Now if it was an avatar depicting nudity, or just "stupidly suggestive/attractive," I would have to question that person's state of mind when picking said avatar.
Why? I have those kind of avatars all the time on sites that will allow it and I'm perfectly sane.
But I see no point in having some big bosom anime chick fully unclothed as your avatar unless you plan on spending a night alone with said character.
And I do.
I don't know how you came to that, though. Avatars are just things that people like or want people to depict them as, whether that be to give an accurate assumption of their personality in a single picture, or to pretend to be something else entirely, so I fail to see why'd you think that.
To attract the attention of perverts. Or something like that.
Yeah. Everyone you don't understand must be living their lives around you, makes sense.
They want to attract you on a sexual level, but oh no, you're havin' none of that, you'll turn them right down. By golly, by gosh.
That'll show em! Conducting themselves in such a deliberate way as to perpetually try to bait and ruse you, kniving desires. They have a master plan, but you have it all figured out. You've definitely got their back to the wall here. Let there be light to their twisted, deviant ways.
What perverts. They clearly can't have their own reasons for choosing an avatar, and they clearly aren't worthy of anything beyond dehumanization.
i have no idea why they would do that. If they did that they are just giving away they're male dominance and making them look like perv/nerds alas i have no idea i am not one of those kind of guys... i'm Artorias of the abyss...
You know, when this thread first started, I thought there were gonna be 3 or 4 comments by Tog, Silver, Envy, and such saying why they prefer anime.
And then it turned to this.

But it always turns to this when the human component is involved.

Both men and women are less likely to be assertive against someone with a disarmingly cute avatar or signature. This makes it an advantage through the diffusion of aggression.

Or they might just me insecure about themselves so they want to hide themselves using anime girls as icons. If it's true, then that would make so much sense.

If all of us give a little bit of something to a good cause, we can help to make that cause happen.

How does someone being insecure relate to using what kind of avatar they choose? Wouldn't it make more sense for an insecure male to choose a manly, strong, powerful, buff character over something much more...light? Not seeing the argument here.

Hmm. Point taken.
Besides i'm sure people are more insecure over making an picture of themselves as an icon than to just post an anime picture.

Let me just get to the point here...
why does it even matter? I mean, it's not like your impassioned speech is really gonna change anyone's mind about their avatar.
So, just do as I do... live and let live. Think about them what you will, and they'll think about you what they will, it's as simple as that.
Indeed, IMO.
I mean, about Corvo's personality, not the character.
I'm not talking about sanity. If you know what I mean....

In reality, though, it's just like if I had Sonic as my profile picture if I was a fan of Sonic (at least that's how I see it).
And then it turned to this.
don't expect me to be on much.

Off-topic is such an unpredictable place.

That I can agree with.
So now that we're clear on things, let's backtrack and start asking why MEN do it. I can probably understand the girls now, but why the boys?

How are girls more immune against this stereotype than males is my first question.

There. We backtracked, asked the question, and got a number of different opinions on the question.
