I'm tired of those communist miners, where are the capitalist clans defending our right to banking and currency, over "sharing" everything without classes to differentiate who has money. Can someone point me in the direction of freedom over equality?
If minecraft was as competitive and self-serving as a capitalist economy, there'd hardly be any point to clans. I don't see what the appeal is, either. There needs be a balance between personal freedom and community, and it can't be achieved when you take either too seriously.
You have a very warped idea of freedom if you think equality is not a necessary a part of it. Those with less money or status in your system aren't free because those with money and power are capable of projecting their will onto those people.
Come now, have faith in the Capitolist system. With the right leadership and policies it would be a very effective group.
You might sound more convincing if you spelt 'Capitalist' correctly, but I doubt it. Sure it'd be effective. Effective at what? Sure you'd have rights and freedoms [to buy anything with money], but we already have them, the only limitation being that which makes the server look like crap or be otherwise disenchanting, and that's what you want to give people the right to. Or you could regulate construction (like real world capitalist societies do anyway)...but of course that's socialist. You can have freedom, or you can have a functional community. Granted, being hardcore on the community is just as bad of an idea as being hardcore on personal freedom. To have no personal possessions, to always work for the group, it gets tedious very quickly.
In my clanning experience, the best policy is not to worry about these things, and that clans are capable of much more when the leader says "hey, I think this would be cool," rather than "this is what who we are, and this is what we're doing." Treat people as if they have a brain to use and a natural sense of respect, and they will most often have it, and you get a much more versatile, dynamic, and intelligent community. Capitalist, communist? Whatever, I just want to build cool stuff with cool people, and in that setting, where do you ever see these distinctions? If an economic system is to be had, you make it up as you go and be much stronger for it.
Well, political beliefs aside, minecraft (especially multiplayer) is not made for capitalist economy.
Let's see, the foundation of capitalism is the privately-owned means of production, which in minecraft should be workbench, pickaxes, furnace and such. In real life, means of productions, like machines in factories, are too expensive for ordinary people to obtain and maintain without getting money from somewhere, most likely goods from the tools. Therefore, a simplified capitalist economy would be: someone buy a machine, hire people to operate it, then sell the goods for money, and give a portion back to the workers.
However, in minecraft, both natural resources (minerals and some other stuff) and means of productions are very easy to come by, even a new player can see its first diamond ore in a hour if one is lucky, and workbench and furnace is almost the easiest things you can make in minecraft world. There is no efficient division of labour in minecraft too: ten people working in a big workshop has about the same outputs of ten people working in a big workshop. Therefore, it is unlikely to have a stable capitalist economy in the current setting. The lack of security of private properties also hurts the idea of privately-owned things.
Though, if you want to create a capitalist economy here, you will have to restrict common people from accessing resources and means of productions, such as mines and workshops. A government-backed currency, such as minerals, and a higher security for private stuffs will also help the economy grow.
You can have freedom, or you can have a functional community.
The dichotomy is false - you just need to think up a way to organise your community so as to allow everyone to excercise their freedom and, in matters that impact a group of people, find a conciliatory way of making such decisions that involves the input of everyone involved.
Well, yeah, that would be a functional community. I speak of freedom as a disorganized freebuild, which I would imagine the OP creating.
A capitalist system would be very hard to achieve and would require intense planning. It would probably work best on a dedicated RP server with consistent moderators and admins watching over. So despite negative connotation, near unfeasibility, and intensive demand on higher ranking community members it would still be a functional efficient close knit community.
Nice to know we have a lot of leeway in concluding a good analysis.
I'm sorry, everything you've said here says to me "it probably won't work".
Alesgan is quite capitalist. We used to be more socialist, but we have moved towards smaller government, privatization, and a free market. It is actually easier to maintain a free market system because we don't need constant regulation. The people regulate the market, simply by not buying things they don't like.
Why, thank you. I just created it after reading the "Kemomomomimimomomimimomomimomimomomimimimimimi catgirl/closet furry topic, heh.
But yeah, we're pretty laid back in Opulentia. Right now we're setting up our base of operations on Phocidea. We run a couple shops and other things on other servers, though. As Minister of Architecture, I don't really do much of the business side of things.
We'll soon have a new clan thread up. It should read something like a '50s retro commercial, at least, that's what Doctor_Mittens said.
So I've seen. I'm still new, and epitaph is the first time I've gotten to play with other clans besides my own, and it's interesting noting the differences between clans. In comparison, Dark Wolves actually is fairly communist, though we're pretty lax about it. We're too busy building cool stuff to care about rights :biggrin.gif: But real talk, a light communist taste goes with our image anyway; we're quite community-oriented.
Opulentia is interesting too, I'm impressed at having apparently made a working capitalist system. Hopefully I'll get to see some cool stuff when y'all show off.
But... but- I DONT WANNA BE A COMMUNIST HIPPIE NAZI LIKE YOU GUYS
Capitalism is the only economical system that can works!
Democracy is AWESOME except that people are too STUPID TO HELP MAKE THE RICH RICHER instead of VOTING YES ON 1098- im getting off topic :biggrin.gif: but can you reaaaaly be free if you're equal? Like that other guy who mentioned, WE NEED THE FREEDOM TO NOT BE EQUAL :biggrin.gif:

Too bad ACoM has both freedom and equality.
Correction: He wants freedom to obtain power.
