I've been on the Empire servers about a month and I'm happy to say I've found a home I can live with a LONG time. Safe at Home and Adventuresome in the wild. :biggrin.gif:
We've just added a way to compete with other Minecrafters WITHOUT resorting to PVP. Introducing for the first time in Minecraft history:
This is a big update, mostly around XP (experience points). First of all, XP/Levels are now cross-server. This means you have the same in-game XP, no matter what server you are connected to. If you leave one server and go to another, your XP goes with you. Think of it like you rupees balance.
Secondly, you no longer lose your in-game XP/Levels when you die. This is something many players requested during our last community survey. This also means you don't drop XP orbs when you die. This was done because of community requests as well as to support some other things we are doing with XP to not allow boosting (next paragraph).
Finally, the most exciting part! Many players have asked for a way to compete friendly with leaderboards. This is something Minecraft is kind of missing. We played with many different ideas over the past few months. The goal was to find something that is fair for everyone, is technically plausible, and would not impact players that don't care about it. What we finally came up with was a new concept called Total Earned Experience Points, TEXP.
Every time you pickup XP orbs (killing things) your TEXP goes up. Your TEXP never goes down, even when you spend your XP/Levels on enchantments. So even though TEXP is based off of XP it doesn't affect its use in any way. This EMC exclusive just gives you one more way to play.A new Leaderboards section has been added to the site (tabs on top). It contains a monthly and lifetime TEXP leaderboard. On the right of the leaderboard is a search box to locate a player. This leaderboards section will be used for some more future ideas.
This latest update is yet another example of how dedicated the admins are to bringing a FANTASTIC SMP experience to the players. This update is great because it gives the community a friendly competition; to see how much TEXP you earn in the month, and ultimately your lifetime at EMC.
If you are stuck for choosing a server, I highly recommend this one! Its great and provides you with that true SMP experience.
It was only a week after SMP5 that we had to open SMP6. EMC now offers 420 player slots among our Empire of servers. I don't see this slowing down anytime soon.
We don't have a whitelist. Simply go and sign up. You'll have to do a short tutorial before signing into the town. Make sure you read it (and the Empire Guide it directs you to) to get a quick start. :smile.gif:

I would, but my computer is not available until morning, but first thing, I'm going on this server!
EMC has added another server recently: smp7.empireminecraft.com which bumps our total player count up to 480 on at one time! We're also running on a super fast version of 1.2.4.
We should be launching SMP 8 and 9 sometime very soon. We'll keep you posted on when this happens. This will add another 120 player slots to the growing Empire.
Finally, I've saved the best for last...a brand new Empire Minecraft EXCLUSIVE feature! Read about it below:
"The last few days I was going through code and fixing a bunch of bugs to do with teleporting (mostly with residences and the /home location). But at the same time I decided to add something new called RTS, or the Residential Teleporting System. It uses signs and pressures plates, keeping it light so it won't add to server lag. The possibilities for this are endless, I believe this is going to empower builders to create even more interactive experiences. And of course this is yet another EMC exclusive.
I will stop flapping my gums and give you the details. To create a RTS teleporter you first select the destination (using a simple command), and then create the teleporter using a sign and pressure plate.
Usage:
Step one, while standing in the destination (where you want the exit) type the chat command /res tpsign. You will see a confirmation message in chat.
Step two, find the place you want the teleporter entry point (the pressure plate). Place a sign with the word teleport on the first line. Leave the other lines blank. You will get a confirmation message in chat once again.
Step three, place a pressure plate one block DIRECTLY above the sign. That's it, you are done, go ahead and start using it
Even more flexibility:
If you put teleport on the first line of the sign, and then a res name or number on the second line, the RTS teleporter will then take players to the specified residence (just like using /visit)."
From reading the comments, Im going to check this server out for myself!!
Please do, you will be glad you did. Go to the EMC forums first and look at the Empire Guide to help you go through the Tutorial portion of becoming a member. It's easy if you do. Not too hard if you don't and can read signs. Go here: http://empireminecraft.com/guide/

I have played on many different servers and have found few that I find to be truly enjoyable. EMC is one of those few. The staff is friendly and quick to deal with any issues or people that attempt to ruin the fun of others. The Vanilla setup is a welcome change and adds a bit of a challenge to anyone that is used to having teleporting as a benefit. I also love the fact that when you die you don't lose your xp that you have earned, though you will have to get find your death point. The website for the server also has a list of very helpful mods that they allow and believe me they help out a ton. All in all I would highly recommend this server to anyone that enjoys the game and likes to work and build with others. If you are a loner there is plenty for you to do as well.
It's really no secret: this is one of the absolute best servers out there. Before I found this great community, I floated about a bit from server to server. Most of them gave the same experience; if you're new, we won't bother taking the time to care about you, unless you give us some money. Staff were highly immature and would ban 'for teh lulz'. Everytime I found a community with decent staff, it was so impractical that playing was nearly impossible. If you wanted to build anything, you had to talk to the mayor of a town and wait ages to be accepted, or go out into the wild and grief everyone else, then build your own place, as there were hardly any resources left in the wild, and the Admin Shop sold at prices that a new member could never dream to obtain.
I had almost had it with multiplayer, when, one day, I decided to look through MCSL one more time. I saw a server called 'Empire Minecraft.' "Gee, that sounds empirical," I thought. But I figured I'd give it a try. I tried to connect to the adress provided on MCSL, and I got a message saying "Join now at EmpireMinecraft.com." I almost didn't, I had the impression that it would be an utter waste of time to go and give my information to a minecraft community. Boy, was I wrong.
Fast-forward a few weeks, and I'm hooked. However, I did not start perusing the forums immediately. Once I did, I realized I had only hit the tip of the iceberg. The idea that over 10,000 people (at the time, now it's 35,000) could come together and discuss, and all coexist and have fun in general, was somewhat intoxicating. Since that fateful day in January, I have met a lot of new friends, from all over the world, with different ages, likes, dislikes, etc. The EMC community is honestly one of the best I've ever come across, and I'm really glad I did.
I could go on for ages, but my point is this. EMC is great, not necessarily because we've got really good plugins (we do) but because of the people. The staff are friendly, supporters are welcoming, and (almost) everyone is as helpful as possible.

This Server is still Alive, Well, and Thriving. Perfect server to stick to for a while. 10 servers also. I have never once regretted joining this server.
