Sigh...I've tried to figure out why myself, but can't.
I can't get any items in the server, or submit messages to chat. Help please?
EDIT: I notice I also can't die, and blocks I destroy regenerate.
Are you trying to spawn items into your inventory?
And blocks regenerating means your in a town, you need to walk to the wilderness or join a town.

1. Not trying to spawn items in inventory; just don't even see items when i destroy blocks.
2. I was playing on the just-for-fun vanilla server, which i thought had no towns.
3. I couldn't see where towns are; the chat commands don't work for me because when I press enter the chat window dissapears but the message or command doesn't go through.
