This is my first attempt at a texture pack, and I'm stuck at the leather armor. The fact that the texture itself is grayscale, but the in-game texture has the color of the leather confuses me, plus the fact that the designs on the armor don't appear in the texture file. Can anyone explain this to me please?

The original files of cloth_1 and cloth_2 are now grey-scaled and to these the dye in game is applied, if it remains undyed you see the brown leather color which is hardcoded into the game (it's why these files are greyscaled. If they are colored, the brown leather color is skewed and the dye colors are skewed as well).
Cloth_1_b and cloth_2_b are overlays, where you put the textures you want to remain undyed. The overlays are not greyscaled and can be any color, like the old cloth textures. Cloth_1_b and cloth_2_b are textured the same, like all the same stuff goes everywhere; the hat, the front of the chest, etc. etc.

I hope I explained it clearly enough.
Thank you! So, cloth_1 and cloth_2, as long at the texture is grey-scaled, should work fine, correct?
