However regarding the artifact in your backstory, people are not allowed to start with any major items aside from small things. However I do like this application a lot and it has been one of the better ones posted here, so I will be sending you a PM with more information on this subject.
When you join the game you are allowed one free home in the city if you so choose, simply pick an unclaimed home that does not have a for sale sign on it and post your name on a sign somewhere around the front door! If you would rather build your own home then you may instead claim any empty area along the roads behind the city and build there, or if you prefer, anywhere you would like in the wilds outside the city limits.
I apologize for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm typing this on my phone, so I may not catch all of them. thanks! [/b]

You’re walking around the markets at around noon. There’s a lot of people around you, still gathering their items as they prepare to shut down their many stands. Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting. You have been robbed.[/b]
my mouth drops, shocked a young child would steal my hard earned money. I shake off my initial surprise and take off after the kid.
"get back here you brat!" I yell, maneuvering my way through the crowd. the child has the advantage, as he slips past all the chattering people with ease. as we turn a corner, the kid hits a dead end. I snatch my coin purse out of his hands triumphantly, yet out of breath. I look down at him, and notice his ragged clothes and dirty appearance. it was obvious he was homeless. out of pity, I reach into my coin purse and toss him a few gold coins. "stay outta' trouble" I say, then walked off.
You’re heading back to the city through the woods when you hear a whining coming from nearby. Upon further investigation you come across a grey-coloured wolf that appears to have its leg caught in a bear trap. Around it is three smaller lumps of fur, obviously puppies belonging to the trapped mother. Without help, they’ll all die, but wolf skins are quite valuable too, not to mention that the nearby farms suffer quite a bit from the wolf population. [/b]
I gasp in horror, standing still. I step forward to help the wolf, but then I falter.
its true, their coat is worth quite the coin these days, plus, the mother is already so injured.. even if I release her, she probably wont get far, meaning her and her cubs will die anyway. plus the farmers would be appreciative... I look into the mother wolf's eyes, and she starts to growl, and whimper. as if she can tell what i'm about to do. I pray to the gods, as I end her suffering with a dagger, that I keep with me while traveling in the woods.

----IC Info---- -Character name: Andor Fessal
-Character race: Human
-Character age: 19 years old
-Character Occupation: None
-Character description: I, Andor Fessal, am a mildly tall man reaching just about 6 feet in length. My hair is a mix of Black and Gray giving a more "intelligent" look. My eyes are the color green giving the appearance of a snake. Some people take me as shady because of my slim figure resulting in a more undesirable look. My facial expressions are usually a stern look, a poker face type of look, usually not frowning, but sometimes smiling.
I usually like to wear standard, peasant like clothes to keep attention off of me, though sometimes I enjoy wearing a little fancy clothes like a guards uniform while I'm with my friends.
-Character personality and traits: My traits are a variety of things including: intelligence, strategy, a very rare phenomena of magic, low agility, a little more physical strength than High-Elves, and I am very manipulative. I see things differently than other humans, manipulating people to my favor. I am not very social, I do have a few friends but have trouble making them because the feeling I give out to people. But, when I am social I usually are manipulating someone to my advantage. I believe that I received my gift of manipulation from my father, after talking with him for hours, he would tell me stories on how he almost lost all of his money, but in a way cheated to make it look like the bet was false. Besides that, I can get very emotional sometimes because of how people judge me or feel about me, I am very self-conscious with my figure and try to look as friendly as possible, usually failing. I, personally, look up to the god Udero, he has always been a sort of idol for me, as keeps everything in balance, I would like to do the same.
-Character biography (At least three paragraphs describing your character's history and experiences): I was born out of a lower middle-class family, in the town of Barkamsted, with very caring parents, growing up more to myself designing new ideas for the world, less social than my peers. My grandparents where one of the first refugees to Barkamsted, they would always tell me stories of the first years when the town wasn't built of several plagues roaming the town in it's early age. Back then, there was much more crime in the city, werewolf's were uncommon but were much more dangerous back then then now. Even now, we are still very restricted on where we can go, since the pact has taken over the rest of the country.
I considered myself to have a good childhood as both of my parents loved me very much, they often got into fights because of my dads addiction to gambling. He would bet our rent money always loosing it all, it got so bad that my mom and I had to leave him to live a better life. My mother is a very hard-working person, she would juggle 2-4 part-time jobs at once trying to get enough money for food, clothing, and a warm home. She would usually work at the Bakery in the morning to noon, then head over to the bar and serve as a bartender until late at night. She would switch jobs every other day, so for one day it would be the bakery and the bar, while on the second day it would be the blacksmith and library. I always was proud for my mother, as she could do so many things at once, which I thought I never could. Life growing up wasn't that great, but it got better when I moved out.
At first it was hard to leave the person I have spent my whole life with, but eventually I got used to it. I live in a small 2-story house with 2 rooms, but in a nice neighborhood. My personality prevents me from making many friends, but I made a few friends, and even contacted my old friends from school. I am not really employed, I do work for my neighbors if they need help which gets me the money I need for the market, but I received majority of my money from my father. Apparently, for the past 10 years he has gambled and actually succeeded resulting in him becoming a very wealthy man, it was nice seeing him again, but I was afraid that he still had a addiction to gambling.
My mother prays to the god Aderoth, while my father is more in favor with Bothimir. I think that they both match because Aderoth provides healing while Bothimir provides magic, together it could be something powerful. Before my mother and father departed from each other, we weren't that "religious" in our acts. Every month or so we would pray to the gods for their blessings, but then again not every month. I always felt something in my father, that I had not before felt, when I was a child I would joke about how my father was very dedicated to Bothimir, and I joked about how he had a power to always fail at gambling sarcastically, but now, once I think over it again, I feel as there is something in him that I had not noticed before.
-Please give us a short RP response to these two scenarios. (At least one paragraph for each.)
You’re walking around the markets at around noon. There’s a lot of people around you, still gathering their items as they prepare to shut down their many stands. Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting. You have been robbed
As the child takes my purse, I instantly start sprinting after him, the child is much more agile than me and finally outruns me. I was filled with despair when I remembered that I've seen the child with the Robinson family before, I think to myself that maybe its their child. I start heading to the Robinsons house which is located in the shady side of town, as I approach the house, I see a small figure peeping through the window and then suddenly hiding. I knock on the door, Mrs. Robinson looks at me with a very guilty stare, I ask if I may see her child, she says to me,"I don't have a child" I remember the small figure I saw in the window, and suddenly I notice the child peering at me from the living room hidden behind a couch. I barge in and demand for my money, Mrs. Robinson pleads with me saying that he's just a chlld and that's its her fault and she got him to take it because they didn't have enough money for their dinner. She quickly hands me my wallet, instinctively I check that every single coin is in there, and finally I give Mrs. Robinson a handful of coins for her and her son, she says,"Thank you very much, Andor. I'm very sorry for what happened.", I reply with,"Don't ever do that again, don't you care for your son? What would happen if I was much more agile and a man with anger issues? Do NOT ever do that again". I barge out of the house wondering if what I did was right.
You’re heading back to the city through the woods when you hear a whining coming from nearby. As I come across the wolf, stuck in the bear trap with its puppies, a little bit of guilt rushes through me. The Wolf stares at me pleading for help, and in my mind I am thinking on what I should do. Wolves cause a lot of disturbance to the nearby farms and money from wolf-skins would help. But my innocence over-powers me, as I come closer, the wolf starts to growl at me, and I attempt to look like I'm there to help and that I am not a danger. The wolf lashes at me, missing, but when I start saying help repeatedly the wolf stares at me with a innocent look. I come next to the bear-trap, attempting to free the wolves with all my strength, the wolf also starts helping out by using its force. Together we open the bear trap freeing the wolf and its puppies. I start to move back unsure of what will follow, the wolf gives a small smile, unsure what to do I start sprinting towards the city not looking behind, hoping I did the right thing.
Only fill out if you want your character to have magic capabilities. If you do not fill this out then your character will be incapable of performing any form of magic. Also note that it will take significant in character practice and experience to become any form of proficient in magic.
(We only accept high quality magic applications!) _______________________________________________________________________
-Describe to us why you wish for your character to have magical capabilities: I wish for my character to have magical capabilities because I consider myself to be very unique type of human. I give out a negative look but at the same time am a very innocent and caring person. I believe to have magic would allow me to show people that I am different, I am not your average day person, but a more intelligent, unique, and powerful person. Some people think that I am just a waste of air, but really, I will make a change in this realm, I will show people that I am not like the others. Once I get started on a specific objective, I cannot stop until it is complete, I do not give up, and I am not easily fooled. Magic would help me give people what they need... what they deserve. I could heal those who could not afford to be healed, I could help people that are filled with despair and do not know what to do, I would help people and be different from the rest.
-Please give an example in your own words describing the limitations placed upon those who use magic: Limitations on those who use magic include several of things. For example, I cannot be stressed while using magic, I have to be calm to channel the mental power through myself to achieve whatever I master in. Magic is very hard to be used during fights because Magic is not a easy 1-2-3 process, it requires you to focus yourself to the task and not let anything differ you from it. As in the thread, magic is a like a muscle, you have to work to use it meaning that you cant use magic multiple times in a row, rather let your physical and mental state return to normal.
-Please give a simple description of the magic system in your own words: Magic in this realm requires you to be born into, or gifted with the potential to channel your physical and metal energy through artifacts from the ancients or from skilled mages who have been taught in crafting artifacts. Every artifact is capable of doing whatever specific field it was intended for. For example, Holy Magic allows someone to perform positive acts like healing.
-You are given a very basic trinket of fire, you haven't had much practice with magic yet, but you will try your best. Describe some things you could/would do with this trinket: As I have not yet learned how-to wield such devices, I have an idea on how magic works and will attempt to use it. For example, I could use the trinket for such simple things as starting a fire at my fireplace by forcing all my focus and mental will to the artifact channeling my feeling and emotions to result in a possible outburst of fire from the trinket. Or, I am lost in the deep forests and I come across a werewolf that is growling at me and about to attack, I could channel everything I had against the werewolf using the artifact to maybe scare it away with the fire to protect myself.

----IC Info----
-Character name: Cedany Bromschild
-Character race: Human
-Character age: 26
-Character Occupation: Physician/Healer
-Character description:
Cedany Bromschild is a mild 5’5, when she holds her head high. Her skin is a matte alabaster, sun-flecked only slightly on the bridge of her nose. Her irises are an unremarkable blue-gray. They circle, in stark contrast, to vacuumous black holes contained within them. She has dense, shoulder-length hair that she often keeps twisted in mousy-colored bun at the base of her neck. Her eyes are softly lidded and rather delicate on her face. During long nights on the job, she is prone to developing a flushed complexion and shadows under her eyes. Her lips are pale mauve and form a pretty line to separate a feminine chin from a defined jawline.
Her figure is light but not weak. She has supple fingers fringing callused hands that reveal a laborious farmhand upbringing. Her physiognomy is very pleasant overall. She covers her figure with traditional garb. A loosely-bound corset and a cotton dress, usually with her sleeves pushed up past her elbows. Her posture is nothing resembling a wilting bloom and projects a countenance whose visage is much more intimidating than her own. She can stand toe to toe with a fully grown man and somehow appear the same height.
-Character personality and traits:
It’s not uncommon to see Cedany splattered with someone else’s blood. There’s not much that can spook her from an organic perspective. Her weaknesses lie in more social arenas. Possibly due to the fact that she stares at death on a daily basis, she has developed an inappropriately dark sense of humor. The control she is granted over the fates of others inspires her with the confidence to lead. Perhaps a little too bossy, she’s bothered many men with her unassuming delegation. She’s the type of woman that makes no apologies. Even though many may not like her abrasive nature, she commands a certain respect.
-Character biography :
Cedany has seen more than most when it comes to the insides of humans and animals. From a minor toothache to the amputation of gangrenous limbs, she was called upon more out of necessity than of her own volition. As a young girl on her father’s farm, she found security with the animals. They were more mild-mannered than her five brothers and had a greater sense of self-preservation. One morning, her father awoke her from sleep to assist him in the delivery of a foal. The foal had twisted itself in such a way as to prevent any hope of a proper delivery and as the mother bled out, a twelve year-old Cedany cried and begged her father to do something. Instead he handed her a knife and told her put it out of its misery. Aiming to teach her a lesson, he left her alone with the bleating mare. As the poor mother slipped into silence, Cedany was overcome with a sense of calm. She held the blade against the still belly of the mare and cut. The next morning, when her father came back to the barn to check on his daughter, he found her curled in the hay next to a feeble, hungry, but very alive baby horse. The gruesome evidence of the night’s transgressions left hidden underneath old silage. It was that day that Brom realized his daughter was something very special and that to raise her to be nothing more than a farm girl was a great disservice to their home of Barkamsted. He swore to provide her with every tool at their disposal and she did not want for education.
At the age of 19, she was discovered by the handsome son of a wealthy merchant. He courted her for many months, encouraged by her apathy and fascinated by her intelligence. Cedany’s parents did everything they could to encourage an engagement for the security it would bring their family. Tragedy struck when the wealthy merchant found his gut pierced by the blade of an unsatisfied business partner. Cedany did everything she could to save her future father-in-law but her best was not good enough. She grievously broke the news to her lover, but the pain of loss broke something in their relationship. Resentment spoiled her for him and he left her to pursue another. It was a blessing in disguise for Cedany and her patients. She achieved a higher standard in her practice than ever before, almost transcending the capabilities of a non-magical healer. While still only a local practitioner, her clientele is growing and she fears it will eventually encompass most of Barkamsted. A heavy burden.

"Oi! Stop!" Cedany hikes up her skirt and attempts to rush after the urchin. While running, she notices he's got a bit of a limp and is landing more gingerly on his left side. People frantically try to move out of the way as she pushes past them. The money in that coin purse was provided by one of her patients, who desperately needed a salve for a festering cicatrix.
"Uderos curse you, Welp!" She yells after the boy. He giggles and turns a corner. She changes direction and heads down the nearest street. As she approaches the bottleneck, the child pops out simultaneously. He has the option to turn left or right. She opts for left and forces the boy to change direction. As he spins on his heel he loses his balance and lets out a yelp of pain, clutching his bum leg. She approaches him triumphantly.
You’re heading back to the city through the woods when you hear a whining coming from nearby. Around it is three smaller lumps of fur, obviously puppies belonging to the trapped mother. Without help, they’ll all die, but wolf skins are quite valuable too, not to mention that the nearby farms suffer quite a bit from the wolf population.
Cedany pulls out a vial of crystalline liquid. It's made from a plant that when distilled contains sedative properties. The wolf appears to be weak and must have been there for several days. She brings a bowl of fresh water to the creature and pours in high concentrations of the sedative. She sets the bowl on the ground and uses a stick to push it toward the mother, fearing to get too close. She waits until the wolf loses interest in her and laps up the water. The wolf sways on it's feet and after several minutes finally gives into sedation. With the threat of gnashing teeth and claws removes, she can free it's leg and dress the wound. She hopes the babies will remain safe for the hour or so it will take for the mother to regain consciousness, but she doesn't wait around to find out.

-Character name: Ehren Vaux
-Character race: Human
-Character age: 20
-Character Occupation (optional, note you still must talk to the lord about loaning or purchasing any stall/shop for your character if he/she would have one. Also be sure to give previous applications a glance before deciding your job, we don't need 5 bartenders!): Traveling hunter/Hunting merchant
-Character description(At least one to two paragraphs describing your character’s visual appearance.): Ehren stands at 186 cm and has a average body size with a bit of tone. His hair is medium length smooth silver, that match his gray colored eyes. He keeps a sullen plain look on his face, or sometimes a look of awareness. A dark brown hood, tattered at the edges, covers his silk like hair. For his body clothing he wears a dark green shirt with a brown vest covering it. He wears simple cotton black pants with leather boots. A leather gauntlet occupies his right hand, and his left bare.
-Character personality and traits (At least one to two paragraphs describing their personality traits and/or quirks.): Ehren is very observant, keeping note of his surroundings. He avoids getting into conflicts or situations, as he hates getting involved in tricky situations. If he is somehow involved he becomes a strategic thinker, using his observant skill to find a way to escape the situation. He usually keeps to himself and has the 'everybody for themselves' attitude. However, he can be cooperative with others if he is in a position where he needs to.
-Character biography (At least three paragraphs describing your character's history and experiences): Ehren Vaux grew up under the care of his father, as his mother died when giving birth to Ehren. They lived out in the wilds near Barkenstead. His father was a hunter who taught him how to be observant and how to survive while out on a hunt. While a child, he was pretty popular due to his hair and eye color, though to him he did not enjoy the attention and was mostly a self thinker. He started to become less popular over time because of his gloomy nature. He was alone, the only person he loved talking to and could talk to, was his father. Ehren had a close bond with his father, helping him get his gear ready or learning how to catch small animals. When he grew old enough to go on hunts, he went with his father.
When Ehren had grown to 16 his father had become ill and couldn't go on hunts with him anymore. Ehren had to take care of his father and provide food by hunting. He had learned how to take care of his father and providing for the both of them. At 18 his father had passed due to the illness, Ehren was devastated. He was now alone, having to hunt by himself. Having the knowledge of his father he would survive on his own, still living in the house in the wild. He occasionally went into the city to sell some of his catches or to buy supplies.
When he turned 19, he left the house in the wild to become a traveling hunter. He traded with others and traveled, setting up camp or staying at a inn. He keeps the memory of everything his father taught him, from what supplies he should keep on him, to trapping specific animals.

In an instant, I knew what just had happened.
I let out a small sigh and then began to bolt after the child, looking around to see if there is any faster routes to cut off the child. With my hunting experience I caught the child easily. Grabbing him by the arm, I reach out my other hand for him to hand over my coin purse.
I release my grip as he hands it over, the child then walks away with a sadden look on him. I let out a sigh.
"Come here" I call out to the kid.
The kid turns around and walks with a guilt towards me.
"Here, take this, but don't go pick-pocketing because it can be dangerous child."
I reach into my coin purse and pull out a few coins to give to the child, I know how its like to be in that position. I feel bad for the kid.
He takes the coin and runs off a bit and turns around.
"Thank you sir!" he shouts as he runs off.

As a hunter, I cannot take someones catch. The person who set the trap will most likely come back to it. "Nice catch, lucky to whoever caught that." I say to myself. I would continue to walk away,I feel bad for the pups, but it's life. When becoming a hunter, you have to understand that its for survival.

A solid app, as I believe it fits the bill. Your definitions are acceptable and I think that you have set up a nice character for the town of Barkamsted. It's perfectly fine if you don't want to give your Skype name, we only use it to add you to the Saphriel Server Chat. If at any point you decided you would like to be added all you have to do is ask. Aside from his gluttony and selfishness, he's a fairly nice guy and can be alright to talk to. In fact, while he's not working he'll usually spend his time wandering around, or getting a bite to eat. Dagrul is also an avid drinker and can be found at the tavern oftenly. He is also just a little bit of a coward, often trying to avoid combat and situations where he could possibly get hurt.
-Character biography (At least three paragraphs describing your character's history and experiences): Dagrul was born a bastard, to a brothel maiden and a blacksmith. He got most of his physical attributes from his mother, such as his brown hair, his hazel eyes, and his round head. However, he got most of his father's personality and attributes. Such as his wielding and blacksmithing skill, gluttony, drinking addiction, and selfishness. Dagrul's father, Barkor, the unmarried blacksmith was low on funds and was forced to take one of two paths; give away his child so he didn't have to feed another mouth, or sell his cottage and move in to his workshop. Despite being a selfish person, Barkor found the kindness in his heart and sold his small cottage to pay for the child.
Most of Dagrul's childhood was spent listening to the pounding of hammers and melting of metal. The trade of blacksmithing began to grow on Dagrul as he was raised. Beginning at the age of 12, Barkor began teaching his son his trade. Not to mention, over the years Dagrul had gained an obsession for alcohol, starting at only age 16, for the drinks such as beer and mead.
Over the years, the struggle for money became more pressuring for Dagrul, because, over time, more blacksmiths had come afloat in Barkamsted. Better blacksmiths. He had to step up his game. But, alas, like his father, he'd also have to sell his house and move into the workshop. After expanding his workshop to have a few extra rooms for living, he'd had money left over. He used to it to buy improved tools and metal, better things to work with in general. To this day, Dagrul is determined to become as good as the other blacksmiths.
You have been robbed. Being the oblivious man he is, Dagrul doesn't notice until a good five or ten seconds later, when he reaches for the coin purse. He notices the small elven male running off with his coin purse as he stumbles after the child, but not catching up. "Ay! The lil' bitty munchkin took me money! Help!" He would be no match for the elven child's speed, as he runs to a guard, out of breath, giving a physical description of the child. Being the lazy son of a gun (sorry, if I posted it minecraftforum would just censor it anyway) he is, Dagrul could do nothing from here on out besides that the guards can do their job well enough.
As the selfish dwarf he is, Dagrul would grab a small knife before trying to skin the wolf. After the wolves yelp at him, he tries to ignore them, before a wolf bites him in the arm. He cries out "Aaagh!" and runs off, dropping his knife in the proccess. Dagrul, being terrified of getting into combat and possibly dying, flees back to town. Point of this story? Dagrul is a coward.
Also, I refuse to hop on this magic bandwagon. Dagrul will not be a mage anytime soon.
Other than a grammatical error here and there, the problem with this application is the backstory. It starts out well enough, but quickly degrades after the halfway point. Even if it is boring, expanding on the backstory has a much greater impact on the way your character interacts with the world than just saying nothing of interest happened. It could be something as simple as the struggle to get enough money for his own workshop and cottage. As you said, dead parents are cliche and do not have to persist for an acceptable backstory, but stating nothing of interest happened and writing half a backstory doesn't exactly cut it. We appreciate your first attempt and will allow you two more to fix anything we see wrong with your application. You may either edit your current post or post a new one and your application will be reconsidered.

-Do you have any prior roleplay-related experience, if so could you give an example?
Yes, I do have previous roleplay experience. I’ve been in a number of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, both in-person and over things like skype. I’ve also had some experience with forum based roleplay, and a few Minecraft servers.
-Define Power-gaming in your own words:
Power-gaming – Giving your character powers far above or beyond the amount that they have actually earned capacity for. For example, your two day old character can blow up a mountain with his mind. Also, controlling another character’s actions directly without giving them an opportunity to respond or defend themselves. For example “I crush your character’s ribs and you bleed out and die.”
-Define Meta-gaming in your own words:
Meta-gaming – Letting information obtained OOC alter your character’s actions IC. For example, your DM accidentally slips up and mentions a trap in the next room of your dungeon. You then decide to make your usually reckless and curious character avoid this room for the sake of caution.

-Character name: Syralei Arrynlocke
-Character race: High Elf
-Character age: 32
-Character Occupation (optional, note you still must talk to the lord about loaning or purchasing any stall/shop for your character if he/she would have one. Also be sure to give previous applications a glance before deciding your job, we don't need 5 bartenders!):
Student. Throughout her educational background Syralei displayed profound interest in pre-war cultures and technologies. She was admitted onto a specialized team of student archeological researchers based on the merits of her study and her genuine passion to discover lost knowledge. Syralei’s specific role is to travel to assigned locations with her team and investigate pre-war ruins (most old, some very old) for information ranging from lost culture to medicine and magical artifacts. The information obtained from these digs is generally returned to the educational body and then distributed for peer-review before being released to the public or military. She aspires to make a discovery so large and important that it will be a primary contributing factor to the uprising of the people of Barkamsted against the enemy forces oppressing them.
-Character description (At least one to two paragraphs describing your character’s visual appearance.):
Syralei stands on the very low end of the spectrum as far as height in High Elves is concerned. Though her frame is shorter than average it is still definitively High Elven in many other ways. Her skin tone is very normal, being the fair peach common among her people. Eyes and hair, pastel tints of brown and blue respectively.
In times of field research she is generally seen wearing practical brown robes of various design and flat sandals or low-heeled boots. Her hair may be tied in a side-braid or a high bun. While she is on the field her soft body tends to develop slight amounts of definition over time, her fair skin becoming somewhat sun kissed as well. During long stretches of at-home study she tends to take the opportunity to pamper herself, bathing in perfumed oils and reveling in the comforts of home. She favors loose fitting and light dresses, with shoes that help to make up for her small height. Any jewelry she wears is usually inspired by the fashions of the people she studies, in interest of their culture.
-Character personality and traits (At least one to two paragraphs describing their personality traits and/or quirks.):
Aloof and soothing, Syralei always wears a casual smile that brings comfort to those around her. She has a tendency to stay level headed and calm in situations that many would consider to be stress-inducing and serious, sometimes to the dismay of her family and colleagues. Despite her cool exterior Syralei is a very competitive perfectionist, determined to succeed and look humble while doing it. She can be fiercely competitive in her field, and has a fiery passion for the work she does. An important factor in her drive is her loyalty to her friends and family, both of whom she desires to improve the lives of, in her own way.
-Character biography (At least three paragraphs describing your character's history and experiences):
Born to a mother and father who were both direct refugees of the war, Syralei spent much of her childhood safe within the walls of Barkamsted. Her father, who witnessed the atrocities of combat first hand, had an authoritative stance about her leaving the safety of the city. Naturally this fostered a flame of curiosity in the child, though few could have predicted how large it would grow. She spent many of her younger years bonding with her older brother Corinaith as well as her classmates; in doing so she learned the values of strong bonds between friends and family. Having such a voracious appetite for lectures in subjects such as history and literature meant that her companions were often blasted with random facts and intricate tales of times past.
When Syralei reached the age of 15, Corinaith returned from a rescue mission to escort refugees into the city in bad condition. His spine had been crushed just below the neck, and his body was supported by only by his brothers in arms who carried him in despair. As it followed, he would never sit up on his own again, paralyzed from the neck down. Grieving for her brother, Syralei helped in the way she best knew how. The stories she told him trickled in slowly at first, and eventually developed into epic tales as she scoured books for more material. Every moment she spent in study turned into an opportunity for her to bring a piece of the outside world home to her beloved brother. As it happened, she found that she was dually rewarded with his happiness and the praise of her professors.
As she aged, her continuous success in academia opened opportunities to her that many would covet. Her student writings were several times prize winning material, granting scholarships and invitations to speak to crowds of her peers. When the time came for her to pursue higher education she knew the exact fields she desired to be accepted into and dove into them without looking back. Although an entire new world of information had opened up to her, her lust for discovery was no longer satisfied by pen and paper. Against the will of her father she applied to several special student programs involved in field work outside of the safety of the city. She faced much opposition at home from both of her parents, which may have deterred her if not for the support of Corinaith.

The elven woman turned her gaze upon the child just quickly enough to see the back of his frame ducking and weaving down the street through crowds of people. Her mouth fell open for a moment as she patted the spot where her coin pouch once hung. Then, with a smirk, she lifted her hands to her mouth and called out, “A reward to the person who catches that boy who stole my purse!” She pointed in the direction of the darting child, waiting for an eager citizen to take her up on her offer.
You’re heading back to the city through the woods when you hear a whining coming from nearby. Syralei turned her head away from the sight and continued to shuffle past it, clutching her journal tightly to her chest. A scene such as this tended to make her very uneasy, and the best thing she could think to do was ignore it. Interfering with the course of nature seemed an unwise decision, and was frequently warned against in her teachings. Wolves are dangerous animals after all, especially when frightened.
Only fill out if you want your character to have magic capabilities. If you do not fill this out then your character will be incapable of performing any form of magic. Also note that it will take significant in character practice and experience to become any form of proficient in magic.
-Describe to us why you wish for your character to have magical capabilities:
For starters, having the capacity for magical ability tends to be the norm for her race by about 80%. But beyond that, the ability to use magical artifacts would greatly enhance the depth and informational value of her research. It seems almost natural to me that a character such as Syralei would be able to use magic; I would consider her quite stifled without it. (Although I suppose that might make for an interesting role play point, but it isn’t a path I’d like to take her down.) Plus, the ability to use magic would simply make roleplay that much more enjoyable for me by providing a goal to work towards IC.
-Please give an example in your own words describing the limitations placed upon those who use magic:
Characters with the ability to use magic must work very diligently to train their energies in order for them to become more powerful. Similar to going to a gym to work out your muscles, the amount of magical energy you are able to channel through magic artifacts increases with practice. If a character overexerts themselves magically speaking they are likely to cause self-harm in forms ranging from exhaustion to loss of consciousness or even death. Magic trinkets of a weak variety are also likely to shatter or otherwise break if too much magical energy is pumped through them.
-Please give a simple description of the magic system in your own words:
The magic system in Saphriel is artifact based. Characters can find and obtain magical artifacts in a variety of ways and channel energy through them to make use of their effects. There are at least two factors that limit the power of magic effects in the game, one being the strength of the artifact itself, and the other being the magical strength of the character.
-You are given a very basic trinket of fire, you haven't had much practice with magic yet, but you will try your best. Describe some things you could/would do with this trinket:
(This is all just an example, not something that actually happened in her past.)
Researcher’s Journal Entry Day 13
I write this entry with great glee and anticipation, for on today, the 13th day of our second expedition a small segment of our research group left camp to examine a burned town site not far from the dig that we were assigned to. From the ruined town we managed to retrieve a slew of interesting objects, one of which appears to be a rudimentary magical trinket of some sort found in what we believe once was an alchemy house. None of us are quite sure how to operate the thing, but perhaps we may find out in time. S. Arrynlocke
Researcher’s Journal Entry Day 14
It has been to my great disappointment that none of our members have been able to make use of the mysterious trinket. Perhaps some sort of elaborate forgery has taken place here, well enough to fool the trained eyes of our entire team. My fears lead me to wonder if perhaps I do not have the innate talent for magic required to perform such a feat. S. Arrynlocke
Researcher’s Journal Entry Day 17
It strikes me as amusing that I should be making this entry now, on the last night of our assigned time to this dig. It happened as an afterthought, while I rest wearily after a long day of cleaning and packing up my work. I absent mindedly began to play with the trinket without any real hope of activating it. How ironic, that such a casual thing could lead to such an important moment of discovery for me, but I must say it. Eureka! The flame I managed to create was small and short-lived, but perhaps the most precious of my life. I will remember it fondly as the small spark that led to a brilliant and ardent flame of opportunity for me. As of this moment I have only managed to create a fire large enough to warm a cup of tea, but my next hope is to boil a whole pot. S. Arrynlocke
A very well written application. I believe my favorite part of it is the way you set up the fire trinket scenario at the end, I quite enjoyed it. I'll be sending you a Skype request momentarily to add you to the server group and we look forward to seeing you on the 24th!

I appreciate you expanding on your backstory slightly and writing it in a more acceptable manner. You will be added to the Skype group and we look forward to seeing you on the 24th!

-Do you have any prior roleplay-related experience, if so could you give an example?:
I have extensive Dungeons and Dragons experience. Previous to this application, I was a member of the minecraft server Lord of the Craft. Additionally, I've been the dungeon master for multiple D&D campaigns, and I am currently the host of my school's club.
-Define Power-gaming in your own words:
Abusing either in-game mechanics or OOC mechanics in order to get an advantage over a character or a group of characters. I also consider power-gaming to be just making a character far more overpowered when compared to everyone else, as it sort of ruins the game for the other players.
-Define Meta-gaming in your own words:
Meta-gaming is the use of information that a player might have, but not the character that the player is playing. For example, if my character was unknowingly charging head-first into a bandit camp, but I myself knew about the camp, if I was meta-gaming I would suddenly decide to go somewhere else.

-Character name:
Garrum
-Character race:
Dwarf
-Character age:
42
-Character Occupation:
Woodcrafter/lumberjack
-Character description:
Garrum is a stout dwarf with an unusually scarred face. His hair is dark orange, and his beard goes down to to his abdomen. He nearly always keeps his hammer with him, despite it's crude and broken appearance. He wears a small green cap, and his armor is generally well-kept. Even for a dwarf, Garrum is remarkably muscular. On occasion, perceptive travelers have noticed that there is an abundance of wood shavings in his beard. Garrum tends not to notice, as he enjoys the smell of fresh-cut pine.
-Character personality and traits:
Compared to other dwarves, Garrum is fairly quiet. He tends to ask questions that don't appear to pertain to the subject being discussed. Many of Garrum's friends consider him to be a bit odd, but he is easily liked. Garrum's most notable oddity is his speech impediment. Garrum is unable to talk in the first person except for when he introduces himself. While this can make Garrum seem to be simple-minded, he's actually fairly bright. He tends to prefer the company of his well known acquaintances than that of strangers.
-Character biography:
Garrum has always been different. It took Garrum many moons to learn the way of speech. Though Garrum is by no means stupid, Garrum may seem that way to many who visit with him. Garrum is a straight-to-the-point kind of dwarf; his father always told him "Drink yer' mead, Garrum, er ye won't grow up an' be strong like yer' pa," Garrum understood his fathers' point perfectly, and he indulges in his drink whenever he gets the chance. But Garrum also drinks to forget his past, not just because he remembers it.
When Garrum was just a wee boy, not yet able to stand, an earthquake had caused debris to fall on top of him. His mother found him hours later with a fractured skull and many lacerations. The lead medical dwarves declared that he wouldn't survive to drinking age. Garrum's father disagreed, "He'll live, just ye' watch. He'll be walking long after ye've been buried with 'er ancestors." Garrum recovered within a week, but his head would never be the same. His forehead slumped forward slightly, causing his eyelids to appear to be half-closed. Rather than go through surgery, Garrum's father decided that Garrum looked better with his scars anyway. How Garrum misses his father.
One day, the cavern Garrum lived in began to cave in. Garrum was once again pinned under a rock. With the help of his friends, they rolled the boulder off of Garrum, but his legs were badly dislocated. Unable to carry him, they abandoned Garrum. They cherished their belongings more than Garrum. Garrum, however, refused to give up. Garrum manually relocated his legs, despite being in great pain. Blood vessels inside of Garrum's legs had begun to hemorrhage, and Garrum knew that he had little time. Unable to find his parents, Garrum grabbed his trusty hammer Craig and left for the surface.
Shortly after entering into the sunlight, Garrum passed out from his internal hemorrhages. Garrum was in a coma for three days before he awoke. Garrum had miraculously survived, but Garrum was very hungry. Knowing that Garrum was in ogre country, Garrum went out to look for an Ogre den. Garrum found a group of three Ogres, and Garrum formulated a plan to steal their food and mead. He would wait until they were sufficiently intoxicated, and then Garrum would terrify them with a dwarvenly roar. The plan worked better than he expected, and one of the Ogres died out right. Atleast that's how Garrum remembers it. Regardless, Garrum was able to eat the meat the food they had, and then Garrum continued on his
journey.
Garrum eventually arrived at a seaside inn near Barkamsted, and he plans on leaving on the next fishing vessel. Where Garrum will go, no one knows. Garrum will never forget his home, but Garrum must move on.
Now Garrum grows tired. Garrum does not wish to talk anymore, maybe tomorrow. There will be ale if god wills it, aye.
(As Garrum nods off, a thief snatches up Garrum's one and only prized possession: his hammer, Craig.)

Garrum notices that the child who robbed him was very clearly hungry. He mumbles to himself, "Poor child. Garrum was like him once, aye, hungry an' starvin'. Better the coin for the child than fer' Garrum." Garrum heads back to his cottage, still worrying for the boy who took from him.
You’re heading back to the city through the woods when you hear a whining coming from nearby. Garrum has always had a deep respect for the wildlife of the world. He would never forgive himself if he let the animal die defenseless. Garrum decides that he'll release the animal, and should it attack him, he'll fight back. At least it will be a fair fight. However, when he releases the mechanism on the trap, the wolf rushes off into the underbrush. Garrum does not consider the consequences of his small act, and he feels content with his decision.
Garrum will be accepted, but Garrum should be a little more careful with Garrum's backstory, it was lacking just a little and I hope Garrum really does not plan to head out on a fishing ship, Garrum probably won't find anything but a lot of ocean. my mouth drops, shocked a young child would steal my hard earned money.
-Character name: Andor Fessal
Upon further investigation you come across a grey-colored wolf that appears to have its leg caught in a bear trap. Around it is three smaller lumps of fur, obviously puppies belonging to the trapped mother. Without help, they’ll all die, but wolf skins are quite valuable too, not to mention that the nearby farms suffer quite a bit from the wolf population.
(We only accept high quality magic applications!)
_______________________________________________________________________

-Character age:
20
-Character Occupation (optional, note you still must talk to the lord about loaning or purchasing any stall/shop for your character if he/she would have one. Also be sure to give previous applications a glance before deciding your job, we don't need 5 bartenders!):
Traveling hunter/Hunting merchant
-Character description(At least one to two paragraphs describing your character’s visual appearance.):
Ehren stands at 186 cm and has a average body size with a bit of tone.
-Character personality and traits (At least one to two paragraphs describing their personality traits and/or quirks.):
Ehren is very observant, keeping note of his surroundings.
-Character biography (At least three paragraphs describing your character's history and experiences):
Ehren Vaux grew up under the care of his father, as his mother died when giving birth to Ehren.

"Nice catch, lucky to whoever caught that."

-Character race: Dwarvish.
-Character age: 45
-Character Occupation (optional, note you still must talk to the lord about loaning or purchasing any stall/shop for your character if he/she would have one. Also be sure to give previous applications a glance before deciding your job, we don't need 5 bartenders!): Blacksmith.
-Character description(At least one to two paragraphs describing your character’s visual appearance.): Dagrul is a short, stumpy, pudgy little man standing at about 4'5 and weighing about 210 pounds. His face is round and fat. He has hazel eyes and long, brown, unkempt beard which reaches to his navel, as well as short brown hair that is usually covered by his hornless viking helmet. He usually wears rusty velvet that is worn and teared all over the place.
-Character personality and traits (At least one to two paragraphs describing their personality traits and/or quirks.): Dagrul is a selfish man, going to extreme measures to make himself the extra coin.
-Please give us a short RP response to these two scenarios. (At least one paragraph for each.)

Suddenly you feel a gentle lifting of your coin purse as a child graces you and soon after they take off sprinting.

You have been robbed.
(We only accept high quality magic applications!)
_______________________________________________________________________
