Well, we had a first. It didn't take long unfortunately. What it was, you might ask? Well, someone I won't name decided to cheat. We have been building a community mobspawner/xp farm. When complete, I forgot I hadn't built access to the roof, and needed to sort out slabs and such on there.
So, I switched to creative mode. I try not to do this at all, and only do it for those things that are either inside spawn (e.g. portals), or that are community projects because, well, reasons. So that being done, ladders being placed, we both ended up on this roof admiring the view. Until this person mined out two blocks, and fell in. There's a problem when that happens since you can't get out; pressure plates and half slabs kind of prevent the use of any blocks to hop up. So being the schmuck I am sometimes, I turned on creative mode for this person as well so they could fly out. 20 seconds later, I turned it off for both of us, and he went his way, and I ... well... got lost. Getting back to my base, and chatting with another player that I sort of teamed up with, we proceeded to level some terrain and build some farms.
The cheating player wanted to see, and made his way from spawn to where we were (about 500 meters) in 10 seconds flat. And instead of his old iron armor, he was wearing a full diamond set. Now, that takes 24 diamonds if I'm not mistaken, and to be honest, you don't find 24 diamonds in an hour. I decided to exercise my admin privileges and took a peek at the man's house, and found in his secret hidden chest 38 more diamonds.
And what appears to have been a full stack of glowstone. Now you don't get 64 glowstone (or 256 glowstone dust) *and* at least 62 diamonds in the space of an hour, unless you had creative mode for 20 seconds and used that to stash your inventory with things you weren't supposed to have.
Justice has been summarily handed out by removing said person from the whitelist, and doing some creative remodeling of his abode with the help of copious amounts of TNT. This place has since been redubbed "the hole of shame", and will remain until I find enough dirt to fill it in.
Now, here's something important for everyone that asks to be whitelisted. Read it, remember it, and we'll be good...
I don't have many rules. In fact I really only have one rule. On my server, you can pretty much build what you want, how you want it, and as long as you're not messing with other players' enjoyment of the game, it's all good. I don't play language police, and I trust you, the players, to not steal or cheat.
However, if you decide to abuse this trust, there will be consequences, ranging from a "aw wth dude why" to the total destruction of your property, up to de-whitelisting and/or a ban. Or a combination of the above.

Keep getting Internal Exception: Java.net.socketException: Connection Reset. Whenever I attempt Direct Connect. Is the server updated?
Runs 1.3.2, but it seems minecraft.net is having issues. Server itself is physically hosted in London, so unless there's something wacky going on with teh intarwebz, dunno what it is
edit: yes, session.minecraft.net is blowing it's stack, and the server needs to contact it to validate your session. Since it can't, the connection is dropped.

Mods: informing people that the server is again up because session.minecraft.net is back up is what I consider a significant update. Unless you have a really good explanation as to why it isn't, please refrain from removing posts like that. I'm not spamming, I'm not going against the rules, and if you consider it a bump, might I suggest applying some common sense?

Since our server is small, and I don't want the hassle of setting up a forum or a website for it just yet, I figured I'd use this thread to keep everyone (and our current players) up to date on recent fun things that happened. Of course, if you aren't a current player, feel free to become one by checking the form in the starting post
So, what's been going on, not too much on the grand scale of things. Everyone's been busy on their own little things, and been exploring the map. We did find a zombie spawner not too far away from spawn, so a lot of cobblestone and some shenanigans later, it's been turned into an xp farm. Coincidentally the communal mob spawner trap thing now works a lot better since there was a cave running right underneath spawn. I found it by way of falling into it when I was derping around digging out some more terrain... don't ask... efficiency IV shovels are like small nuclear bombs, they go off without warning and take out half the visible world :/
We also found a nether fortress about 200 meters away from the portal that links back to spawn, so blaze rods and the usual are available, and of course I managed to take not one, not two, but three dips into the lava courtesy of a very annoying ghast.
The question now is whether to set up a whole nether hub/transportation thing, or do it aboveground considering there's been some wild ideas about monorails and stations being tossed about. Maybe we'll just do both...
And on that note, that'd be the significant stuff going on these days. If you want to join the fun on a 100% vanilla server that runs not a single plugin (there is no /spawn, /home, or /sethome), you know what to do

Victory! You are whitelisted. I'm currently not able to get in-game, so I'll give you the tour later on. Some quick bits: if you want to hit up a totally unexplored area, head north from spawn (I think it's north... keep the fugly mob spawner on your left). The other way is where 3 of us have set up shop, and a bit further away from us is our 4th. There's also someone near spawn who is building either a death star or a huge bio-dome, but you'll see that one right away since it's... huge.
Other than that, welcome to the club that shall not be named *shifty-eyes*

For those who will be joining the game, I'm about to head off so I'm not sure if people will be online or not (it's a small server), but be wary of the area around spawn, the mobs are all sorts of vicious and seem to enjoy tormenting freshly spawned players.
There's also a few repairs I need to do there at some point... there have been a few creeper incidents.

Now, for a little bit of introduction since I'm not in-game at this moment, it's getting quite busy around the spawn area (or at least within about a 500 block radius of it), so you will probably have to move out a bit further. We're already having some mine-tunnel interference at the moment so yeah, to avoid total gridlock...
When you spawn, you will see a large dome .. or half dome.. thing off to one side of it, in that direction, past the dome there has been no building at all, I've explored around there for a bit and it's mostly swamps and some plains, ocean, and some islands. On another side of spawn is a huge hole in the ground with the remains of a house floating over it, this is the hole of shame - the story explaining it can be found further back in this thread; in that direction, there hasn't been much of anything either. In fact I haven't traveled in that direction yet. The side of spawn that looks like the door was busted and replaced with some shoddy wood quick-fix (hello mr. creeper sir!) has a jungle biome further on, which is where a few of us have set up shop. The direction you face when you spawn is where most people have gone (surprise surprise :D).
Spawn itself isn't really much to look at, there is a one-level mob spawn trap near it that I built but sort of gave up on so if you feel inclined to mess with it, feel free, but it comes with a ton of redstone doodads. Other than that, there are, dotted around the landscape, a few ugly looking upside down U shaped things. This usually means there used to be a dungeon under there that has been turned into an xp/item farm. Look for the trapdoor down and read any signs that are down there because some of them explain how to operate the various levers, buttons, and other bits of magic. Stuff that is in chests at these xp/item farms is free for all, e.g. if you need it, take it, if you don't, put it in.
Regarding underground bases, I approve (since my own is underground), just keep in mind you will have to most likely head in the dome/hole of shame direction, since the terrain in other directions is rather liberally dotted with caverns and ravines, and not all of those have been explored, or lit up for that matter.
Other than that, welcome to the server, have a good time, and please don't feed the creepers, they're causing big enough holes as is
References to Fight Club win you points in my book.
Does in mine too I really should ask another question to warp people's minds a little... but it'd be a bit mean so I won't
