Well, I got to school and found a USB stick on the ground. It had no case, and had a few small scratches. The scratches were short circuiting some of the lil' bits on the USB, so I had to separate them with a knife.
I knew that it'd be pretty easy to put some malware on a USB, and just leave it on the ground for someone to find, so when my friend had to go on a computer to finish assignments, I asked him to test it out for me. He didn't explore the USB much, and told me that it was a Norton360 USB, and apparently had Norton on it. The USB was only 240Mb. Nothing bad happened when he opened it, so I assumed it was safe to at least open on my own computer.
So when I got home, I had a look through it. Inside was, as he said, Norton360 setup files. I am rather suspicious of the files on it, because I'd be pissed off if I opened an anti-virus and got a virus. After exploring through the USB a little more, it has some other stuff. There's a .PDF file with some pictures on it. The pictures have cheques/invoices that are obviously for my school. There's only one, I think. The cheque is paying for $14 000 worth of T-shirts.
Another weird thing was that I found a poem on it. A very, um, interesting poem. It's got few profane words in it, and it doesn't really make much sense to me(I haven't actually read it properly, although it's not that long.)
I'm pretty certain it belongs to a student, even though it contains a file with pictures of cheques and invoices. The poem's title is "Dat poem." Teachers would not write an odd poem with profane words in it, and name it Dat Poem.
Now, here's what I need to know.
What should I do with it?
I'd take a few pictures, but I think I've ranted a little too much about this largely unexciting subject.
Contact the person in invoice and ask him/her about it. Give it back.
It's 240 MB, what would you do with it anyway. It's worthless to everybody but the person who might be looking for it because of the invoices.
The invoices didn't reveal much. There was only a few pictures, and the pictures were often missing parts(off camera).
If I knew who owned the USB, I would have said so. I'm pretty sure the person who was wrote the cheques in the picture was not the person who owned the USB.
EDIT: The invoices/cheque PICTURES were not of great importance, I just found it a little odd that they were there. They do not include names, only account numbers and amount payed etc.
Please don't do this. Just return it to whoever owns it. I find it kind of disturbing that the first course of action on your mind was to post about it on the Minecraft forum and tell everybody its contents.
@Cue, there was no "first course of action". It was not like I picked up the USB, raced home to my computer and shared so proudly what I'd found. This USB contains a picture and a poem, not much of a loss for anybody who loses it.
