The Reconstruction Challenge
This is a different kind of Resource Pack Challenge, made by goodlyay, Seradicus, and myself. It is fortnightly, meaning that the challenge resets every 2 weeks. Each round we decide on 3 pictures, and it is your task to recreate one of them using a resource pack. Rules
You may not use the models from 1.8 snapshots, and you also may not use MCPatcher's additional features.
At the end of the round, everyone must post a screenshot of their build using the pack they created. It does not have to be a survival-usable pack, meaning that wood does not have to be textured like wood, etc.
Your build should roughly be to scale, meaning you may not build a giant chair and room from blocks.
You may use any resolution you feel. It does not affect the score you get, which is based on 3 things.
There is a winner for accuracy, a winner for creativity, and a winner decided by the popular vote, which is most important. You are not required to release the pack you create.
Shaders are not allowed, but anything possible in vanilla minecraft is, including lighting tricks or glitches.
The first 3 pictures are:
You may enter as many of these as you want.
Good luck, and happy texturing!
So wait... we have to make a pack, and then in turn build in game a version of one of those photos?
Not quite. It's really just as few textures as you need to be able to Reconstruct your choice of photo. It's not something you make for actual minecraft use.
Say, for picture #3, you may use birch logs for one side of the middle 'pathway' and oak for the other side. Grass blocks for the tiles to the edges, if you want. If you want to use stained glass to make a light fixture, you can go right ahead and do that. If you want to try to fix the perspective in the textures, you can. Whatever your tastes desire.
@Drazile (I don't know how to quote during an edit anymore...)
Yes, choose which of the 3 you would like to Reconstruct.
Okay I get it now, this looks like a real blast to do. You could even perhaps do the whole thing just by textureing the wools and building from that. I may give it a try.
That looks good! Custom lightmaps can only be achieved with MCPatcher, no? Perhaps in another session of this challenge we will allow MCPatcher features.

Yes, but it does not have to be a full pack. It only has to have enough textured blocks to look like one of the photos.
So, do we choose which of the three images we want to recreate?

Nah, these were all just found randomly on the internet.
Of course! You can do more than one, too.

Also, being able to add a custom lightmap to our packs would be incredibly useful for the third pic... just sayin'
