Make sure you sign up for the KoA website, it's the new forums, as I like to say.
There we'll discuss important issues and topics about the clan.
Also, make mental note that on Saturdays at 6pm GMT we have our weekly clan meetings, so you can see what our clan is all about. We are currently making a new city, based on the theme of 'Las Vegas.' A very lively, energetic place!
Our govt. is a monarchy with VIROS as king, Jstratter, Kevalalajnen, and myself as Council Members, and Officials which are like police, keeping Alesgan in tact. And then we have the masses, which are citizens like you. You can buy land and build a house, or a business, or you could explore, or work for a company, endless possibilities.
What I'm trying to say, is WELCOME!
And if you have any questions, fell totally free to ask, either here, PM, or on the website!
Hope you like Alesgan and what we stand for :smile.gif:
I think it'll be fine. And if not, we can always find a different server. For right now though, the specs seem great, and if it does work, it'll be great. People are just dying to play on a server. But, we need some king/council member meetings before we set up the ip because we really need an image or something on how we want to build the city. :smile.gif:
I'm very wary of having a server that far away from the U.S. Fendron's server had a ton of lag, which made me get disconnected whenever I tried to edit a block. And he was in Europe (I think).
Like i've said to others about Prism, servers often have pretty promises of OMG 24 GB RAM, but in truth this is not the RAM allocated to the server at all.
Prism claimed to have 16 GB RAM, this is true, the machine on which it ran had 16 GB.
However.
Prism only had 2 GB RAM allocated to it when it was hosting the open server, and 1 GB when it was for Alesgan alone, I take these facts from statements made by para on the server. Aside from that, I will guarantee you fat chance that there are at least 5 other servers running on the same machine as the server you would buy.
I personally dont like server only hosts with internet interfaces, it means you dont really have any clue on what is hosted on the machine next to your server. I also had a quick glance at this link you provided and as far as I can see they are not mentioning the broadband connection, or connection speed, or the network usage at all. Coincidence?
When this discussion arose before in Alesgan, i recommended a VPS, and I still do, the only problem with a VPS is that you will have to put down considerably more money, Im not saying internet interface server host only are bad, its just my personal opinion that they are less reliable and dont give you when they promise, what i can say from personal experience.

this is also my main concern with this suggestion, Fend's server was hosted in the Netherlands, Western Europe. If you take a server which is hosted across the pacific on a connection which is most likely worse (since the Netherlands has one of the worlds best internet network speeds) you may end up worse then ever.
Hmm... I understand what MonMarty is saying. If VPS are much more expensive than the other kind, but better, I am going to have someone else assist me in paying. I can't pay for something inordinately expensive on my own.

It looks like a very attractive offer to me. It's based in the U.S., so I think it should be pretty good. I know I'd be willing to donate - at the very least - $1.00 per month (I think a lot of other people would be able to donate too).
might want to inquire a bit about the specific power of the VPS, but it seems good to me. Generally said VPS´s are so expensive because you are practically getting a remote desktop, if you just run minecraft on it, that would be a waste of money. If you however bought a VPS that is targeted at hosting Minecraft servers, you will not only save money, but also make sure the money that you do put into it doesnt go to waste.
So check the specs, but if the story adds up, it would be a good buy.
Hm. Interesting. Remember, we have a meeting at 6pm GMT on Saturday, and every member who wants to stay in the clan must post on http://alesgan.webs.com/apps/auth/login ... ve-members by November 14th. I am going to check out that VPS server, see if it is something we would like.
Looks VERY good to me :biggrin.gif: So we pay $16.00 a month, plus the server management rates?
Who here would be willing to donate some money to paying for it? I'll pay a minimum of $1.00 per month.
Viros, before or after we get the server, could you please upload an image of the layout your thinking for the city. It'd be helpful for getting the plot records updated. Thanks!
I'll take a look at how much money I have, see if I can afford this consistently. If someone else could also pony up a little cash for the $16+$4 per month, that would be great. Preferably, someone who can provide the other part of the payment consistently, and at least 1/3 of it, since I don't want 5 different members each contributing $2 per month.
We need to get a Paypal account that works. This way people can donate, VIROS will have the password, and so will the Council Members so that we can all assure that they money is only going toward the server.

Sounds perfect.
How soon can we get it, if we all agree on it, that is?
