I'm 13 years old and I currently own one. Samsung dumbphone, nothing special. It has some limited Internet capability, though. On March I'm getting it upgraded to an Android smartphone. Can't wait!
Now, on the subject of cellphones and age; In my opinion, it's never too early to own one. In fact, it's rather best to have one earlier, as not only can you contact an emergency number in dire situations, but also stay in touch with friends and family.

I don't feel like putting anything witty here, sorry.

I really try to respect other people's opinions, and not dislike them for them. But you're making it very hard. When I was young, cell phones were practically unused by the masses. you didn't see 5 year olds walking down the street screwing about on some cell phone they don't yet have any reason to have. Nor the experiences or responsibility to be trusted with them.
As for the younger the better, I really hope this is a troll post. Cell phones do give out abnormally high RF frequencies that oscillate certain cell types in a damaging manner. The younger you are, the more developmental abnormalities you're likely to have because of them. Same goes for alpha, beta, or gamma radiation.
So no. Its sad to see your child-like fascination with cell phones and communication, as well as your somewhat warped views on necessity. Again, this all from my perspective. I hate society these days, your post is just a means to reinforce that.
Yes. I've had the same one for almost two years now, which means my contract is almost up. It's my first one, and I got it when high school started because I do lots of extra-curriculars so I'm always needing to tell my mom or someone when I need a ride and all that good stuff. I'm getting an iPhone once my contract expires in June.

Cell phone radiation have not been actually proven to abnormally affect us. If you're really that paranoid, might as well cover yourself in tinfoil.
Get your stupid "I hate society" attitude out of here.
I got mine when I was 10 years old, I think. That was actually way later than most people in my school, here in Norway. Now I'm 15 years old, and I still don't use my cellphone a lot. I got my second phone like 3 or 4 years ago, since my old one broke.
To be honest, I don't see the problem. Kids nowadays surf the Internet all the time, and can get into a lot worse things then with the cellphone.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, an opinion cant be awful. Its an opinion. Its your opinion that his opinion is awful.

Paranoia isn't really a factor in the face of facts. There have been multiple studies proving higher cancer rates at younger ages of those who actively use a mobile phone vs. a control group of those who don't.

Couldn't live without it now that I have it.

Good. You're 11, you don't need one.
Love the reception its gets. I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere and I get 3-4 bars where my moms iphone4 get 0-2 bars.
