whenever there's a thread or video criticizing capitalism, there's always a positive response toward it. It's praised as being an eye opener and truth reveler. However if someone does the same thing and then offers an alternative to the complaints everyone has, they are immediately besieged by the same people who don't like capitalism, being called communists and NWO.
Thestoryofstuff for example, talks about "planned obsolescence" and offers the solution that goods be made to last as long as possible and not be designed to break down quickly just to accelerate consumption. Some call her a communist just because she dares to touch the rich to make them change their ways.
Long story short, people like to complain about capitalism but they don't want to change it. Probably because they've only been taught that capitalism and communism are the only 2 economic systems in the world, so anything that touches the rich is automatically communist and evil.
Communism only still occurs in China, by the way, and most people know that it has been proven to not work. So, stop calling people communists for not liking capitalism.
Go read up on Communism before you spew nonsense which you know nothing about.
These anti-capitalistic protesters make me laugh. Half of them have probably never even had a job and, subsequently, actually been part of the system.
Not having a job is a major reason why they are protesting at the moment. Ever heard of unemployment? Being part of the "system" has nothing to do with anything.
And I thought I left OT knowing people actually knew what Communism is. *sigh*

this is so true.
If we go within capitalism, we get things like in 2010 during the senate elections with interviews with tea party members. They were saying things along the lines of "We have to fight Obama and fix the Government and the economy." The only "solution" they had was to cut spending, which DEFINITELY won't help. Other than that, they were just saying they'll fight Obama, but they gave no good ways to do it. Arguing with the president won't get you very far.
And I thought I left OT knowing people actually knew what Communism is. *sigh*
being only 14 i haven't read the communist manifesto or anything, but what I know of it is this:
It is a government where all people share what they have and everyone is made as close to equals as possible, and they are required to work as much as they need and be as happy as possible.
Unfortunately, this has its issues. People who are lower down and are then made equals may become complacent and lazy. If we move towards Socialism, we get things like modern-day Greece, which overtaxed itself giving out money. Now there is a population that is too lazy to work and has a collapsing government!
If there were a way to sustain a Communist society, yes, even better than the USSR, it might just work.
Communism is defiantly a better system than capitalism,In the sense that it's more sustainable, If it's done right. Read the book "The Giver". Their society is basically the perfect example of communism. However, communism tends to go ageist human nature in the sense that You tend to be quite limited on what you are able to do. Communism Can make a country absolutely stable, It exchange for making it insanely difficult to advance. (economically wise.)
You are seriously delusional if you think Greece is failing because it's workforce is "lazy". It's pathetic and Incredibly insulting.
Had the Greek government not bought an assload of bonds from banks thats were sercuritizing bonds and insurnaces on those bonds they wouldn't be in the position they are today. With little tax or socially productive industry, the only money came from borrowing, and when you mix that public debt with being screwed over by financial institutions you have a problem. You also have corruption problems to sprinkle on the top
dude. read my whole post. I never said the workforce is the reason it's failing. I said the giving out money is the problem, and the lazy people's government is failing around them. Wellfare made them complacent, so now they'll have a hard time getting out of the pit they're in.
being only 14 i haven't read the communist manifesto or anything, but what I know of it is this:
No need to read The Communist Manifesto. I have addressed all of these in my other thread (Communism: Q&A) and I should have already left OT, but eh, in short:
It is a government where all people share what they have
No. Only the means of production will be shared. You can have your wife, your house (not a mansion), your toothbrush, and your clothing.
and everyone is made as close to equals as possible
No, and neither is that desirable.
and they are required to work as much as they need and be as happy as possible.
In a sense...
Unfortunately, this has its issues. People who are lower down and are then made equals may become complacent and lazy.
They become lazy, they get fired, exiled, or have what they receive from the commune in turn for their contributions cut off. Moreover, if these people are lazy, they directly affect themselves as they are the ones producing the goods and working the services which they themselves utilize. It would be in their best interest to work.
If we move towards Socialism, we get things like modern-day Greece, which overtaxed itself giving out money. Now there is a population that is too lazy to work and has a collapsing government!
Not really, no. Greece cannot be compared to an actual Socialist state.
If there were a way to sustain a Communist society, yes, even better than the USSR, it might just work.
The USSR was never Communist, it is not even Socialist as interpreted by multiple schools of though - namely Trotskyism. Trying reading up on communism though.

No. ****ing no. That sorry excuse for communism combines the worst parts of capitalism under an authoritarian banner and calling it "communism".
So, stop calling people communists for not liking capitalism. These anti-capitalistic protesters make me laugh. Half of them have probably never even had a job and, subsequently, actually been part of the system.
And why do you think that is? Because they're lazy? Or because they were not given equal opportunities in education and other stuff?
Reminds me of this: Before the OWS protests, all of Congress was just like, "we need to make jobs!" Then after OWS started, you get, "why can't these hobo protestors get jobs?"
So, how can they criticise? Oh, and rather than just complain why don't these people actually look for alternatives to capitalism that work (not that I think there is one)?
They have every right to criticize to get a better political and economic system.
So, what does it matter if the system is a little unfair? It still works a darn lot better than other economic systems currently tested.
Scandinavian Socio-Capitalism. Your argument is invalid. And just because it's better than most other stuff doesn't mean that there is no room for improvement.
I think the term is "knee-jerk reaction". Through decades of Cold War propaganda, capitalizm is practically followed like a religion.
Precisely. Western governments brainwashed their citizens that because they were being threatened by a nation that calls itself communist (though it quite obviously isn't), therefore all communism is evil. That will make it's mark on society for years to come.
Scandinavian Socio-Capitalism. Your argument is invalid. And just because it's better than most other stuff doesn't mean that there is no room for improvement.
I think capitalism needs the most improvement of any government in a 1st or possibly 2nd world country. And, keeping with topic, I will be honest in saying I don't know what needs to be done, but political parties just trying to pass bills against eachother is not getting us anywhere.
No system has totally free markets. Every country on earth has some measure of intervention in it's market structure. I think Anne Leonard is a moron personally and Lee Doran has addressed her arguments from "the story of stuff" to "the story of broke". Whatever the case assaulting the rich isn't the issue. It's an issue of can you grab teh reigns of the leviathan(the state) and make it do what is in the interest of the most people? That answer seems to be no. It is a fundamental collective action problem. The more the state can interfere with a markets the more profit can be derived from seizing the state and using that to generate rents or uncompensated profits, while the greater amount of intervention the state performs the less likely the public will be able to monitor all activities.
Some on the left want to divorce themselves from teh state and recognize the flaw of using that tool. It's somewhat of a paradox that the more the left fights to increase the power of the state the more they are enriching a select few. Me i just want free markets and i wanna keep my stuff.
Letting off taxes on the rich won't make them make business. How often does it really work like that, every century? The more money you give to the rich, the higher the poor are taxed, making for greedy rich folks with too much money and poor people starving to pay their taxes. In an ideal ( to me ) society, The rich would be taxed at the highest percentage of income of everyone.
This, obviously, is not the only problem with america's capitalist government, but it definitely didn't help.

Please stop playing the human nature game.
On topic, I agree with OP.
Whenever Obama suggests something to help the public or fix the economy, Republicans start calling him Socialist.
