#2 Country and Age (this is for our demographic purposes)
- 29 America
#3 How did you hear about us?
- MC.net
#4 Why do you want to Join DarkTide?
- 'Cause I want a server that's dangerous and fun.
#5 Did you read and understand the rules?
- I did.
#6 Have you logged on to DarkTide at least once?
- I did!
NOTE that #6 is very important, because we can't give you build permissions until you LOG IN at least once.
There is a reason we do it this way, it is for when you buy perks with yardsale, it needs to have a name attached to it.
We do not ask for your poor or your hungry, we do not want your tired and sick. It is your hardcore we seek. Do not whine, do not spam, do not cheat, and listen to the staff. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are not polite suggestions; they are codes of behavior and those that ignore them will pay the dearest cost.
Other than that... IF YOU CAN DO IT..... IT'S LEGAL....
We're a group of light-RP players who wanted a darker experience in Minecraft; unfortunately the "hardcore" servers were either light on fun, light on RP, light on danger, or had too much Admin interference in player affairs.
So we started DarkTide to be a truly unique experience! We cater to those who are not afraid of a hard life, and to work for what you want. That is not the same, tired cliche phrase you're used to; we intend to provide an experience that empowers the players to drive Minecraft to its limits. We do not believe that there is a "correct" way to play Minecraft; we believe that we can create a compelling persistent world with the tools provided to us by notch and by the community. We have plugins to make the game more interesting than the vanilla server, and intend to add more later if they're appropriate to the theme of our server.
The broad concept of DarkTide is that outside of the spawn area, and the dungeons there is absolutely NO server staff interference at all: you are free to declare war as you choose, and form alliances. Perform amazing acts of heroism, and commit vile acts of treachery. You never have to ask admin permission to do something. If you physically are capable of doing it, then do it.
You can gather players under a leader and form a Clan, then purchase land to protect your creations, or go solo and buy the rights to protect your own house. Whatever you want, you can do, if you have the coin that is.

Economy
Coins are the currency of our world. You can get coins by several different means, such as: Trading (You may trade with other players in the trade channel or trade with yardsale signs).
PvPing (You take a player's loot after killing them).
Exchanging Gold. Here are some examples of different gold exchange rates:
Gold Exchange
Public Gold Exchange Rate (Read Below): 1 Gold Bar = 75c
Banker's Gold Exchange Rate (For Bankers Only): 1 Gold Bar = 100c
Any citizen of the realm can bring gold to Darktide City and sell it to the Bank's convenient sign ATMs for 75c.
The Bank:
However, a Town (see below) that has constructed a bank may buy your gold from you at a better rate, as their Bankers may exchange your gold at the Darktide City Bank for 100c.
We fully expect and encourage cities to outbid Darktide City in all affairs of trade once they get established, but that is the point! Find a city to take your coin at a better rate, or suffer the cost of convenience and accept a paltry sum from the Darktide City Bank.
Coins may be used in trade with players or to purchase wares from the Darktide City Marketplace, and may additionally be used to satisfy certain debts such as land upkeep.
A new economy system will be applied to DarkTide soon, which gives our economy a completely different view. Players will not have to find Gold in order to make a living. Instead, several shops will be set up allowing the player to sell different items at these shops. This encourages different roles, such as lumberjacks, and de-values X-rays.
Marketplace Shops
A Classic View of DarkTide City's Marketplace:
Currently, we are using the YardSale plugin, developed by our awesome coder, SquallSeeD31. This is an exclusive plugin to the DarkTide Server.
Inside Darktide City's expansive marketplace, there are themed shops that sell nearly everything in the world, including rare materials that may not otherwise be obtainable! Like many MMORPG's, these shops will have higher prices than you may want to pay, but are always available. This encourages you to look for other players selling these items to get the best deal, while still providing the opportunity to get what you need as a last resort.
With the YardSale plugin, players are also allowed to purchase the YardSale perk - which allows the to create their own shops.
An Example of a Yardsale Shop:
Perks
Perks are special in-game benefits that you do not normally have while playing minecraft, and typically involve the features of a plugin.
In recognition of their rare and powerful status, all Perks are purchased with Sponges
Sponges may be purchased any time at the Mage Tower (depicted below) at the rate of 1 Sponge for 1500c
You will also earn sponges when you donate money to the server. (More info can be found at thedarktide.net
We decided to implement this secondary currency system so that we could reward donors without affecting the in-game coin economy: no coin is added to the server as a result of donating, it all comes from Gold. Furthermore, we have not altered the in-game properties of sponges at all, so they may be freely traded, and donors may find a wanting market in selling Sponges for less than the Mage Tower asks. Through this system, we can ensure that hard work will earn you the same rewards as donors, but donors may be able to get to what they want faster (and keep the server going in the process - Thanks).
Once a special ability is yours, it is yours forever, though some perks may additionally have a coin or reagent cost per use.
Land Owner Land Owner I (Grants you a 25x25 protected piece of land) Land Owner II(Requires LandOwner I, increases your peice of land to 35x35)
LWC Locksmith (Grants use of LWC and allows 10 Protections) Extra 4 Locks (Requires Locksmith. Grants the player 4 extra locks. No practical limit)
YardSale YardSale (Grants the player 1 initial YardSale sign) 5 YardSale Sings (Requires YardSale. Grants the player 5 more YardSale signs.)
Skills/Spells: Stealth (/sneak allows you to move at full speed while sneaking without holding shift) :sponge:35
Clans & Towns
Clans are organizations of players that work together in-game, and may found a village. Players may belong to one and only one Clan, but are free to leave and join another Clan as they please.
To make a clan you must:
- Have 11 players (including youself) that swear allegiance to you.
- A name for your clan
- A founded Village. To found a Village and receive protection, you must pay tribute in Sponges.
Village 75x75 - 10 Followers
Features
[*:1val38na]75x75 Block protected area (no create or destroy without permission)
[*:1val38na]15x15x15 Block PvP-Disabled area - Able to set home here
[*:1val38na]Clan Subforum on Official Website
A village is the smallest settlement type. It is an area that only your clan members can build in, and thanks to the region plugin all chests inside may only be opened by clan members as well. A village gets a small PvP-disabled area for its citizens to flee into in case of raid. This can be a Town Hall, Church, or even a bunker or military keep. Aside from this area, your village is vulnerable to attack at any time, so take some time now to plan your defenses!
Town 125x125 - 20 Followers
Features
[*:1val38na]125x125 Block protected area (no create or destroy without permission)
[*:1val38na]31x31x15 Block PvP-Disabled area - Able to set home here
[*:1val38na]Clan Leader and one Banker designated by the leader may sell Gold Bars at Darktide City Bank for 100c
[*:1val38na]Warpgate connected outside your town
[*:1val38na]Clan Subforum on Official Website
When your clan grows and your leader has 20 players sworn to them, you may upgrade your Village to a Town. When upgraded, the Town and its protected areas get bigger, and the town earns a bank. The bank allows the town to make money faster by unlocking the 100c Gold exchange rate from Darktide City for its leader and designated Banker. Since your Town's bank will be a PvP-disabled area, this would be a good location for a secure vault for members' belongings.
The Town upgrade also brings with it the right to construct a warpgate outside of your town, which will be linked to the Darktide City Nexus. Once linked, players with the "Warpgate" Perk can warp to just outside your city which can help facilitate trade. Because the Warpgate is actually constructed outside your Town, you won't be in any additional danger from raiders... so long as your borders are secure.
City 175x175 - 30 Followers
Features
[*:1val38na]175x175 Block protected area (no create or destroy without permission)
[*:1val38na]51x51 Block PvP-Disabled area - Able to set home here
[*:1val38na]Clan Leader and two Bankers designated by the leader may sell Gold Bars at Darktide City Bank for 100c
[*:1val38na]Warpgate connected outside your town
[*:1val38na]Clan Subforum on Official Website
Once your clan's ranks have swelled to 30 loyal members, you may upgrade your Town to a City. A City upgrade gives you more room still, and the addition of another PvP-disabled area: this one is a secure place to buy, sell and trade your wares to compete with the Darktide City Marketplace's overpricing hucksters.
Finally, Darktide City will recognize the growing political influence of the top two Cities in the realm by granting them an embassy inside the city itself. Clans owning an embassy are free to decorate it and use it as they wish, so long as they remain in power...
A Simple Town:
Upkeep
All settlements must pay a weekly upkeep fee to maintain their status and powers. This upkeep provides a need beyond trade for coin, and ensures that the world won't be cluttered with abandoned structures, as raiders are sure to hear about those settlements that have failed to pay their dues.
Villages must pay 1500c every week. Failure to pay upkeep will result in a warning and additional 1500c fee. If another week goes by in which your upkeep is not paid in full (1500c for last week, 1500c fee, 1500c for this week = 4500c total!), your settlement's powers and status will be dropped, allowing anyone to destroy your structures and loot your valuables.
This price increases to 3000c per week for towns, and 4500c per week for cities.
The upkeep cost is roughly equal to 150 gold bars per person per week at the normal rate. We feel that this is a nominal fee that will largely serve as an activity test, and encourage Clan leaders to proactively police their ranks for inactive members, as an unproductive member gathers no gold for the settlement. The upkeep fee still applies to personal land owners, but they must pay 300 a week.
Upkeep may not be paid in advance, although anyone can pay it. Work out amongst yourselves how you will handle the collection and payment of taxes; will you require every member to pay the gold from their own pockets, or organize a raid to steal it from another settlement?
Alternately, settlements may be paid in the DTC barracks. This is done so by entering the barracks, finding the YardSale sign with your name or the settlement's name on it, and purchasing the dirt from it.
PvP Rules
PvP rules are short and straightforward: outside the pillars of the spawn city, PvP is enabled EVERYWHERE including in your settlement, with the exceptions of certain CLEARLY MARKED No-PvP buildings (town hall, market, bank).
Every location in the Wild has PvP on, 24/7.
A Picture Taken From the Safety of DarkTide City's walls:
If you can kill someone, it's a legal kill; if plugins fail, it's a legal kill (we MIGHT at our sole discretion choose to reimburse you for this);
An example of a PvP battle can be found in the video below:
Do not set your home point in an settlmenet that you are not a citizen of.
Admin & Staff Rules
We, the staff of this server, have designed these rules to be as simple to enforce as possible so we can enjoy the server too.
Admins and other server staff are placed under strict scrutiny and held to stronger rules than everyone else. This is done in an effort to ensure that everyone is treated fairly under the rules and so admins and mods have fun too. It is our goal to conduct the affairs of our server with as much transparency as is operationally feasible.
Admins will not use godmode, teleport, give item, or any command or power outside of those that they earned legitimately, except when on official server business. (They MAY teleport to their original location after finishing server business.)
Excepting Darktide City, all areas will be 100% legit. Server staff may choose to join a Clan, but may not hold ANY position of authority in that clan (including Banker). This also means that server staff, including Admins, will NOT be allowed to spawn materials or teleport their clan members, so don't ask.
There is a petition system for issues that may necessitate Mod/Admin attention, such as creation/upgrade of a settlement. There will be answered as soon as possible. Please bear in mind that the staff's decisions in handling a petition are FINAL, and that restoration of any kind is never guaranteed under ANY circumstances.
Admins and Mods are not contractually obligated to answer your pe's immediately, we're players too, and you might have to wait a while sending /tells to staff about your pe's will move them DOWN in the line.
