I'm building a melon/pumpkin farm in my survival world and I want to be able to press a button, keep my waterflows running and pistons in changed state (extracted/detracted) for 10 seconds, and then it will turn off automatically.
I'm not very good with redstone, but if I wanted the system to get activated after 10 seconds I would just slap in 25 repeaters at 4 ticks. I'm not sure how to keep the power in the system for 25 ticks though, but maybe you can help me out?
Found out that I probably don't have enough space for a sustainer, so I'll probably use pressure plates and a RS NOR latch (?); I'll walk over the plates, the pistons changes states, and when I walk out of the room it all resets again.
Problem is; I am indeed a redstone newbie. I have two pressure plates in front of the system. I want both of them to be linked up so that when i activate either one of them, the pistons extract, and when I activate one of the pressure plates again, the system will be reset. What's the simplest way of doing this? I've been playing around in creative mode a bit but can't seem to get it to work without having two separate buttons/pressure plates controlling which torch is lit.

I'm pretty much using this design:

thats way bigger than it needs to be.
