=true
Twilight Forest, BiomesXL, and various generated structures from Thaumcraft and Ars Magica add a ton. You'll find generated structures everywhere you go basically.
You only need a town to protect your stuff from other players...but you could, say, conquer an evil knight fort and claim that as a town. Gives you a ready built base of operations without building a thing. And if you do want to build..well there are hundreds of new block types to work with.
The server has been open for 6 days. I spent a couple weeks before that getting everything setup and tested. You would probably have to investigate a couple of the mods we use to determine if you would like it, but I can give you a rundown of what to expect.
Starting out will be a little more difficult than vanilla survival set at hard due to the new creatures added by the various mods. If you dig in at night and keep your areas lit, you'll can survive on your own just fine though. After you get an outpost setup and basic supplies going, you'll want to start working on your magical arts. There are three major roads to explore for this... Ars Magica, Thaumcraft, and Mystcraft.
Ars Magica gives you spells and adds a recharging mana system used to cast them. Those spells can cause plants to grow, shoot fireballs, shield yourself, heal, or even fly...among many other effects. You increase your power by spending regular minecraft XP and learn spells mostly through scrolls found exploring.
Thaumcraft lets you create a variety of magical items and all its magic is centered around those items, starting with a wand. You increase your capability though research which requires sacrificing a variety of materials.
Mystcraft lets you actually create new worlds with parameters that you define. Those parameters come from symbol pages that you can find, copy, and place into books that become the portal to the new world. Mystcraft worlds are the best place to gather materials and explore (due to new worlds being untouched by other players).
I suggest starting with Mystcraft, then branching to Ars Magica, and then finally going for Thaumcraft. Starting with mystcraft gives you a leg up with materials and sources of knowledge (generated treasure hordes).
While you develop your magical skills, you'll explore many amazing locations and no doubt bring home interesting new materials to incorporate into your structures. Personally, I've joined up with Athena and taken over a fort that we're converting into a fortress with a great wizard tower rising out of it, lit by magical wisp lights and surrounded by a rainbow tree forest. Another player has taken over an archmage tower. Another is planning development of an ice mountain. The server gives you a lot of options!
I am definitely interested. But I got spawned in a Silverwood tree and cannot escape because I get a message saying "You cannot build in this area." <.< Please fix this.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." George Bernard Shaw
I will, I'm guessing the spawn location shifted itself slightly and minecraft spawn code likes to put people in weird places when trees get involved. Unfortunately, I might have to trim those pretty silverwood and rainbow twilight trees. I'm glad I was monitoring often enough to get you teleported out of there.
you said someone took over an archmage's tower? what does this mean for using the archmage podium? do we just go to his house and use it, or is it in some public area, or do we start with the ability to already cast augmented spells?
Also, I can't get into the server, is it down?
and one last thing: I don't know how to get NEI to work with multiMC, I got rei's minimap to work, but NEI won't work
Yeah, you can just use my archmage podium by spawning at my tower via /t spawn Archmage_Shayde. I moved it to the first floor for easy access. It should work even though it's protected.
Also, not enough items goes in the coremods folder.
Crashed due to WitchesAndMore knights.... known issue. I can't turn off the existing spawners for them in castles/forts yet, but the general spawns for them are off. In any case, I'm keeping an eye on things as much as is possible. There were bound to be conflicts between such an extravagant mod set and I'll keep ironing things out.
Well, this looks quite interesting. Hopefully I can set my sleeping schedule back to normal and I might be able to get on at a reasonable time to play with some people. I'm probably gonna be asking a lot of questions about some of the mods as I haven't used all of them before. Mainly WitchesAndMore and IronChest. I've tinkered with Thaumcraft before but stopped using it, and every other mod I feel goes perfectly in Minecraft. Hope to see some people soon!
WitchesAndMore mainly adds things to explore. IronChests just adds higher tiers of chests with more space..very useful to contain piles of magical artifacts. Ars Magica and Thaumcraft are the complicated mods that add new mechanics you'll want to learn.
The connection in the US is great (no surprise). Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about international connections. Ironically, most servers I've played on were in the UK (Madrealms and RedSkyCraft) and I've always had 200+ ms latency to those servers, sometimes high enough to get block repops when mining. You can do a tracert to potentially find where the problem is, but that won't actually help you as you have no control over how things go outside of your home. The problem is somewhere between your ISP and the server hosting company... in that mire of international links which are quite slow compared to local connections.
If the lag is intolerable, I highly recommend MadRealms or Redskycraft servers (both are UK based). MadRealms was running a server with a similar modset to this one, but it is currently down due to bukkit vs mystcraft world instability... that is actually what spurred me into making this server! ...and also why I don't run any bukkit incarnation.
I've managed to modify the BlockFire java class to disable firespread. Previously, fire spread was stopped by disabling fire ticks. The downside of no fire ticks is that fire would never go out on its own and we had fires building up spot by spot from lightning strikes during storms. The modified fire code allows me to turn on fire ticks in the world so fires will go out properly now instead of sticking around forever. I searched far and wide for a forge mod to stop firespread, and none exist (that I could find). And so begins my adventures into custom modding!
I've also reset The End. So there is a new dragon to kill and other strange things to explore...

I'm getting this error when trying to enter the server?
I've double checked that I have the right version and have installed the mod multiple times. My game seems to work in survival and was wondering if you knew how to fix it?
Would love to play on this server. Thanks!
This looks like textbook ID conflicts. This shouldn't happen if you use MultiMC and follow the instructions given. Several people have run through that just fine. If you're trying to set things up another way, this could happen.
In order to resolve ID conflicts, you have to have IDs setup exactly as the server. You can do this by pasting over your config files with the ones used by the server:
If that doesn't work, you need to absolutely verify you're using the correct versions of the mods listed in the topic. I'd suggest installing MultiMC and creating a new instance exactly as the steps dictate.
