Whatever I just said, I didn't mean any offense. Unless we're fighting, in which case I probably did.
If I said something was a joke when it didn't seem like one, I'm making an excuse to avoid an argument I know is coming. Instead of telling me how not funny I am and how it didn't seem like a joke at all, just go along with it. Because flame wars suck and nobody wants to be a part of one.

I regret calling a guy stupid once, especially when he replied with: "Yeah, well... You're even more stupider!" He also used to use the word "betterer" a lot. for example: "My games are more betterer than your games." ...and no, he wasn't joking or trying to be funny, even though he was funny, but that's a different matter.
"You shouldn't play Minecraft, Minecraft is violent" . My mom .
Well, She isn't wrong. You do kill monsters/creatures, which is a form of violence. Probably not what she is thinking, but still, technicallynot wrong.

Actually, following her logic, you would also be considered dumb for calling me dumb. Everyone in this thread would be dumb if what she said is true.
I think that's the point she was making, actually. But I don't really care what she thinks. In my opinion we're just here to have a bit of a laugh about the silly things we've heard.

I was playing Mario Party 2 with my friend, and the following phrase spewed forth from my quasi-conscious stupor:
"How much do coins cost?"

Bear in mind that I tend not to future-proof my posts. If I said something a while back that doesn't make sense, it probably did make sense at the time.
Also, unless my avatar at the time is a Minecraft skin, I probably didn't make it. Google image search is a very real thing.
Don't put words in my mouth, I never said that someone was dumb because I know more advanced maths. I said that someone is dumb for not knowing their basic maths, even though they are in high school (thus they should know that 1+2=3 and not 9). And also that a person who would know advanced maths isn't dumb for calling someone else an idiot. But perhaps I should've left out that second sentence. Or use another example.
If you would call somebody in high school dumb for not knowing 1+2, then yes, you're the dumb one because you've just insulted somebody with a mental disorder to boost your ego. I hope your smugness was worth it, because that is literally the only way that somebody in high school wouldn't know 1+2. And no, I'll say it again, you knowing 'advanced maths' doesn't make you smart or give you the right to call anybody an idiot.
Don't put words in my mouth, I never said that someone was dumb because I know more advanced maths. Earlier in this thread I made a comment about a guy who claims that our planet is flat, even though there's various evidence that contradicts him. However, he simply refuses to look at the evidence about Earth's shape (which is a sphere) and claims that you can't prove that the Earth is a sphere as long as you have never been to space.
Let's say that you are an astrologist or an astronaut and you hear this guy jabbering about the Earth being flat. You show him evidence that the Earth is a sphere. You say that you've SEEN it. The guy still refuses to believe you. You call him an idiot for not facing the facts and believing a delusional idea. Following MysticRedLake's logic, that would mean that the astrologist is actually an idiot, even though he studied a lot for his job.
Absolutely irrelevant. This has nothing to do with what I said. You're attacking a strawman.
Actually, following her logic, you would also be considered dumb for calling me dumb. Everyone in this thread would be dumb if what she said is true. I was simply pointing out the flaws in her comment and was by no means trying to say that 'If I'm smarter than you, then you are dumb!'
Ermagerd don't put words in my mouth! I didn't call you dumb mate, get over yourself. Not everything is a personal attack. You just said something dumb. I also never claimed that you said anything even remotely close to "If I'm smarter than you, then you're dumb".
What you said was silly because you automatically assume that you have the right to call people less intelligent than you dumb. If you think its okay or 'smart' for you to insult somebody who doesn't know 1+2, whatever, I don't care, but don't pretend it somehow shows how clever you are. The implication being made in your post is that the fact that you know far more advanced maths gives you the right to make such statements, which is ridiculous.
So if a 16-year old person says that 1+2=9 and I call them dumb for not knowing basic maths, I am actually the dumb one?
Even though I know far more advanced maths?
Great thinking there.
"I am actually the dumb one? Even though I know far more advanced maths?"
No, I don't think I'm putting words into your mouth at all. You literally said that you aren't the dumb person in the situation because you know far more advanced maths. You are using your ability to use advanced maths as a comparative to judge whether or not you had the right to call somebody dumb.
I am curious to know how good your maths is compared to mine. Maybe I get to use your logic to.
This might sound rude, but if someone is not able to solve a basic math problem such as 1+2, then they shouldn't be in a high school.
You made the scenario, not me.
There are specialised schools to help people with discalculie. That aside, I myself would never call someone dumb in real life. That situation was hypothetical, I hope you get that.
So in hypothetical land its okay, but in real life its not? This is the exact nonsense that is causing me to debate you on this. You can't say that your point is right because its only a hypothetical. The whole point is that a hypothetical is a what if, and you're saying that calling that person dumb because you're better at math is okay.
And I'll say it again as well. I NEVER INTENDED TO CLAIM that me being smarter than someone else gives me the right to insult anyone else. Perhaps it might've sounded like it, but I repeat, I NEVER INTENDED TO CLAIM THIS.
Doesn't matter if you intended to claim it, because you did claim it.
...What? The only thing you said was:
This might be the dumbest thing anyone has said.
"I know far more advanced maths, you're dumb".
Great thinking there.
...to disagree with my post. To prove my point in a better way, I gave you another example. I don't see how that's irrelevant. You didn't even seem to make a point there, you just called what I said 'The dumbest thing anyone has said', quoted me and used sarcasm.
It is irrelevant because I don't give a toss what your 'point' is.
You said, and I quote, this:
This might be the dumbest thing anyone has said. (You referred to my post here.)
"I know far more advanced maths, you're dumb". (If you know more advanced maths than someone else, you are in fact more intelligent. But you seem to claim here that I said that knowing more than someone else automatically makes the other person dumb. I did not meabn this.)
First, the thing I bolded. It is kind of depressing that you genuinely believe that. There are people in this world who know nothing about math who would blow you out of the water in terms of intelligence, and you know it.
And you pretty much did say that knowing more than someone else automatically makes the other person dumb. I quote:
"So if a 16-year old person says that 1+2=9 and I call them dumb for not knowing basic maths, I am actually the dumb one?"
The meaning is clear that somebody is the dumb one. So who is it? Don't pretend that's not what you meant.
Again, I did never want to claim that someone else is dumb for not knowing that I know.
Unless that something is advanced maths, apparently.
I claimed that if someone else knows advanced maths, he doesn't automatically become dumb for calling someone else dumb (even though that is bad), because that is what MysticRedLake seems to claim.
That is what MysticRedLake seems to claim. That is not, however, what I claim.
You have understood it wrongly, perhaps because English isn't my mother language. I'll explain it. Even though intelligence is relative (a high school student is more intelligent than a child, but an university student is more intelligent than the high school student),
Not always.
I suppose you would call someone in high school who gets high scores for mathematics intelligent, right?
No, not really. Even if I did, that wouldn't make somebody not good at maths less intelligent than somebody good at maths.
Now, let's say that this high school student calls someone dumb. Does that automatically make him an idiot? No, of course not. Whether he just insulted someone or not is irrelevant to his intelligence.
Just like this quote is irrelevant to my point, right?
I don't exactly see the point of this. My situation I put there in the upper comment was hypothetical and thus not real.
The whole point of a hypothetical is a what if. Your opinions on a hypothetical mirror your opinions in the real world. Just because you said something as a hypothetical situation doesn't mean I can't disagree with it. If you think its okay in a hypothetical, you think its okay in real life. Your whole argument revolves around the idea that maths = smart. It doesn't.
I suddenly regret posting that comment.
That's because it wasn't very clever, at the end of the day.
Really, the point isn't as to whether or not its nice to call people dumb. Its the "Even though I know far more advanced maths" part. You're using this as a means to justify calling somebody dumb, but maths skills and intelligence are not the same. But you'll probably try to dodge this one again and say that I'm misunderstanding the phrase. So I'll take a more direct quote from you:
"If you know more advanced maths than someone else, you are in fact more intelligent"
That quote sums up everything wrong with your argument. You are saying somebody is dumb if they aren't good at maths compared to you and try to justify calling them such. That is completely wrong, and a pretty dumb thing to say (thought I'd throw that in to stay on-topic).

Well DUH! Of course its going to be in the last place I look, I'm not going to keep searching after I found it!!!

me: no passing to your right is this way. (passes mock test to right)
person: no its the other way (passes it to the left)
me: no, its not.
person: how do you know?
me: (holds up left hand making an "L" shape.) because when you hold up your left hand it looks like an "L"
person: not to me
me: were on opposite sides of the table!
person: well, to you I'm left handed, so what you would call my left hand is my right hand
other person: er... what?
