by Leobyn » 02 Mar 2012, 07:38 Recently, the server seems not so Hardcore. Yes, if death happens, there is a ban, and that IS hardcore. However, these mobs are no longer a concern. When I once actually moved with caution in a cavern, looking over my shoulder, I now run along without worry. I don't know about how the rest of you guys feel about this, but I had a much better time playing on the server when the mobs were badasses. It was one of the features that defines this server and makes it unique.
I understand the reason for making them easy, but they are easy on just about every other server out there. Please bring back the Hardcore to this server by giving the mobs Captain Amercian's Super Soldier serum back.
by FlyAce1100 » 02 Mar 2012, 10:40 I also agree with this as do others but havnt said anything yet, the whole reason i joined this server was the serious hardcore of it all, it makes it very exciting to know u have to stay on your toes, if u want more pvp, then maybe make the xp levels easier to get, as most people spend thier time trying to do things to enchant or increase their levels to b more badass! I.E. mob spawners and such, just saying, Peace!
BTW the update is really cool. ive seen Jungle Cats. Camouflage Creepers and the Lava sounds really cool, not to mention Hanging in the Trees like a monkey, hahah!
I'm actually inclined to agree with both of these. Even in the nether I don't feel threatened by mobs. I remember not that long ago I was forced to relocate at night time.. resulting in a sprint across the map being chased by HOARDES of monsters which would eagerly do horrible things to me. Now I rarely see mobs at all in the first place.
As for increasing the amount of PvP, I think two methods should be considered. Firstly would be higher mob numbers. They don't have to be super powered or anything, just plentiful. With hoardes of enemies around every corner the solo survival mode feel would still be available, as well as a reasonable source of exp. Certainly better than maybe a level every few days.
The other way I'd suggest trying to increase PvP would be with planned or semi-plannable 'event' matches. Perhaps an automated arena system, or simply a moderator run arena from time to time. Focused on pvp for glory, and possiby a reward, players could show up to the event bare and use provided arena equipment. This may sound counterintuitive, but it would give an even playing field for the arenas as well as remove the 'I'll lose all my gear' problem which would otherwise discourage players.
Re: Mob difficulty by evilmordekai » 02 Mar 2012, 14:16 I wholeheartedly agree. In fact I think it is the reason this server is so cool. The smallish death ban + the hardcore mobs make haphazard/ill-prepared travel DEADLY.
To survive night time, top side you have to be dedicated and put in the time on the server to mine for a full suit of armor/diamonds/etc, and *still* play carefully.
From my experience on several other pvp servers, the griefers are there because it's too easy to waltz in and walk around nonchalantly (naked even!) looking for bases to loot/burn down etc. The greifers won't want to put in the time and dedication into mining/spelunking to build up enough power to be able to withstand the mobs while they wander around looking for people's bases.
[EDIT:] I see the reasoning behind normal mobs... to bring in new players. But I think that the reason the new players are showing up is because they want that hardcore experience... that experience is certainly lessoned with normal mobs. Perhaps, a better solution to this delimma would be to post signs at spawn giving new players "life lessons" like: "1) Mobs are on Steroids! The will mess you up! 2) Zombies eat torches! Be Generous with lighting! 3) Take your Newb Starter Kit! You too are a newb!"
[EDIT:] Perhaps you can also play around with the starter kit to give those newbs an easier time. Maybe give them a sword... or some wood/coal.
[EDIT:] I just had a look at your new shop donation packages and my first thought was that the value of them quickly goes up when the difficulty of the server is increased Sorry for triple edit and ridiculously long post.. but i really liked the Beefier mobs! I'll shut up now.
TLDR: as a result of lowering mob difficulty we'll start to see more greifers; that is, People with client side hacks (xray,flying/etc), people who don't actually want to invest the time into playing the game (building a base, mining, etc.) but just want to spend an evening looking for hardworking, always-on, server-regulars and either steal or destroy their stuff (and then probably not log back into the server for weeks because they're bored!Just letting u know wat those who are dedicated to server are saying..... and i agree with above post
News our Chest plugin its currently NOT working for donors, Izoth and I are doing all we can to fix this issue.
on an other note I like the server as it is debe its just giving ideas. atm the mobs are vanilla like to encourage new players to join but after a few days I will put them the way they were before.
it is troublling trying to please everybody all the time, so in reality you can only please some people some of the time. heeeheee Keep up the Good work!, ill always Play on this server. Dead or Alive......and i always end up Dead most of the Time no matter wat u do to it,lol
Lol on the "shame" Debe, ya i never liked Arenas much myself. Its much More fun to sneak up on someone with a hot bucket or Sharp sword when there least expecting it.

will prob have one every month, or so
ps; nobs should now be able to survive !
its nether still dangerous?
nether will always be HARD!
You sure? I've ventured into the nether to make a base and it feels a little lackluster on the other side. xD
mnm maybe i should increase difficulty now...
