Hello everyone
I just had this little question if it's somehow possible to change the Pumpkin texture if you wear it(I don't mean the pumpkinblur overlay) via the resource pack and mcmeta files.
Reason for this is that I want to make the worn Pumpkin some kind of mask without actually editing the Pumpkin Vegetable itself.
Guess this isn't possible but I thought I'd ask anyways, thanks for any help.

Yes and no. You can change the item model, which is what shows up on your head, but this will also change how it looks in the inventory. The block as placed in the world can still remain unchanged, but the worn version and the inventory version are linked.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
That's actually not too bad news, having the item(and yeah it makes sense to have a item model, Dirt Block and the biome colors are a good example for this) be changed but not the placed Pumpkin itself isn't optimal but it's still better than nothing, at least the placed ones won't look like it at least which is always something.
I've also seen you on the forums before in a different thread, really friendly moderator, good job.
The block model is physically what is placed in a Minecraft world. The item model is what your player sees on the ground/on player/in gui/etc.
You can change the block model for the Pumpkin separate to the item model for the Pumpkin.
The block model is saved as "assets/minecraft/models/block/pumpkin.json" whilst the item model is saved as "assets/minecraft/models/item/pumpkin.json".
(If you want to use a Jack-o-Lantern then its model name is "lit_pumpkin.json")

And Thanks to your help I know exactly which block to change.
About a week ago I did stumble upon the json files and saw how those have the different side textures, which made me think it's possible to implement new textures for block sides and all, which would be a lovely feature. I did only start working on the texture pack later and since in the meantime I tried to mess around with the models(I couldn't load the original models if that's possible, heard how the json files ar eonly linked) I thought that it isn't possible to change side textures.
This post confirmed it through and you gave me the right pointers. Took me about 15 minutes(due to a name error, think I named a folder block instead of blocks) to get it working but I did in the end.
Even if it's not "required" so to say, I've attached a image to show it working, just for fun.
If anyone gets a idea because of this or does something similar, then a mention somewhere would be nice but is not required.
Thanks for your guys help, anything I can do as a thanks? I did already upvote both posts on the day I did this, don't see any other way to upvote or rep.

Sadly didn't get to reply to stuff until now:
