You could really just drop the whole 'maintaining freedom of speech' aspect, as really all rules are restricting the complete freedom of it, and just look at the fact that prohibition has never worked, and has usually had the exact opposite of the desired outcome.
I disagree. While it depends on their usage and placement in the sentence they can shift the vibe in a useful way conventional words and textual augmentations (things like underlining, italicising) simply cannot. Swears have their place, this is why they came into existence to begin with.
You mean, by replacing words that actually say exactly the point you are trying to get across with words that don't, it is more clear?
Yes, swears have their place, but probably not on a forum that attracts all ages, including extremely young.

Right! Let's insure the over-sensitivity of youth by making sure their minds are not tainted by dirty words, because those words will corrupt our youth. It'll make them take up drugs, join gangs, do poorly in school, and might even push them towards pirating media.

Sometimes mockery is the best form of argument. I totally agree, ignoring reality is childish.

It's not really about whether it's actually bad if children use profanity, but about how parents and society in general will perceive it. Parents will not like the profanity, and children that are exposed to profanity will be more likely to use it, and society will punish them for it, whether by direct punishment from teachers, or by shaming the children.

Because there aren't already other rules to make this forum more friendly to all ages.
Pandering to the small group of "extremely young" at the expense of the vast majority is insulting.
Is it really that hard to change words slightly? Is it physically impossible for you to not swear? I don't think I've swore in thousands of posts here, because there is no need to.
Besides, we've been over this "expense" before. The expense is you can't swear, and the only "reason" I've seen for it is "because I want to!"

Right, so let's encourage and promote that train of thought, to insure that the perception of shunning and condemnation of those that use profanity continues.

"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently"
Don't be so obsessive over the perceptions of others.

Honestly, it is a hassle, I've had to rewrite paragraphs in which I react to the childish actions of the mods.

Regardless, preventing a section of users from the using the community because of something frivolous is not good.
And honestly, that point is fairly irrelevant in my opinion, simply because of how frivolous it is. They're words. For the same reason they shouldn't be considered bad, they shouldn't be considered important either. There are plenty of other words to describe things, profanities are superfluous in that regard. We should be able to use them just so we can use them? Who cares!?

I... agree?
I care about being able to use them, because I enjoy using them. I don't see how your previous points lead to your final one.
It just needs to be brighter.

*sighs*
Cool. Let me go tell the Hatters about it.

Let's see if it catches on.

I'm done being constructive.

Its posts like these that make me wish I didn't spend my rep on stupid things.

What expense though?

Turns out its not allowed anywhere on the site.

And I already take issue with them.
Is that so wrong? I like to type how I type.
There have been a couple threads. It usually hovers around the 13-15 range.

None of the previous rules ever affected me. This one does.

About the age where swearing in school becomes almost second nature mind you.
Not exactly scientific, but this is the best one I found
