1.2 is out, and I'm very excited to try all of the new features. I did a quick bug check on the wiki, and it says that enchanting labels are glitched, building to the height limit and standing there crashes the game, opening a chest crashes the game*, and opening the inventory crashes the game*.

I just want to know; is 1.2.2 stable enough to play? And does the height limit=128 or 256?

Some people claim it is, others claim that they can't even update or their world gets deleted.
I suggest you backup your Minecraft files (minecraft.jar and save files, just to be sure you can safely revert to 1.1 if it doesn't work out) and try how 1.2.2 works for you.
I personally don't even bother trying, but that is mainly because I have to wait for a at least slightly compatible MCEdit version and I wouldn't even bother importing my stuff to a new map atm, as I fear the world generation will change once again within this update cycle.
I will do this. I have a question about the height limit bug; does it occur at 128 or 256?

I wouldn't build near the 256th level if I were you. That's the only game breaking bug I know of. Make sure you back up older world's though. There's some issues with older worlds.
