Wanted: Mature minecraft players interesting in a vanilla survival experience.
Hello, minecraft community. For several years now, I was a part of a generally Vanilla minecraft server called Omen. When I joined, originally, the server ran as a vanilla factions-oriented competitive experience. When that map died, we tried the same thing again, for a shorter period of time. The player base began to shrink, and understandably so. The majority of players who had been with the server before I joined it had grown up, moving on with their lives. They just simply didn’t have the time to play and log the amount of time to keep the server running anymore.
Leadership changed, and we tried a reboot with a custom map, plugins to make the game more fun, and a single leadership position that eliminated bureaucratic squabble. Alas, without enough players to support the single admin, we soon realized that it was simply too much work. That map died.
Now, the server exists in name only, a creative map where the few people who are still interested occasionally spend time building things for fun. Recently, though, I’ve begin to long for the time when we were a nationalist creation, with lots of players who devoted time and energy every day to make their cities and personal treasuries prosper. I really think that even in this more modern server community, saturated with economy plugins and building aids, there must be players who still appreciate vanilla multiplayer survival, like the days of Beta.
The one problem that besets the idea of a vanilla server is the massive amount of work it takes to run one. Without automated plugins to handle theft and grief, it falls to admins to handle the day-to-day issues-As well as construction of event dungeons, arenas, and other events to keep the populace interested. For one single player, especially ones restricted by school, work, and other responsibilities, the pressure is too great. People become disinterested, and leave, when admins can’t be as active.
I’m willing to give it a go, one last time. The purpose of this post is to determine whether or not there is a stable base of players willing to try and make a vanilla server happen again. With enough people, we can try for factions or other forms of organizations, be it clans, tribes, or towns. I feel that small(no larger than 25), active player groups help the most to make a server fun.
Post thoughts, feelings, and other ideas below, if interested. What servers do you play on? If we can generate enough of a list of players, we can think about other features that could be added. Also, please post intended activity level below. It helps to know who can log the most time, because a large community of casual players won’t accomplish nearly as much as a smaller community of dedicated players.
In conclusion: -Measuring interest in players willing to devote time to a (generally)vanilla survival server -May feature factions, lore/game-master created loot dungeons and other competitive goodies -Will feature “events”, depending on player activity
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please leave comments below. As always, no hate please, we’re conducting a survey-not a message board.
Also, if really interested, I suggest subscribing to the post for updates.
Anyone who sees this and is interested, repost it somewhere on other minecraft sites? I think the reddit one was having issues, so go put some in there. Thanks for the interest!
I'm down... I've been looking for a place to play. Haven't looked too hard but I want a small group. People I can make good friends with.
I ran a StarCraft USWest clan for a few years. The Clan peaked around 60 members per month when I was in full control and didn't have a job or school. I work now and I'm also studying but I have plenty of time to game and I have plans for recording so I'm sure I could bring a little attention to a server if you wanted to make a go at it...
I use Skype/Steam for voice. Could use TS/Vent up to you. I'll PM my skype username.
Anyone interested in playing Minecraft send me a message with your Skype username or Steam and I'll message you. That way we can organize a bit until this guy hits us up.
