I really like this idea! although the wiring behind the display looks a little sloppy. I think I'll have to give it a try soon.
Edit: I made a clock back thats pretty thin. It only needs to update once per second and it also makes the middle dots blink at that rate. comparator clock on 5 ticks off 5 ticks
It only sticks out 3 in the back...
btw I programmed one set of command blocks and it was a pain in the @#$% so i'll get to the rest tomorrow...
I really love the 4 wide design, makes it a lot more compact. I decided to go back and refine my design a bit, and was able to get it even more compact, down to a 3 wide display but it did increase the length slightly:
It worked out well with the dots in the middle so I was able to get it to blink just like your design. It also refreshes every 10 ticks(one second) like the rest of the system, this can cause some problems if it isn't done in sync tho, so I'm gonna add a sync to the receivers in the future.

170 command blocks so far in the clock and 15 in the display(1 extra for syncing). I'm getting tired of changing so many command blocks lol.
