Being a Mac user doesn't change anything... except that Mac users always seem to have a problem with zipping things correctly.
As a test, take the file "resources.zip" and put it into your /resourcepacks/ folder without unzipping it or changing it in any way. If you can select it normally in the Resource Packs menu then you have a completely different problem than the one I'm thinking of. So if you can select it... let me know and I'll try to think of something else.;
But if my suspicions are correct you won't see it in your Resource Packs menu at all. If this is the case what happened is that you zipped your work folder instead of the contents of that folder like you were supposed to. To put it another way, the /assets/ folder and pack.mcmeta files should be immediately visible upon opening the .zip file. They should not be inside another folder within the .zip file. You'll need to figure out how to do that with your software, and unfortunately I can't help you since I'm not a Mac user and know nothing about what sort of archive management software is available on the platform.
Hey, Thanks very much! It works perfectly, this is not a problem, but the weird thing is, when I joined the map, the resource pack is there fine, but when I go to the Resource Packs Settings I can see a "Resource Pack" called "Server" for some reason, and I couldn't get rid of it (not that I want to) like how you would normally press the arrow buttons for it to go to the "Available Resource Packs" or "Selected Resource Packs" column...

I hope that helps you.
