So, I'm running a little server here off my computer at home for me and a couple of my friends when I realized my seed changed at some point. So now I have desert crashing with mountains and swap.... snow in the desert etc etc. I have no idea what my old seed was.
I was reading about how the seeds were created and wanted to know at what point in time in the error log is the world and seed officially generated so that I could grab the time and use that to hopefully get the original seed back. This also leads to another question... what exactly is the time format MC uses when it generates the seed off your computer time? Is it the YYYY HH:MM:SS or YYYYHHMMSS or HH:MM:SS or HHMMSS. If I happened to over look that in the wiki then I apologize.
Here is the first successful start up of the server from my log:

"If you leave the seed field blank, the game will use the time (computer clock) as a seed. Leaving the seed field blank will not produce the same map every time."
So, I figure if I can find out what time and the format then I could fix my seed and get it back...
TL;DR: What point is the world actually generated in the server log and what is the format for time MC uses when creating a random seed?
If first launched your server in 1.0, then odds are that you are not experiencing an issue with seeds. It is most likely that your problem is with the new land generation code that Jeb instituted in 1.1. If the server was started before 1.1, parts of it would use the old land generation code while the newly generation parts would be using the new code. Since the biome code was also redone, this would be likely to account for the inconsistency with the biomes. There isn't much of an after-the-fact solution to this problem other than smoothing out the land and making it look pretty. I hope this helped.

Ah... I believe I started it post 1.1 but I'm not familiar with when 1.1 was officially released... I first turned it on on the 15th of this month. I just wish I could get that seed back.. it was really nice and perfect for a starting my friend off who knows nothin about the game... Oh well I guess I'll look around for some other good seeds to restart on, we didn't do too much and I think the 4000 mile long cavern under us was kind of annoying.
