Hi, me and my friend are having an argument on whether Cheetos are chips or not. Please vote and reply to give a detailed reason on why or why not.
My Answer:
No.
Why? Cheetos are not made of potatoes and they do not look like what I think of as a chip.
EDIT: Well, there are tortilla chips, I suppose. But really, Cheetos are made way differently than any chips.
I've also stolen this quote from Yahoo! Answers that I really like:
They are a salty corn-based snack. Chips are a salty potato-based snack. Other salty snacks that are not chips would be pretzels, pork skins, ect. Of course, all of these are sold in the same area of the store but they are not all "chips".
That's what I said to my friend, and he still stands his ground. I've also Google searched the subject and there's even more people that think it's a chip!
Hmm.. I thought Cheetos would be in almost all countries.. guess not. They're a cheese coated puffy snack that is shaped like a stick, but it's shape is sorta random from the next piece, unlike chips.
Chips are "Chip shaped", right?
They are flat and crispy.
Cheetos are well... puffy.
Just because both are salty junk foods does not mean that one can manipulate the other.
It's like comparing Pasta to ramen.
I consider a chip to be anything that has been sliced, cut, or otherwise chipped, off of an original product and then processed further into a snack food. By those terms I'd have to say yes. However, by terms of what most people consider a chip, its a no.
Thank God I'm not the only one. I hate the original too t.t
Yea I sometimes buy the Flamin Hot ones, but I love anything spicy and those are great! I never see anyone else pick those up in the store(always stocked full), hopefully they keep making them. Of course the same goes for hot salsa, I always see tons of mild and medium but some stores do not carry the hot I have to actually go to a local chain to get it instead of walmart.

Cheetos if anything would fit under Corn Chips. (if you were to define it as a chip)

No, there is a variant of Cheetos that's baked. It's called "Cheetos Baked!".
I would consider those chips then :P.
