"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary, full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen." - Sterling Archer, aka "Duchess", aka "world's most dangerous spy".
The last time someone broke into my place, he woke me and my girlfriend up. I ended up taking his shin out from underneath him with my hockey stick. I held him down until my girlfriend called the police.
He wasn't armed. It could've been a tragedy if he was.

If there were a burglar...hrm...I would hope that he would trip over a wire that would activate a series of railguns lined up along the entryway, filling him with little metal spikes at a fraction of light speed. On the slight chance he/she avoids it, I am not really worried - I am always armed with a foam dart gun that looks like a Star Wars blaster. If that doesn't work, I would call my imaginary girlfriend to come and save me.

Intelligence is not one and the same with knowledge.
Depends on what weapon he is carrying. If he had a gun, I'd try to exit the house and call the police or someone. If he had a knife, I'd probably try to knock him out while he was unaware, or I'd do the same as if he had a gun. If he had no weapons, I'd probably try to out match him with a bat or something.
Let's say you're home alone. You've just been minding your own business, and someone knocks on the door. You get up, open the door, and you're suddenly attacked by a burglar.
What do you do?
That's not how the game works. I've never heard of that scenario happening. Thieves are cowards. If they weren't cowards they'd be muggers. Here's how the game does work:
They knock on the door. If you answer, they say they're a mormon or they're looking for a friend's house or something. If nobody answers, they attempt to let themselves in. They still have plausible deniability at this point if they "thought it was their friend's house." If nobody's home and the door is locked, then they will check other doors and windows. As a last resort they'll break a window.
Even if your neighbors hear a loud noise (such as a window breaking) they'll only pause a few seconds. If they don't hear anything else, they'll go back to what they were doing. At this point, the thief makes off with your stuff (including the money hidden under your mattress, in the kitchen cupboard, and in your underwear drawer). Nothing is sacred. If it doesn't get taken, it gets flipped and looked-under to see if there's anything worth taking underneath it. Your safe is gone. (Too bad you didn't bolt it down.) Your gun case is gone too. Lots of stuff is either gone or destroyed and chances are you'll never catch who done it.
But let's rewind and suppose that we are home and we can't be arsed to answer the door. Either they barge in the unlocked door or they come in a window. You see them, they see you, they break and run. Thieves are cowards. They don't want trouble. They just want an easy mark.

I'll be sure to pose the next burgler for a picture, just to show it off to an internet forum full of strangers.
