Wow way to gang up on a guy sharing his opinion. No, really, good job guys. Welcome to the amazing community, WarCrow! Did you notice all the anime avatars? Notice how many of those are women?
I'm just going to give up at this point considering all you guys have done is start complaining about why i'm making the argument in the first place. I still have a logical point and there isn't much to say after that.
And you're not doing the exact same thing with dismissing our arguments, hm?
Also, your logical point is backed up by absolutely no evidence whatsoever, and has been confirmed by absolutely zero people that are male and have female avatars. You have no grounds to be going around tooting your own horn thinking you know our reasoning.
I'm not saying people should stop. I never said that. It just doesn't make any logical sense for a straight male to have a sexy anime girl with a personality like a box
I'm worried to know what you consider logic, then.
And there we go with the opinion based "fact" again.
The world doesn't revolve around you, and people shouldn't have to change their behavior to preemptively address your naive, and largely faulty conclusions. People will externalize whatever facet of themselves they like, you can only control yourself, it's your own job to adapt at all times.
Why does anyone choose anything as an avatar. Does anyone even need an avatar at all? What is the intended function of an avatar, as a line of thought, where does it come from, where does it go to? Do you need Sasuke as an avatar? Interpretation isn't uniform, your "personal image" in other people's minds based on that will vary. There is a lot more at play than sex, sex is likely quite low on the list.
If no one comments on opinions that they view as different ( or even outright "wrong"), they become an echo chamber and never change nor see contrast. That isn't how life works. I think Naruto is commercialized clutter, should you not complain or present a contradicting viewpoint if I were to say that? How would either party, in any scenario, grow or come to understand one another if that was how it "should" work?
Don't expect other people to tiptoe around you. This is the real world.
...So you made a personal choice...based on personal opinion...and personal reasoning? That stemmed largely from social and societal beliefs about self image, and self representation?
Tell me why other people using their own reasoning is somehow false, versus your own.
You're afraid of others, and afraid of having to think and be wrong...So could it be you're just afraid of thinking that something might not be as you think it is?
Come now. Is that any way to be. Much less demonizing others with only that as a justification. All lines lead back to the self, it'd be more accurate to say that you fear some part of yourself in that light.
What.
"We as society will judge you."
Society is a system of working parts. It is made of individuals, with any norms just being patterns (Albeit they do propagate and even set precedents. Mainly in the realm of overall social perception about environment vs. self). Sorry, but you aren't standing secure in some massive group and judging a fringe group of other people. Drop the us vs. them attitude. It's juvenile at best, and self destructive at worst.
When did i say that the world revolved around me? I understand quite well that i cant control others, i am just voicing my opinion on why I THINK people should use an avatar that corresponds to their gender. If some men want to be represented as a female then fine, but some people, such as myself, will not be happy with it, but then what can we do? Its the internet.
People want to choose an avatar for many reasons, such as personality, character design, sexual appeal, etc. There are many reasons. No, you do not even NEED an avatar. No, I do not NEED Sasuke as my avatar, there are many other characters that i like that i could have chosen as my avatar
.I commented my opinion and you are replying to it, we are attempting to come to an agreement. As for the example of Naruto, yes i do like it but i do realize and accept that it, much like everything else, is not perfect and it does have its faults.
I don't expect people to tiptoe around me, i like conversations and augments, that is why i am here, in this forum, responding to you and voicing my opinion.
Other peoples opinions aren't wrong, you are right, it is the internet and people are free to do what they want. People see others opinions as 'wrong' or 'incorrect' mostly because they support the opposite argument.
I am not afraid of others. I behave differently around women than around men. Around women i am more reserved, i watch what i say and how i say it. Around men i do whatever the i want because, well, who cares they are just my friends, i say stupid things and i act silly and immature. On the internet i cant control who sees my text, i cant control others, i try to be myself, silly at times but sometimes i am serious, it all depends on the topic.
Maybe i came as too strong when i said 'we as society will judge you'. People judge each other, whether you think you do or not. If someone asks about your opinion, or judgement, of your best friend and worst enemy, will the descriptions be the same or different for both of them? People generally have an opinion about things and others, they see you, the way you dress, the way you talk, what you say, your personality, and place you into a category. I cant speak for everyone but one way or another, you have views and opinions on topics and people, you judge them based on the given information and knowledge of them, sometimes unfairly. Tell me, what is your opinion of me, how do you judge me?
You see, this is where your whole statement falls about.
What you think is irrelevant to the decisions others make. In fact, I think it's disgusting you try to force your opinions on other people. I think it's even more disgusting you try and make it seem like others should bow to your every whim, under some presumption that what you think is Right is what everyone else should think is right.
You're right, this has nothing to do with needs, necessities. Because it's a god damned avatar. Grow up.
What i think is irrelevant, yet this whole thread was started based on what we thought about men that used anime girls as their avatar, was it not? Also, i am trying to impose my opinion on others. Why? Well, its simple, this is an argument, a controversial topic, therefore i voice my opinion and i try to get people to see it my way, not everyone will see it my way, that would be impossible. I don't NEED people to change because i think that what they are doing is wrong, I am also not always right. I cant, nor will i, try to control others and what they do, especially on the internet, i can only try to convince them to see things my way, i do not demand, i only ask.
Sounds like a personal dilemma, welcome to the internet. I can understand that could be a little irritating but that only comes about for guys who actually do pretend to be of the opposite sex, don't put us into the same group, ok buddy? For guys who don't pretend to be the opposite sex, what, are you too lazy to check their profile information? Just because some guys use anime girls as their avatars doesn't mean they're all the same, being trying to fool you or whatever other dumb reasonings you want to throw up.
Like I've said before, personally I've got myself marked as male on my profile and anywhere else for that matter, if someone would get confused about my gender that's their own fault for not checking. With some things being said by people in this thread, it's like you're all saying "Guys need guy related avatars and vice versa, no exceptions." Well damn, sorry I didn't get the memo. Sadly I don't care.
I find it extremely ironic what people are saying is wrong/perverted (big breasts, a little revealing, etc) is what the person who started this thread's avatar can be summed up as. "Well the profile says it's a female and because of it being a girl whose using the avatar, it's fine." (I could see someone saying that)
Yup, that excuses it from your reasonings...
See, at first glance, i thought you were a female. Kinda weird huh? I think so, the next 10 people to visit you profile may or may not think so, you may not, but then maybe you don't care about first impressions, or you just don't care about what others think of you. Also, everyone that uses an anime girl as their profile picture, male or female, isn't the same, then again i did say 'the MAJORITY', maybe you should learn to read. Guys DONT need to have an avatar that represents their gender, neither do women, its just more convenient to know more about them at first glance. And because you said that someone would say it, well, let me be that someone. "Well the profile says it's a female and because of it being a girl whose using the female avatar, it's fine." Yes it is fine, at least with me. Its normal in my opinion, a female is using a beautiful anime girl with a great body to represent herself, she probably has a high self esteem about herself and believes herself to be beautiful, maybe she is. Maybe she just liked the character? Maybe the actions or the feelings of the character? A guy could feel that same way about a female anime character and thus make her represent him, but when i see it my first impression will not be that unless otherwise stated.
While Annie is not an anime character (she's a video game character) I choose her simply because of her personality. The way she's portrayed in-game as this sweet little girl that has the complete power to destroy 5 very powerful buff super-men in one shot and then she just hops, skips away like nobody's business is something I enjoy. Is it perverted I have an 8 year old girl as my avatar, seriously? I'm not a freakin pedophile, it's a goddamn video game character. I'm choosing to represent someone I like, there's nothing wrong with choosing a female for an avatar. Avatars are meant to reflect you, on what you like, what you enjoy, your personality. Fire, destruction, while keeping a very calm and cute attitude, yep, that's me.
See, at first glance, i thought you were a female. Kinda weird huh? Oh, I can read just fine good sir, that won't stop me from stating my point though. I can not describe how ridiculous this is, so some guys use anime girls as their avatar, what are you going to do besides look down on them because you're apparently right about the world and you're in a majority group that doesn't really exist here in the first place (how'd you put it, society...)? It's not like you can stop people from using whatever avatar they want to use. I know we've already been down that road with what Acetyl said but really, we could judge you for Naruto avatars yet we don't. Same for Sonic, video game chicks (seems that's all fine and dandy funny enough), whatever it may be. What's getting accomplished from that besides trying to look "powerful" as if you have a say of a website when you clearly do not and/or boost your ego?
All I see frankly is a bunch of young boys who think they have a say of what someone's avatar should be, nothing more, nothing less. You don't see us being serious and commenting on how Sonic avatars are "gay" or any Naruto based avatars are "for homosexuals".
Overall, whatever boys, I'll take my leave from this thread now, it's turning into too much of a mental case. You're right, I don't care what a bunch of small kids think about me using an anime girl avatar, nor anyone elses avatar. Live with it is the best advice I can give you. I'm not changing my avatar because of this, people thinking using such avatars are wrong even if you 'say' you don't care you just think it's perverted for the "majority", I wouldn't expect anyone else to either.
You must be right though, society rules, we're all just perverts.
If one of you who are arguing it's wrong/perverted can't understand sarcasm (I wouldn't be surprised), that last sentence was a joke.

I was saying certain ideas or opinions on why to choose an avatar you disregarded as irrelevant, with your statement of, "I believe that the MAJORITY guys..." Such a statement is dismissing those that have other reasons to choose their avatar as irrelevant, as to insignificant to matter.
Voicing your opinion is much, much different than enforcing it on others. Discussing an idea or dismissing an idea is much different than a call to action. Demanding something take place because of your own differing opinion is much different than simply stating that opinion.
See, at first glance, i thought you were a female. Kinda weird huh? And this is all just absurd. The vast generalizations, the stereotyping of people, it's ridiculous. Do you really need to go through such idiotic lengths to give people you don't even know reasons for using something? Do you really have to cover all the 'what-ifs' just so you can be okay with people doing something?
Who cares what people's reasons are? Who cares if they might mislead or confuse you? It's so childish to demand someone do things a certain way because you either see it as what needs to be done, or are uncomfortable with those actions.
This is completely absurd, and there's no reason to be continuing this.
Gender shouldn't matter. They like the anime character, so? Shouldn't be judged, and/or criticized for it.. I am disappointed in how this topic turned into such a huge argument. And for what? People to be "right".. well guess what; you're not.
There is no right or wrong. It's opinions.
It shouldn't matter what an avatar is. They like it, they use it.
Sooo let me sum this thread up in a final conclusion.
Girls who use girl avatars are okay because they are girls.
Girls who use male avatars are okay because tehy like/love them.
Males who use male avatars are fine because they are males.
Males who use girl avatars are utterly perverts who are either mentally sick or have no ego and always think on raping innocent girls
What do we learn?
Males must be all male, using male avatars, drinking beer, doing wars. going to work and are not allowed to do anything
else. More so if it involves creativity. While females can do whatever they want.
Yeah.... sounds legit....

I'm a guy and I don't have an Anime girl as my picture! Bam! Beat that. I have Aang. <3
Legend of Avatar isn't actually an anime, sorry if I burst your bubble .
Oh, and by the way, people can choose whatever they want as their profile pictures, and it doesn't necessarily mean anything. I found my profile picture to be funny, no other reason.
WHY DO SO MANY GUYS CHOOSE ANIME GIRLS AS THEIR PROFILE PICTURES?
Says the guy with the anime girl profile picture.
First off, I'm a girl. It wouldn't kill you to look at my profile for 2 seconds.
Second I just found it misleading that guys chose girls as profile pictures, and I wasn't sure why they'd want to do that. And now for whatever reason, people are just bringing up the same exact points as the person before, not slightly putting any intrest to this conversation. I got the point after a few posts. Why do we have 7 pages?

avatars are just a way to recognize who's posting faster than by reading names. It dosent have to reflect who's behind the avatar.
And I guess my avatar would be considered anime, even though it's not from one.
Simple: female anime characters are attracting. If not sexualised, the way they express, their positions, for me it's something more than a face, something more than a like. It is a way to describe your feelings. The "not sexualized girl" symbolizes purity, warmth, tranquility. It espresses a peaceful, a soothe mind, a soothe soul. It is something far beyond the caption of a gender, something far beyond to a representation. I reckon most boys use warm, not sexualized anime avatars for that reason. Personally, I am a heterosexual male, I have a girlfriend, a fine life, friends, few but enough for me money, so I feel happy. Does that require me to use a heavy masculine guy as a profile picture?
To my point of view, this is the exactly opposite. Masculine males stand for power, strength. People who choose to use such avatars do it because they wish they could become something like that, they don't accept what they are. Their mind is filled with hate about their own body. The ones that are masculine and fill the criteria for the so called Alpha Males usually pick team logos or some edgy, eye catching avatar. That symbolises power, a flame to the heart that keeps them going.
Still however, I might be wrong.

Again, as i have said many times, i do not demand for something to take place. It would be impossible for me to achieve a demand on a forum such as this, much less the whole Internet. I have no control over people, i can only persuade others to see things my way, such as others have persuaded me to see things their way. Also, the reason i said 'MAJORITY' was in fact to not leave others out, i fully understand that there are numerous reasons why people do things, such as pick an avatar. Because i said 'MAJORITY' and not the 'Whole' or 'Entirety', that leaves room for a 'Minority' or 'Others', those 'Minority' chose their avatar for different reasons than being perverted. Also, i do not dismiss the idea of a male using a female avatar, it is a fact that some males do that, for many reasons, i just find it weird, or odd.
And this is all just absurd. The vast generalizations, the stereotyping of people, it's ridiculous. I will never be okay with a male using a female avatar, or a female using a male avatar, whatever the reason is, as i stated above, it is weird and odd to me. No, i do not need to go through 'idiotic length's' to explain my opinion on why others do something. If you must know the simplified version of my opinion well here it is: "I do not like it when men/women use an avatar of the opposite gender to represent them, i find it odd and weird, especially if the avatar is revealing or seductive, then I MAINLY consider that person a pervert, but there could still be other reasons behind the person's choosing of that avatar.". Also, the thread starter cares what men's reasons are for choosing a female anime character as their avatar, so in that case, yes, someone does care.
Again, as i have said many times, i do not demand for something to take place. It would be impossible for me to achieve a demand on a forum such as this, much less the whole Internet. If you're going to make some vast, overly-general statement, you better have actual facts to back it up besides just some anecdote. Especially if your whole reason for making such a statement is do be non-offensive.
I will never be okay with a male using a female avatar, or a female using a male avatar, whatever the reason is, as i stated above, it is weird and odd to me. It is weird and odd to me that a gender can find physically or romantically attractive one of the same gender. I would even go so far as to say it's incredibly weird. But that does not mean I wish to prevent, limit or moderate in any way, shape or form those people's ability to choose who or what they find attractive, nor how they act out their attraction.
Though I guess being racist against people's avatars is cool. 'least it's not their skin.
I've always wondered that. Whenever I see someone with a girl as their avatar, I always automatically presume they're a girl and get a surprise when I find out they aren't.
This. In fact, I ignore that they call themselves a man. If you want to be considered a guy, stop presenting yourself as a girl.
Also, your logical point is backed up by absolutely no evidence whatsoever, and has been confirmed by absolutely zero people that are male and have female avatars. It shouldn't matter what an avatar is. They like it, they use it.

Legend of Avatar isn't actually an anime, sorry if I burst your bubble .
Oh, and by the way, people can choose whatever they want as their profile pictures, and it doesn't necessarily mean anything. I found my profile picture to be funny, no other reason.
She's a girl...
Ok, Bye!
If you're going to make some vast, overly-general statement, you better have actual facts to back it up besides just some anecdote. Especially if your whole reason for making such a statement is do be non-offensive.
'least it's not their skin.
their cleaverm, The acting and animation. yeah.NECKBEERD FORUM
This. In fact, I ignore that they call themselves a man. If you want to be considered a guy, stop presenting yourself as a girl.
