The 20th century was the period between January 1, 1901 and December 31, 2000 but if you think it fits better to include a few years either side that's fine. My first thought is to call it the space age or the era of globalization but I think I'm going with the Age of Communism. When I break it down into 10 year periods and then look at the big picture the Rise and Fall of Communism seems significant.

Sure, was is certainly something that this century has been faced with. But it's not something that defined this century. Nearly every century of human existence has been plagued by war but never have we made such great technological achievements as we have in the past hundred years.
