In some countries, it's a sign of fertility/having money. However, when you're in a country where beauty is commercialized, it's looked down on because people think that photoshopped models are the status quo.
So basically, when advertisers show off impossibly thin people trying to sell you 8 different types of beauty products, you can shake your fist at them because you know they aren't helping.
Maybe because being fat usually makes someone less attractive?
The key point here is that these are opinions, not quantifiable fact. And more importantly it depends on the person. After all, who would like to tell me Beth Ditto is less attractive than Jocelyn Wildenstein?
The key point here is that these are opinions, not quantifiable fact.
Again, that's why I didn't state it as an absolute, because there are always outliers, like on almost any scatter plot. But there is definitely a correlation, and anyone who genuinely believes otherwise is a moron.
On a per-person basis it may be up to opinion, but in this case, what are we to use as reference if not opinions?
Being someone who is sensitive, thoughtful, and introspective, I figure I'll add my opinion on the matter.
Fat is not very aesthetic at all to me. I weight a meager 118 lbs. I think that people tend to look for relationships with people whose physical build doesn't differ too much them themselves. If I were to be in a relationship with a 300 lbs woman, there would be many many problems. For one, our diets would probably be vastly different. One of us would always be hot and the other cold. Doing most physical activities together would be nearly impossible. The sex would be terrible... and perhaps dangerous.
There's a strange argument going around, and I see it here, that beauty is something that is completely relative to the culture. It's cited that some cultures (indigenous ones) view fat as attractive because of how rare it is. I think than even from the relativist's perspective this argument doesn't carry much weight (heh). If we're here posting on the internet, we're not an indigenous culture somewhere. We're in a technological society where weight causes a lot of inconveniences and health risks (due to our sedentary lifestyles). Though it may be true that our vision of beauty might be warped by the commercial industries, it certainly doesn't imply that obesity is attractive or ideal in any way.
Slow metabolism = More time breaking down foods
More time breaking down foods = More un-broken-down (???) food left over
More un-broken-down (???) food left over = More food piling up
More food piling up = More fat
More fat = Being overweight
Are you mentally retarded sir? You just said overweight. Your last post you said obesity. BEING OVERWEIGHT AND BEING OBESE IS NOT THAT SAME. I EVEN SAID METABOLISM CAN CAUSE ONE TO BE OVERWEIGHT. NOT OBESE. Stop flip flopping ffs.
sorry about that
I thought this thread was supposed to be a civilized discussion
