Hey there... I was wondering, would it be possible to bring back old passive mob spawning from 1.7 and before? You know, when they would only spawn on grass, check for spawning every tick and despawn as usual?
Now they only check for spawn every 400 ticks, and only have the highest chance of spawning when generating new terrain. Now with the hunger bar, food is very important. So basically they don't spawn in your proximity. Now I can't make heads or tails of the mob spawning code, but perhaps someone can?
What I'd like is the world generation code from 1.3 Beta. Doing that combined with the old passive mob spawning, yet keeping the new content, is what I'd love to see made.

Yeah the old spawning code was nice. Something you could do is take two cows you find, two pigs you find, and whatever other animals you want, and bring them into a big hole. Use wheat on them to make you follow (do them one set at a time. Having two cows together could have them make a baby on the way there) and make the hole have an entrance from the side so you can just go in, get your wheat to make them go into 'love mode', and watch as the animals rapidly increase. Now you have an animal farm. Make sure the hole isn't so deep that the animals die. You only need to make it 2 deep. I know it's kinda complicated but this is the best way to make an animal farm. If you wanted to get really advanced you could make sections that are filled with a certain kind of animal and press a button to release that one animal but that would be a lot more complicated. So just start with the hole with animals in it.
I'm going to have to play the other side here and go against it. The reason passive mob spawning is like it is now is because they're breedable now and don't despawn. In theory, if you have a wheat farm (and who doesn't?) you have an infinite amount of animals. And besides, you can grow all of you food in your farms if need be.

Honestly? I'm either never updating to 1.9 or I'm gonna go back to 1.7.3. I am NOT playing the pre-release, don't tell me about animals having sex.
Things like these irritate me:
The new torch lighting having the centre blocks white
The passive mob code
(in 1.9pr3) 3.5 hearts for a diamond sword??? Honestly, anything that doesn't die from 2 hits with a diamond sword is too powerful.
Zombies have 11 hearts???!!!
EXP WTF
ENCHANTING WTF
The last two makes me think, MC is veering (in the wrong direction, imho) towards becoming an RPG game. It's about fighting exploding penises, punching sheep for wool (i miss that) and smelting sand that makes this game interesting; not having to CRIT HIT a ZOMBIE 3 times to kill it, not having to worry about hunger, and not having to venture 100+ blocks to find a cow.

I don't have a wheat farm because I don't have the patince for it. I also watch another youtuber who dosen't like weat farms because of no patince for it.
I would actually really like a mod like this, as it would bring back the dynamic experience a lot of people are familiar with and bring back some old favorites like Humans+, which is dead because of the new spawn code. It could also bring more creativity potential to mod creators of today, allowing them to have mobs spawn on certain blocks as opposed to in whole biomes. Compatibility would be less of an issue as well with the per-block spawning, as Biome mods and Mob mods don't go hand-in-hand unless they've been coded to do so.

I like Minecraft.
I play it sometimes.
