My 10 year old son wants his own server and I'm contemplating getting an Mcprohosting server for him. However, I am a beginnger. How easy is this to use for a beginner? he wants a server where he can play mini games with his friends, things like hunger games, prison, skywars, creative. How hard would it be for me to learn to set something like that up for him through MCpro?
You can simply use plugins and set up arenas, etc. Plugins can be found through their multicraft Bukget or you can just upload them yourself via FTP
p.s how many people would be able to join i want it to be able to hold over 10000000s of people at a time would that be possible and i want it so any random strangers to be able to join using an ip would that be possibly or would it just be able to hold people i invite or only 3 people at a time and if so would it cost lots of money to have thousands of people on I'm a beginner please let me know anyone
pp.s would we be able to name it something like moody paradise cause my youtube MoldyCircle3 and i want it to do something like my youtube
ppps is it viruses
I am thinking of buying a server, but I had a couple questions, I am mostly interested in using the server for my self and at most 5 other people playing with Mod packs mostly from FTB. I was wondering how hard would it be to set it up with MCPro?
Really good server hoster, and I highly recommend it! Here are some pros and cons I had with them.
Pros:
-Lag free
-24/7 live-chat support
-Everything is easy to configure
Cons:
-Expensive
-The panel was down a few times a month
-Plugins folder wasn't showing, and no one knew how to fix it
Thats just a short overview of McProHosting, and it is one of my favorite minecraft server hosters, and I highly recommend it to people who are willing to spend the money. If you are looking for a cheaper server, this wouldn't be one of my top suggestions. Otherwise MCPH is awesome!
I've hosted with MCProHosting since Sep of 2013 and until recently I have been satisfied with them. Part of the reason I went with them is that I run a very beefy custom modpack and I figured that if they could support servers like Hypixel, they could probably run my pack. They were even good about working with me to increase the permgen setting on my server which was required for my pack to run.
During the 1+ year that I've been with them my server has run reasonably well. Somewhat laggy, but I partially blame my mod pack for that. Downtimes were minimal. When they did happen, tech support wasn't very helpful, but the issue was usually resolved within a day or two.
Now however, my server's node has been offline for over eight full days!! There was a scheduled maintenance on the 5th with a window of up to 6 hours. The announcement claimed we would be informed if it took longer. 2 DAYS passed! Finally an update told us that 4 of the nodes (one of which is the node my server is on) were having hardware trouble and that the others had been restored. Fast forward to today (the 13th) and the node my server is on is still down. Tickets to tech support and even a twitter comment yielded little more than "they are working hard to fix it". No eta. No useful information about what went wrong.
Needless to say this has been extremely frustrating and I've had to resort to purchasing hosting with another company in the meantime to keep my players occupied while I wait for my node to (hopefully one day) come back online.
My field is computers so I am sympathetic to issues that can arise unexpectedly. But what really gets me is the lack of useful information you can get from MCPH support. Here's a fictitious narrative as an example of what I would have likedto have seen from suport.
Me: "My node is still down, do you have any further information I can pass along to my players?"
Support: "I don't have that information, but I will look into it and get back to you later today"
*support goes and makes a call to the data center / manager / whoever knows what on earth is going on*
Support: "Sorry for the delay, it looks like the data center suffered a severe lightning strike that damaged several key pieces of equipment. Replacements have been ordered and we expect your node to be restored between x and y"
Me: "Thank you very much for looking into this. I'll let my players know what to expect."
Of course this isn't what you get right now. Right now you get a prompt and polite "They are working hard to fix it". Fast, yes. Helpful, no.
Would adopting a policy that makes the above fictitious narrative slow down ticket turnaround times? Yes.
Would it make me feel less like cattle being driven through the payment turnstyles? Yes!
When something is wrong with a server you have come to depend on, you want - not just someone to tell you "It'll be alright" - but also to tell you everything they can about what's wrong and what's being done to fix it. Just being told over and over that "they are working on it" does the opposite. It conveys that as a customer I'm not important enough for anyone to go out of their way to find me more information.
EDIT: After nine full days my server is finally back up. I apologize if I offended anyone at MCProHosting. They are a good hosting company, but the sentiments expressed above are heart felt. I believe if they are willing to work on policy and customer service they can go from a good company to a really great company. I hope my critique will be taken as constructive criticism and be seriously considered.
I have been a customer for 2+ years.
Today, for the 2nd time in 5 months, our server again received "world.corruption" "no disk space" errors spamming our console. Players data was being reset, files deleted, world corruption, etc. Just like last time I immediately submitted a support ticket [especially since at that time live support was terrible, and well... now they don't even exist] to get some answers on why this was happening once again. After 2 hours with no response to a "High" severity ticket, I ended up contacting Matt [The Co-Founder of MCPRO] via Twitter.
Matt replied:
As you can see, that was 5 Hours ago from when he was contacted. Nothing yet has been explained, no tickets have been answered.
My server continues to not work, my files are being removed, data wiped, players leaving.
All I am able to say to my players is that "I'm still waiting on a reply from the hosting company." "I am unsure of what is happening".
People are patiently waiting and the server has just been slowly eating itself alive for the past 6, almost 7 hours.
Also please note that our disk space usage is not high.
Current server stats:
3.92 GB < on disk
15,452 files total
What console has looked like for the past 7 hours:
Ticket Response:
After 9 hours of the server not functioning, player/plugin data being wiped, and the server overall not running correctly, I would expect more from them. This right here shows me that I, as a customer, am not appreciated by this company.

Why are you guys so expensive? DO NOT SAY it's because we have premium support blah blah blah or premium hardware because other hosts have better hardware with lower prices.

Glad to hear you're enjoying our platform!
Very nice, I used to host a couple years ago. Very nice host.
"We should fix that window..." *SLAP* "We fix it when we get there. Now keep typing on that minecraft game.."
