For my part, I'm very busy with school + other activities, so I won't be on the server, but I'll be on here and on Steam/TS as much as I can.

I'm back from my trip to Scotland, time to get some work done, look forwards to seeing a build contest being announced soon(ish)!

Well guys, I'll keep this short, but the essential message is that I'm leaving the Circle of Magi.

There are a few reasons why I'm leaving this clan after almost three years of being in it (it has been fun!). First off, I have some doubts about the current Arch-Magi, their intentions, motivation, and loyalty to the clan. From experience, as soon as sh*t gets tough, they abandon the ship and come back when somebody has fixed the mess. I'm not going to point fingers at people so we get another flame thread, and don't try to respond with ill intentions either.

I've hold trough with this clan for a long time, been with it's ups and downs, been inactive and so on, but I've always stayed a member. Up until now.
From what I've seen, the trend is that we get a new map. Great, we get a new fresh start at everything. We build a city, kind of semi-finished that nobody is really living in, and then the map get reset. Repeat. It's just not fun anymore. But, now we got this new clan server going, I could imagine that this would be fun. Decleration of war on the other clans, competing in fun events that would reward the clan. I could get that that would be fun. But again, it's rare that we get these events, and when we do, I don't want to be in a clan that is rarely on at all when I'm on.

I see a handful of now almost veteran members that I've played with no matter which clan or server we were on. I do not find the point of having/being in a clan anymore, since the people I hang out with is not the CoM community, it's the Agion community. All the people there are the ones I play with, chill and have good times with. Isn't that what the Circle of Magi was supposed to be? People having fun?

With the new clan-only server I could imagine a lot of fun happening, but it's clan only, so yeah. Unless Myaskill adds some savage/vagabond rank for the clanless, I won't be on the clan-only server.

I am sincerely sorry to see you go Liberty. Even though I do not agree with it I respect your decision. Hopefully you aren't leaving us to join another clan.

I hope there is no bad feelings between you and the clan to cause your decision to leave. I wish you the best and if you ever find yourself missing us feel free to reapply

I too do see your point that no one is on the clan server but like I have said before it is a crazily hectic time for all of the AMs and for most of the members. I am sure that activity will pick up once again I the near future as it always has.

My leave for Scotland has been announced regularly for quite some time now (8 months in fact )
I hope to have everything implemented during the weekend, but can't guarantee it as Forge and Bukkit doesn't always want to play nice together. I will, and always have, tried to do my very best for the server(s). Valdrec as a member and leader of CoM I would like to point out a few things in your (shall we call it a manifesto?) that I see as being incorrect.


Firstly though I would just like to say that I have always been of the opinion that a clan is made for people to have fun not have gigantic arguments about personal "feuds" or for them to satify their own personal vendettas. To that end I personally have always thought that you always liked to publicize your arguments. Maybe it is to promote your own political views and position, maybe it is because you wish to make yourself into a political "martyr" or maybe it is even because you get some sort of sick humor out of trying to make a clan collapse from the inside out by pushing its members apart. Maybe it is something entirely different from the possibilities I mentioned above. Nether the less no one can deny that what you have been doing could be considered to be rude and inconsiderate conduct. You were banned from the clan yet you insist on lurking on our forum and bothering members that have mostly forgotten you. A majority of our members do not even know you or about you being banished.

Personal thoughts aside,
Repeatedly through your essay you spoke about a single leader. CoM is comprised of a 5 member Council of ArchMagi. The reasoning behind this is simple. As Lord Acton once said "absolute power corrupts absolutely". The best way to avoid this, as not only CoM but many other clans and even National Governments have found, is to divide the power. Dividing the power makes it much harder for one person to take control and make all the decsicions because everything the Council decides had to have been approved by a simple majority. Meaning, that in order for something to "pass" it must recieve at least 3 of the 5 Council votes. So, in actuality CoM could never actually be strong armed by a single person. (No, I am not saying that it would be impossible for a singularly dispicable council to control the clan and use it for their own means. But, again, the absolute power works against that, odds are if that happened then one out of the five would try to seize control of the Clan. At this point every clan member would see the council members for what they were and would immediately hit the reset button. This being said that has never happened in CoM history and, I strongly doubt it ever being even remotely possible of occurring). These "checks and balances" have been well thought out and refined as time went on.

Secondly, you said that the ArchMagi do not really do anything and that usually the one with "direction" calls all the shots (just paraphrasing here). This is also false. Firstly you are not privy to the private conversations held by the ArchMagi so, where do you get the information to base your assertions off of? Secondly, the whole point is for the clan to be as self running as it can without the need for Council interference. So the apparent "lack of public leadership" is just proof that this clan has become almost self-perpetuating, as well as a nail in the coffin in your argument of the AM's having almost no responsibilities, they may not show their responsibility now because there is nothing urgent that needs doing, but the AM's will always be there with the best interests of the clan in mind.

Thirdly, you also stated there was no reviewing applicants for AM this is also false, how would you know since you have not been a witness to the selection process since you were AM? If you said this because you feel that any of the choices for the position of Arch Magi was not the correct choice do not blame the system,it does nothing to "influence" the choice for AM.

Fourth, I personally found your comments against Agion underhanded and rude. Your complaints and arguments were about CoM not the Agion Servers. However, attacking Agion did nothing to help your argument. If you are here to talk about the clan, talk about the clan, not the server that has hosted it for a long time now and has never done anything to hurt the clan. They don't need us, they could just as well have invited another clan, instead they CHOOSE to host us. Why would you insult someone who provides a free service? If you have any hard feelings about being banned, do not use that as a solid basis for your argument, as well as don't use your being banned as an example why the server isn't good for the Clan, I do not know the particular reason for your banning as I was not the one who did it, but the staff were there to provide a safe environment for all the server members so if they did ban you it was for a good, well founded reason.

Fifth, you said that CoM was slipping and that you hate watching stuff like that happen. Why don't you do something constructive and post your suggestions for how to FIX the problem instead of just mentioning all of the problems you see. You said you write so that someone listens, why play the doomsday sayer? Why not be the visionary who overcame his prejudice about the clan that banished him and offered a fix to the problem he was seeing? If you just wrote everything just to point all the stuff out that was wrong without any intent of fixing it then you lied. You said "I hope the truth might be heeded... So that I don't spend another year getting banned from their servers for trying to help." You mentioned helping another clan in that paragraph, why not post this on their forum page? Why insist on posting this in ours? I ask again is it to satisfy some personal feud you have against this clan and you fell like doing a last "in your face"? If so, Valdrec, then you are just as bad as your so called "enemies" have said.

Lastly I would just like to point out that you have once again refused to listen to our request that you stop posting on our thread.

Valdrec, you once said that you had turned over a new leaf, that you have decided that your past behavior was heinous, that you will not do it again and that you apologize for acting like that. Where I ask you does your most recent post fall in line with any of what you said then?

I know you think that you posted this for the "good of CoM" but we do not want your advice, ever again. I assure you that if we do we will ask your for it.

As a leader of The Circle of Magi I respectfully request you stop posting in our thread and that you stop bothering our members.
