Paid 100$ to test different server providers. Out of all 5, only minecraftserver.net was the only one to be able to provide a stable New York host with lowest ping (lower than what I got on a pingtest from real powerful network test servers).
If you plan on hosting a multi-country server for cheap, this is the host.
Also the free SSD upgrade is quite nice.
The new york server is quite good if you plan on having Canadian/US/EU players.
There's other server providers that give away much more RAM but you get severely crippled by their bad lagg or have some sketchy work practices.
I also compared minecraftserver.net's pricing, and they have 25% lowered prices when it comes to RAM than the rest so take that into consideration (if you ignore some hosts.)
And there's no added pricing for having SSD (other providers will hassle you for twice the price just to be on SSD).
Thinking of a server for me and a few friends who are relativity new but would probably want to go for server wide mods in the future, and was wondering which plan would be best for that, as well as if it were possible to upgrade each plan as we go if we choose to?

It depends on the mods you wish to run on there if you contact us via our website we can work out the best plan for you!
Our prices might be a little higher than some other providers however this extra cost comes from a few factors.
1. We have been around since 2010 hosting Minecraft servers and as you can see we have 50+ pages of happy customers.
2. All hardware and our network is company owned, we don't resell servers from OVH or other budget providers.
3. We have multiple locations, a large number of staff members which are located in the US, Canada, UK and Australia to cover all times and provide top notch support for our customers.
Our pricing is based off of numbers realistic in being able to keep our business profitable while still being able to provide a solid service to all of our customers. I'd also disagree on our pricing being expensive, With our 25% off promo we provide here on the forums it's less than $6 per GB of ram. This is very cheap for the amount of service we provide our clients.
A few things people don't think about as well is other fee's such as PayPal / Credit card fee's along with control panel fee's.
PayPal normally will take $0.30+ 1.8% or more depending on how good of a discount you have with them. Then on top of this Multicraft fee's which when you host a larger amount you get more of a discount however say another 25 cents for that then staff wages, taxes, costs for equipment and network. At $2.50/GB that doesn't leave you really any room for profits.
Contact our sales via live chat or from our website and let us know what you plan on using it for how many players and if you plan on running mods or not and we'll help you get the best plan for you. It's also simple to upgrade if you need a larger plan so we always suggest starting out with a smaller plan to save some money.
Yes that explains a lot. Thank you. So how do those $2/GB stay in business then?
You're very welcome!
Sadly a lot of companies are no longer around most of those providers don't tend to last so long. One that we thought would stick around longer due to their parent company having a large amount of equipment shut down last month Minerack they stopped providing Minecraft hosting due to time and I'm sure also due to the lack of income from the $2/gb pricing it doesn't really leave room for income.
If you think about OVH has some of the lowest pricing for servers normally $175-200 for a 128GB system at $2/gb that's only $256 if you filled the server to the max which isn't suggested that on top of the fee's there is very limited room for growth. Most companies who do provide that low of a rate are a one man team or possibly two people.
Minecraftserver.net host for my minecraft server needs can't be beat. I have hosted with several other hosts and am happy that i came across Minecraftserver.net! I find the pricing, server service and the customer support above exemplary! Recently asked Support to be changed over to a Java 8 server from my Java 7. Was no problem for them and they got the job done with total efficiency! Not one issue! I have had other minecraft hosts that give excuse after excuse of why they can't or have problems with a transfer such as this.
Thanks to Jake and Shaun for making what i thought would be a headache, a pleasant surprise. My new Java 8 server up and running in no time! Minecraftserver.net is awesome
