Now I know there's a new site, and it's quite nice. However people are starting to leave it. The last post in the chat section was on September 12th, and the chat thread was just more filled with people, and was more fun to hang out on.
Now most of the chat thread regulars are most likely gone now because it's gone so let me explain what it was to any new comers: It was a thread for chatting, where we could talk about anything we wanted (Within reason).
There were always lots of interesting conversations being had, and when there were non we just fooled around and talked about normal stuff. It was a community within this community, and a quite good one at that.
That brings me to another point, the new site has very few rules, except keep it pg13 (no porn), which seems to be causing some extremely un-intelligent conversation. Now I know citric made it that way because of all the people complaining about not being able to swear, however it has not helped the community in the slightest, in-fact it's gotten a bit worse.
If any chat thread regulars do read this, I'm sure you understand what I'm getting at, and I hope new readers can get their minds around it.

Oh please. You've been on mcft all of about three times. It's no more stupid than the old chat threads.
The only marked change, is when people feel detached from a centralized and familiar location, they're more likely to let out their real feelings about other people, other things. This has resulted in slightly more harsh responses and commentary. But... is this not a good thing? Honesty is how people learn, change, and grow. For better and worse. New sites and environments always have a hard time coming to a balance. Imagine it like chemistry. Solute to solvent.
Citricsquid makes a very good point about the old chat threads. They were mainly just smalltalk and "o hai".

You can see a pattern in this. As a format, where it was, it was only causing issues, and its medium wasn't conducive to much good conversation. It did have a good deal of occasional conversation that was in depth, and its range of topics did oscillate and be constantly moving, but for the most part it was only good for fueling the typical groupie behaviors. Old vs new, etc. The new site is just as well of a replacement, it just has less visitors simply because of being a detached entity.
Everything looks brighter in memory. Nostalgia, etc. Everyone has different attachments, but I don't think the chat threads were so great as they might seem in memory.

This part is the one I think is most applicable to the whole matter. It certainly was an ecology within an ecology. This had quite a number of effects on its patterns, how it worked, evolved, maintained equilibrium. As well as the effects it had outside of itself on GOT as a whole. That's the main deficit from decoupling the chat threads from this forum. It changed things beyond itself, and doesn't really cycle like it did at one point.
I thought chat threaders (or Otters, as people call them) were kinda strange... like, really weird. They acted all sexual to each other and they barely knew each other.

Most of the people you're referring to have been perma banned, thankfully.

It was cool but I think it's time we moved on to other cooler things, perhaps you should socialize with people in your local community... Nah they're all "idiots."

I just dislike most people.
It's not worthy of being called a substitute.
Just a dump for the banned people of MCF.
Not all of them are banned, I think Mercury and Riptide aren't banned here.
