Looks like we have two very unique and edgy individuals here. Clearly, my whole argument is wrong simply because certain people don't care about gender roles or how people see them. It's the internet who cares, right?
I'm not saying people should stop. I never said that. It just doesn't make any logical sense for a straight male to have a sexy anime girl with a personality like a box. It really doesn't. But, whatever. Just shoo me away, doesn't make me look any less right.

Cool, you an misconstrue stuff. How fancy.
But you're not too far off in your remarks. The issue is that you're saying that people, as a collective, view things in only one fashion or manner, or that it's even necessary to care what people think. There isn't a global morality, however, so unless you start asserting that there is one your stance isn't going anywhere.

I'm just gonna ignore your "edgy" remark (which is really ironic.)
Sonic has very little personality either.
You just keep reiterating your points over and over again, but it doesn't work. You mock my point and ignore it, even though it's still valid.
Actually, Govna brings up some pretty good points sometimes. He just comes across as a bad person to a lot of people.
The only issue I have with Govna, is that he tries to be a smart, what with his sarcasm and stuff. In all honesty, Govna is probably one of the smarter people that you'll actually fail to argue with, but he uses sarcasm way too much.
It's funny because the creator of this topic has an anime picture.. Which makes me think ''Seriously? Look at yourself >_>''
Anyway, most (guys) people use them because, well.. You know why. Anime girls, you know.
I'd be surprised if a guy didn't like an anime character..
I have a tiny kind of anime crush I guess.
In college, someone once asked a friend of mine why he played a female character in World of Warcraft, and one of his reasons was "if I'm going to be staring at the back side of someone all day..."
This. I mean if every time I post, I would have to look at a picture, at least make it something you would like to look at. I view forum and game avatars as a picture you choose to look at all the time when using it.
I think that all straight males who use anime girls that look sexy or promote bad ideas about women are perverted. That's why I think they use them, they're perverted or really odd. Someone please tell me what's wrong with that. Don't say, "It's cuz they wannaaaa, chill OUT~."
"You just keep reiterating your points over and over again, but it doesn't work."
Yes it does. I just did it again. You should to prove my point wrong with a logical argument. So far, none of you have done that. You can try and do anything else but that won't work since my point still stands.

I think that all gay males who use male avatars or promote bad ideas about males are perverted.
I believe that the MAJORITY guys that use an anime girl as their profile pic are perverted. I understand that you like their personality, breasts, etc. but I must point out that it is quite awkward to find out that the person with the hot anime girl avatar that you have been chatting with is in fact not a girl... Also i would like to point out that while you may like that character you do not NEED to use them as your avatar, you might not want to because its not your gender, you care about your personal image or etc. If you don't care about any of that then don't complain when people call you a 'perv' or 'weird'. I my self love the character of Lilith from Borderlands, Harley Quinn from Batman, Hinata Hyuga from Naruto, and many more but i do not use them as my avatar because I am a male and i find it weird to represent myself a a female so i found a character that i like Sasuke Uchiha, i think he represents me quite well and i like his character so i use him as my avatar. I have no problem with people who use inanimate objects as their profile pic, or animals, or even cartoon animals that are your gender, I just find it awkward to talk to someone and think that they are a gender that they are not. My argument goes for women that use male characters as well. Also, this is all strictly my OPINION, people can do whatever they want, but we, as society, will judge you.
KER-POW! I chose my avatar as it reminds me of an old game I play from time to time. People choose their avatars for various reasons, and those reasons are not always the same.
I believe that the MAJORITY guys that use an anime girl as their profile pic are perverted. I understand that you like their personality, breasts, etc. but I must point out that it is quite awkward to find out that the person with the hot anime girl avatar that you have been chatting with is in fact not a girl...
The world doesn't revolve around you, and people shouldn't have to change their behavior to preemptively address your naive, and largely faulty conclusions. People will externalize whatever facet of themselves they like, you can only control yourself, it's your own job to adapt at all times.
Also i would like to point out that while you may like that character you do not NEED to use them as your avatar, you might not want to because its not your gender, you care about your personal image or etc.
Why does anyone choose anything as an avatar. Does anyone even need an avatar at all? What is the intended function of an avatar, as a line of thought, where does it come from, where does it go to? Do you need Sasuke as an avatar? Interpretation isn't uniform, your "personal image" in other people's minds based on that will vary. There is a lot more at play than sex, sex is likely quite low on the list.
If you don't care about any of that then don't complain when people call you a 'perv' or 'weird'.
If no one comments on opinions that they view as different ( or even outright "wrong"), they become an echo chamber and never change nor see contrast. That isn't how life works. I think Naruto is commercialized clutter, should you not complain or present a contradicting viewpoint if I were to say that? How would either party, in any scenario, grow or come to understand one another if that was how it "should" work?
Don't expect other people to tiptoe around you. This is the real world.
I my self love the character of Lilith from Borderlands, Harley Quinn from Batman, Hinata Hyuga from Naruto, and many more but i do not use them as my avatar because I am a male and i find it weird to represent myself a a female so i found a character that i like Sasuke Uchiha, i think he represents me quite well and i like his character so i use him as my avatar.
...So you made a personal choice...based on personal opinion...and personal reasoning? That stemmed largely from social and societal beliefs about self image, and self representation?
Tell me why other people using their own reasoning is somehow false, versus your own.
I have no problem with people who use inanimate objects as their profile pic, or animals, or even cartoon animals that are your gender, I just find it awkward to talk to someone and think that they are a gender that they are not.
You're afraid of others, and afraid of having to think and be wrong...So could it be you're just afraid of thinking that something might not be as you think it is?
Come now. Is that any way to be. Much less demonizing others with only that as a justification. All lines lead back to the self, it'd be more accurate to say that you fear some part of yourself in that light.
My argument goes for women that use male characters as well. Also, this is all strictly my OPINION, people can do whatever they want, but we, as society, will judge you.
What.
"We as society will judge you."
Society is a system of working parts. It is made of individuals, with any norms just being patterns (Albeit they do propagate and even set precedents. Mainly in the realm of overall social perception about environment vs. self). Sorry, but you aren't standing secure in some massive group and judging a fringe group of other people. Drop the us vs. them attitude. It's juvenile at best, and self destructive at worst.
I think that all straight males who use anime girls that look sexy or promote bad ideas about women are perverted. That's why I think they use them, they're perverted or really odd. Someone please tell me what's wrong with that. Don't say, "It's cuz they wannaaaa, chill OUT~."
In addition to what everyone else said, I fail to see what's wrong with being perverted.
I believe that the MAJORITY guys that use an anime girl as their profile pic are perverted. ---
You see, this is where your whole statement falls about.
What you think is irrelevant to the decisions others make. In fact, I think it's disgusting you try to force your opinions on other people. I think it's even more disgusting you try and make it seem like others should bow to your every whim, under some presumption that what you think is Right is what everyone else should think is right.
You're right, this has nothing to do with needs, necessities. Because it's a god damned avatar. Grow up.
I believe that the MAJORITY guys that use an anime girl as their profile pic are perverted. I understand that you like their personality, breasts, etc. but I must point out that it is quite awkward to find out that the person with the hot anime girl avatar that you have been chatting with is in fact not a girl...
Sounds like a personal dilemma, welcome to the internet. I can understand that could be a little irritating but that only comes about for guys who actually do pretend to be of the opposite sex, don't put us into the same group, ok buddy? For guys who don't pretend to be the opposite sex, what, are you too lazy to check their profile information? Just because some guys use anime girls as their avatars doesn't mean they're all the same, being trying to fool you or whatever other dumb reasonings you want to throw up.
Like I've said before, personally I've got myself marked as male on my profile and anywhere else for that matter, if someone would get confused about my gender that's their own fault for not checking. With some things being said by people in this thread, it's like you're all saying "Guys need guy related avatars and vice versa, no exceptions." Well damn, sorry I didn't get the memo. Sadly I don't care.
I find it extremely ironic what people are saying is wrong/perverted (big breasts, a little revealing, etc) is what the person who started this thread's avatar can be summed up as. "Well the profile says it's a female and because of it being a girl whose using the avatar, it's fine." (I could see someone saying that)
This issue here starts with every damn person saying men that have female anime characters are straight out perverts pretty much no matter the reason, essentially over-sexualizing women... as usual.
Okay. This is honestly such a simple topic that has been stretched way way further than it's needed to have been.
It's starts right here: The person (male in this case) that sets their forum avatar to an anime girl will have very simple reasons. They like the character, they like her personality, they might think their personality matches, and mainly, they are probably a, emphasis on the words, heterosexual male, who find women attractive in some way or form.
Whatever the reason is. The person that sets their avatar to the anime girl has done it for one reason or another. Now. Why choose a female character? For me, it's because:
1. I like the character Tomoyo. On Skype and MCF, I have her set. On Steam, I have Tachibana from Angel Beats! Because I like her character too. On various other sites, I have various other female anime characters that I like. Oh, and for people saying "well why can't you use other characters?" Well mate, I fail to see the option to have multiple avatars... surely you would have noticed how there is only one single avatar that can be set at a time by now?
2. As a (mostly) heterosexual male, I find women beautiful. Please notice the lack of the word sexy in this. The issue you people that think we're perverts have is that you think that we look at them and just see tits or whatever first. Honestly, that's just plain arrogant to state since you have no clue as to the reason someone sets their avatar to whatever they do. Women are indeed sexy, yes, but not in every context. Women are just as likable, cute, beautiful, etc. when they're not flashing their body or being involved in some sort of sexual innuendo.
3. The art. Female anime characters in art look absolutely stunning, finding male anime characters that are done really well is considerably harder to do.
4. Rather unrelated to the girl/s itself, but it has to blend in with the forum well.
Also, the definition of perversion for you guys that are currently misusing it
perversion |pərˈvər zh ən|
noun
1. the alteration of something from its original course, meaning, or state to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended 2. sexual behavior or desire that is considered abnormal or unacceptable.
I hate to break it to you, but in all complete honesty, I would hardly call someone being sexually attracted to a female abnormal, for those who do have the hots for their avvy. And it's definitely not unacceptable in any form of the word.
On representation. So what, an anime girl represents a guy? Why is that a bad thing? Also, when they say that, they're obviously not referring to the sex, if it were a male with that exact same personality, it would be absolutely no different. Both males and females have varying personalities that stretch to absolutely no end, why would a male with what would be considered a more feminine personality be considered bad, or even more bluntly put, perverted? I'm sorry but that is just absurd.
I'm not saying people should stop. I never said that. It just doesn't make any logical sense for a straight male to have a sexy anime girl with a personality like a box. It really doesn't. But, whatever. Just shoo me away, doesn't make me look any less right.
