Who am I?
A server admin of a popular server who is always looking to find the best server host for quality and price.
Where were we before?
We had a stint at Go-Networks until leaving for BroHoster and then finally Jestservers.
We left Go-Networks because the customer support was bad. We left BroHoster as the quality and customer support began to diminish.
What do we look for in a host?
-Performance
-FTP
-Server CPanel (Something that provides automatic restarts.)
-Customer Service
-Reliability
Positives of JestServers:
+ Customer Service
Jest is very easy to get a hold of and provides fast response time. This is what keeps me happy to be here.
+ Performance
The performance is very good. We always have great uptime and low latency. We run about 35+ plugins with an average population of 15ish.
Here is our minestatus which shows our uptime. It would probably be 99.99 but we do automatic restarts (10-15 seconds) and restarts to update plugins (1 minute).
+ Cater to your needs
Jest will really cater to your needs and help you obtain what you want. He's installed RemoteToolkit for me so we have automatic restarts because thats the only thing we really need in a cpanel.
Negatives of JestServers:
- Cost $$$
These servers are pretty expensive. Our 4GB server costs $156.33 a month by saving money to pay quarterly. That's pretty expensive considering that money could probably get you a dedicated server with about 6-8GB of ram. But then again, that money at another host never promises quality. It's a risky situation.
Overall
If you're willing to pay for the performance, Jestservers is right for you.
If anyone is interested in a VPS (Xen so all resources are dedicated) pm or contact me.
They'll be starting at 2GB of dedicated RAM with 1 Core at 2.53-2.8Ghz for about $70 a month. 4GB and 2 Cores would be $140 and so on. http://ark.intel.com/products/47924 for the processors.
Awesome I/O as well with RAID 10.
32GB DDR3 on the server, with 28GB available to allocate to servers.
Good option for those who want full control over the OS and more.
Question: Can I get a pure vanilla server, and then install Bukkit on my own?
If not, will you configure plugins to my specifications as needed, or will I have to do it on my own?
If so, will I be able to get support, even if I have done this?
On the vanilla servers, Runecraft is the only mod available to run(via a one click install).
It is not priced to handle the CPU usage of other plugins.
With the Mods package, Craftbukkit, Vanilla, RemoteToolkit, and other popular mods are available from a drop down menu.
Anything you need help with, we can help with. Plugins can be uploaded via ftp or using the file manager.
If a plugin gives you a lot of headaches, you can link it to us and we'll take care of it.

Guess that means I can't be cheap :smile.gif:
I can already tell that Jest will be reliable with the quickness of your response. Now, I have a few more questions, but otherwise I believe I have made my choice.
1. These servers are designed to handle at least 24 players, right? (How much does dedication affect the number?)
2. Is there a way for me to see how the file manager/ftp works? I haven't found anything about a preview yet.
3. What is your late policy? I'm only a teenager, and will be basing this server on server donations only, as such I'd expect I will not get the amount of money that is needed on time.

1. Yeah, at the least any package should be able to handle that many players if nothing is majorly bugged (each update this can change of course in beta).
2. FTP is FTP, you can use any FTP client you'd like to connect with.
File Manager is web based, allowing you to zip and unzip files, upload files etc without dealing with a FTP client. I can help you learn both.
3. I think we're the most lenient anywhere. 7 days before suspension from non payment, in which you'll have 30 days(or more if you need) before the service is terminated and all due invoices removed. You don't have to worry about owing any fees on your server as well; no credit reporting or junk like that.

Thank you for this information, Kevin. I hope to order a server soon.
Im needing a server with ability to hold at least 20 people, plugins like mcMMO, anti griefer/Creeper/cuboid, Icomony, towny, just to name a few. Im on a budget of around $50 or less until I get a couple friends to help chip in. Gonna have donate options so ill be able to upgrade a couple months down the road. What would you suggest? Any help is must appreciated.

Currently the lowest priced Mods Package is $88 a month for 2GB(lots of room to grow after 20 people most likely).
After 1.8 pricing may change for the better depending on how the new Mod API works out(though the new higher sky limit could negate any optimizations made with 1.8 mods).

to bad the lowest you have is $88 I might be able to swing that, but I wont know for a couple weeks.
Yeah I would like to run a bukkit server with you with like a half gig or ram to a gig. Any change of a lower size server. I am looking to pay 10-30 dollars
Currently for the Mods Package 2GB is the lowest it goes.
When 1.8 releases this will hopefully change.
I also have virtual dedicated servers available in Chicago running Xen(dedicated resources 24/7) that will soon be sold for a lower price per GB, though it's not quite ready. If you'd like a free trial of it you can send an email here: http://main.jestservers.com/about/
VDS is something brand new to JestServers, and I don't feel right charging for it just yet as techs are still learning the setup.
I would like to purchase a simple 1GB Minecraft server from you, but the only option I see available at checkout is an $88 month package. Where can I find something smaller

EDIT: Can I use Bukkit on the mod-less package?
Currently we don't have the 1GB Mods package available due to cost of hosting it, hopefully 1.8 will fix this.
The mod-less package can not run Craftbukkit or other mods.
http://jesthosting.com/ has VPS Xen servers available starting at $69 if that's any interest to you.
KevinJ, is there some way i may be able to speak to you in real time? maybe msn or Skype? I'm interesting in buying a server but i have a few questions before i do.

I don't have any 1.5 plans available, however 1GB may be enough for 25 players(and 2GB for sure).
Were you wanting to run mods, or just vanilla SMP?
