Because, like many other kids his age, the chicken was eager to find his way out of this world. He would also solve for himself the mystery of whether or not there is anything on the other side or not.
I've considered getting to the other side a few times, but I stick around because I don't really have anything better to do... and also because I'm too much of a chicken to cross the road anyway (le giggle).
