We offer serious, matureroleplay survival in a realistic dark fantasy world inspired by the lore of Fall from Heaven II. We have 4 main races with MCMMO and Heroes offering 129 possible tier6 combinations of race dependent combat classes and 3 tier6 professions. For a settlement to be self-sufficient it only needs 3 characters with the tier8 professions: Enchanter, Engineer and Forgemaster! Our extensive plugin set offers heroes, mcmmo, conquestiamobs, mcmmo, towny, craftbook, ships, a precious things economy and many more realism enhancing features. We also have a trusted rank system offering perks for our most dedicated players, who rankup though playing, voting and/or donating.
On March 10 we have opened a dream world for all to join called Somnium during alpha. On June 6th we declared beta phase and on September 21st we launched a new and bigger (16k*16k!) carefully selected vanilla seeded map for Somnium. Check out our website:
... where you can register. If your website registration is not completed, you will only be able to join with the rank 'Entity'. That rank allows only for very limited interaction, like: no breaking or building.
Somnium is the world where you all (Souls) can enjoy the experience of our plugin set and the enlightening presence of the other community members, moderators (Guardians) and administrators (Seraphs). All players will start in a spawn town, Astarte, on Somnium.
On Sept. 21st we launched a new Somnium Vanilla seeded map of 16k*16k! ... and much of Somnium is still uncolonized (Dec. 10th). Players that haven't played since before Sept. 21st haven't lost anything. Their characters can stuff their inventories with all their valuables and do /spawn to start in the new Somnium world. New features were added to Somnium too! Like levelled mobs and Nemed Memorial Hospital in Astarte, where all characters can recover from their injuries ... and seize the opportunity to roleplay with others.
We are creating a huge (32k*32k!) custom designed map for our mortal world Vesperus.
Vesperus will be whitelisted and requires a dedicated character bio. Whitelisted players (Mortals) wil be allowed to travel there through Nemesis. Somnium will not be disbanded and will remain non-whitelisted and a training ground for both roleplay and survival.
We are still looking to strengthen our staff team. If you feel you could add to DawnFire Realms, either apply for a position as Aide (builder or in-game helper) or send a pm to a Seraph in case you're interested in helping out with coding, graphics or our wiki.
LORE
Welcome to the DawnFire Realms, Lost Soul of Erebus
While the nations of Erebus recovered from the harsh era of stasis during the Age of Ice, Ceridwen answered Mulcarns appeal to the evil gods as he passed through her indefinite vault after his defeat by Kylorin. Determined to avenge her former protégé, she invoked a cataclysmic event, creating a interdimensional rift that partially absorbed Creation. Sentient souls are caught in this rift. They experience seemingly immortal lives in a dreamscape called Somnium. Eventually, substance taken from Erebus will form a reflection of Erebus, Vesperus. Dagda, guardian of the Compact, intervenes in this process by creating a separate vault, Nemesis, to salvage and protect what Ceridwen took from Creation. Some day the Rift will release all souls and they will be guided to Vesperus through Nemesis, and find their new mortal home.
Somnium is considered a dream world. Somnium provide a home to all characters taken from Erebus, travelling through the Rift, as long as Vesperus is not released.
There's much more to our lore as it is derived from Fall from Heaven II, a reknown multimillion-copied mod for Civilization IV.
THE REALMS
SOMNIUM - A non-whitelisted starting world for all players where almost all plugins and gameplay rules are active, except our dedicated character death thingie. Roleplay rules will be a little less strict. - Somnium has its own player-made lore and is a free-to-build survival world. - Four main races: Human, Elf, Dwarf and Orc. Heroes combat class tier1 determines your race. Players will have to select their race here, also for Nemesis and Vesperus. Choose carefully! - By definition we use the term 'knockout' when a steve's health bar reaches zero and MC announces death. Character death is decided upon by either the player or staff. Character reroles require an approved new char bio. - It offers a place to play while Nemesis and Vesperus are being set up. It will not be disbanded after launch of Vesperus and players can forge new nations and add dedicated Somnium-based lore. Only restriction is that all characters must have a background on Erebus, whence they came. - Astarte, Somniums spawn town, holds a Nether Portal and eventually will also hold a portal to Nemesis, accessible for all (whitelisted) Mortals.
NEMESIS - This is where Dagda and Cassiel receive the Mortals that emerge from the Rift and prepare them for their new life on Vesperus. - Open for Mortals and higher ranked players. The Mortal rank is acquired after approval of a whitelist application for Vesperus. The whitelisting procedure has not formally started yet. It will commence when Vesperus launch is announced. - Nemesis is a small world with portals to the capitals of the nations on Vesperus. It will hold additional tutorial information and possibly a few minigames later on. - No Nether portal. One End portal, to be set-up later as soon as a lore-based event has announced its creation. - A portal that allows Mortals to return to Somnium.
VESPERUS - The mortal main world, where players make new Vesperus lore. - Our server lore connects both history and future of the world and the characters to the lore of Erebus, the world of Fall from Heaven II. - Somnium characters can be 'restarted' on Vesperus. - Five starting nations: Grigori, Doviello, Ljosalfar, Khazad and the Clan of Embers. Others may rise from the peoples that enter from The Rift, who may wish to rebuild the shattered nations of Erebus they were forced to leave, or found completely new ones. - Characters gain hardiness from levelling up, but lose hardiness at each knockout and from aging. Characters eventually die when their hardiness drops below zero. - Nether portals and portals to Nemesis in each Nation capital.

With the ability to create your own character's backstory through the process of a character bio on the forum, you can create a savage warlord, or a peaceful wizard. If you join us on Dawnfire Realms, i assure you that you WILL have tons of fun.
We added HolographicDisplays today and implemented a lot of holograms in Astarte, the spawn town and central trading and roleplay city on Somnium. This helps both new and veteran players to recognize main features and find their way, and each other, in Astarte.
Although we already have a huge community, we still welcome new players, especially adults / mature roleplayers!
Current player attendance has increased again in last few weeks as more and more 18+ yo players join.
Please be aware that playing on Somnium offers excellent training for:
- the strict roleplay (+pvp) we aim for and
- the pretty hard and intense pve survival we offer.
All experience the community gains while playing on Somnium is used for our epic mortal world Vesperus. On Vesperus roleplay (+pvp) will be even stricter, and the pve survival more intense, a.o. because of the character aging, hardiness and death mechanisms we will introduce there.
In last 8 hours we had 10-15 players on continuously, on average. This link http://minecraftservers.org/server/125615
has stats info with the long term average player attendance since alpha launch in March 2014 (orange line) and actual hourly averages (in blue). We ended in the top 30 hotlist rp servers on PMC each month since March. So, people play @ DFR I guess.
Bump, and some additional info on our classes system and on the way we deal with PVP:
We use Heroes to define combat classes (primary heroes class system) and professions (secondary heroes class system). The first combat class tier is the race of a character.
We have 6 tiers of combat classes that are all tailored for each race, with each race having one special class and some classes excluded.
We have 6 tiers of professions too. As noted above you only need 3 characters (players) to eventually unlock all skills required for a self-sufficient settlement.
Here's the basic schemes that indicate the dependencies for the combat classes and professions:
Note that the classes are not predominantly designed for pvp purposes, but to support character development, and for fun!
PVP is not often witnessed and mostly involves well planned actions by characters in roleplay situations. These may concern individual actions or war between clans/towns/nations (we have a Towny war system). Characters that are knocked out in PVP are not by definition declared dead. Only the creator or the divine executioners (Admin ranked players) decide on life or death of a character on Somnium.
On Vesperus we will add a little extra twist to the character death mechanism.
The 1.8 Spigot server is being tested with the upgraded TerrainControl plugin for Vesperus test generation. Also almost all of the great number of plugins we're using for Somnium. Seems the only one we're still missing is Heroes ... *crossed fingers for that one to upgrade to 1.8 asap ... or realizes the DFR team may have to do it themselves*
We installed a patch to ensure the holograms in Astarte are also visible for 1.8 client users.
Note that we do recommend to use a 1.7.10 client for optimal gameplay experience, combined with: Forge, Conquest resource pack (we also support MetaCycler for more exiting textures like bottles, crates, chains, younameit), Optifine, MorePlayerModels, DamageIndicatorsMod and one of the avialable MiniMaps. Check our main guide for more info on this: http://dawnfirerealms.net/link-forums/main-guide.50/
We're working on upgrading the Vesperus map to include all 1.8 blocks. We use TerrainControl and base our biomes on the examples provided by MySource. This has been updated to 1.8.
And a link to the video impression Tekaa92 made of one of our survival builds on Somnium-Alpha:
The build wasn't finished at the time of the recording and the community made quite a few bigger and more detailed builds, both on Somnium Alpha and on Somnium Beta ... yes: no gamemode 1!
This is just to give you an idea on what we expect from characters to build while roleplay-survivaling in our realms.
And highlighting yet another one of our features: character knockout!
We don't speak of 'I got killed' in ooc chat, but we say 'Draug got knocked out'.
Through a knockout characters keep their inventory, lose a level of their profession class and are charged a small fee to pay for the divine services of item recovery and hospitalization. After a knockout, characters automatically teleport to Nemed Memorial Hospital to recover from their injuries.
The injury recovery process is dependent on the cause of knockout: falling unconscious has a different recovery trajectory than suffocation or a wither knockout. In all cases slowness, weakness and mining fatigue are part of the process. Blindness, nausea, hunger and poison may also occur.
Players are free to teleport to any location they can use directly after they are hospitalized. Yet, they are encouraged to stick around and roleplay with others while their character safely recovers ... the minions of the Fallen Gods avoid Astarte.
Another bump, and a little explanation on our trusted rank and donator system.
We use the Autorank plugin to register each players in-game time. This is the basis for our trusted ranks. Next to playing time, players can gain more 'trusted rank stats / time' from voting or donating. Each vote for DFR on one of the five server lists adds 30 minutes to a players stats. Each dollar spent in our website store adds 1 hour.
The trusted ranks are:
Squire upon registration Baron at 24 h, unlocks /recipe, /mail send and SignShop creation Viscount at 80 h, unlocks /t new Earl at 176 h, unlocks /me and all remaining town commands Marquis at 320 h, unlocks /n new and /party create (mcmmo: meant for nation level xp sharing) Duke at 520 h, unlocks /hat, /fireworks and join full server and all remaning nation commands
Each rank unlocks more commands than stated here. The list is long.
Players also get an in-game money (M = Mathoms) bonus upon promotion: 1000 M at promotion to Baron, 1200 when achieving Viscount, 1400 @ Earl, etcetera.
Our donator ranks and perks are:
Gold @ 10 USD for 1600 M, 30 glowstone and permission to build ships and cannons. Diamond @ 20 USD for 4000 M, 70 glowstone and permission to build ships, airships and cannons. Emerald @ 40 USD for 9600 M, 160 glowstone and permission to build ships, airships, heavy airships and cannons.
And some more info on our combat classes in relation to our pve challenges:
The minions of the Fallen Gods become stronger the farther characters venture out of the spawn cities (Astarte on Somnium, 5 premade capitals under construction for Vesperus). We use Conquestiamobs to realize this.
The base level monsters (lvl1) your character will encounter around Astarte are formidable foes for any untrained / unexperienced Fighter. Fighter is the tier1 combat base class. Each player is supposed to select a starting tier1 class instead: Human, Elf, Dwarf or Orc. Starting from there, these sentient humanoids level up as they earn experience from combat with monsters, animals and other characters and from using active skills (Heroes spells). As they level up, their health, mana power and combat strength increase, as does their arsenal of passive and active skills.
For reference:
Tier 1 Human, Elf, Dwarf and Orc have a starting hp of 30.5, 27.5, 33.5 and 36.5. At tier 6 an elf may achieve 68 to 84 hp, dependent on the combat class type he chooses. An orc may end up with up to 102 hp.
Typical unenchanted melee weapon hit strength for a character is around 4 hp at starting level and may be as high as 17 hp for a mastered tier6 class.
A lvl 1 zombie has 64 hp and a hit damage of 8 hp. Monster hp, experience gain for the victor upon death of the monster and hit damage rise 5% for each 400 blocks away from spawn. At 8000 blocks from spawn, your character will encounter lvl 20 zombies with 128 hp.
Come enjoy our intensive PVE survival and equally (in-)tense risks of engaging in roleplay motivated pvp!
As we learn from experience, we adapt our rule set on-the-go, to provide an ever-improving roleplay survival experience.
The Somnium world is non-whitelisted and this starting point can cause troubles with players who do not take roleplay seriously. Such players may choose to play a villain without being able to properly take into account the challenges connected to playing such a character. From recent events we learned that despite the fact that in many cases this is no unsurmountable problem, it may lead to unacceptable and very unpleasant situations, both ic and ooc. This is why we will implement the following rule for our character bio's:
No player is allowed to roleplay a 1st character with intrinsically evil (unscrupulous - anti-compassionate) or chaotic (anti-lawful) behavioural traits / phsycholigical profile. Such characters may only be played after a player has shown proper roleplay competences. Consequently, evil characters will require approval through the rerole procedure*.
We will add a simple alignment profile for characters to the character bio format. Alignment has two dimensions, based on two axes:
1) Conscience axis:
Measure to which compassion dominates rules of engagement
Scale: Compassionate - Pragmatic - Unscrupulous (Good-Neutral-Evil)
2) Organization axis:
Measure to which structure and planning dominate the way people pursue their goals
Scale: Lawful - Organic - Chaotic
Note that unscrupulous characters don't automatically engage in a killing spree. Neither does 'chaotic' mean the character won't be able to reason.
* Playing on Somnium with a first character doesn't require a character bio, but players are encouraged to eventually post one. A decent (not necessarily 'approved') 1st character bio is a prerequisite for rp pvp, theft and grief! A re-role does require approval of a second character bio.
Players will have to indicate in their character bio which combination of alignments is most applicable to their character.
For 1st characters we don't allow characters that are either 'Unscrupulous & Chaotic', or 'Unscrupulous' or 'Chaotic'. Players will first have to prove they're capable of playing a less erratic sentient humanoid, before they can be entrusted the power of roleplaying an Unscrupulous and/or Chaotic one.
Note that if a nation / civilization / society has an 'Unscrupulous' value system and a 'Chaotic' modus operandi, the people within that nation may still be predominantly 'Pragmatic' in their behaviour and 'Organic' in their ways. This especially holds for orcs of the Clan of Embers. Many players just assume these are like the orcs we've seen in the LOTR or Hobbit trilogies. They're wrong! The orcs on Erebus have a different background and unlike their Middle-Earth kin, they are not 'bred for a single purpose'.
And a callout to anyone capable and competent in the art ot java coding to join our gameplay and when interested, poke me or another Seraph for a position in our coding team!
