I'm just getting my feet wet in the wonderful world of CIT + Optifine for a resource pack and I'm wondering about the limits of it.
What I'm trying to do is have different textures (models would be cool, but not sure if that's possible at all) for different colours of dyed leather armor.
For example, if I have a leather chestplate with the colour 16007844 (a bright pink), I'd like to be able to give that a different texture from a leather chest plate of the color 16001844. I know the 1.12 level of colour specificity probably makes this hard (vs the 16[?] colours in 1.10) but it would be very cool to have!
Any thoughts, advice or links are greatly appreciated!

You could probably have the overlay texture be the same as the base texture, but make it colored.
