I usually don't ask for math help on a forum but this is an exception I guess? I am supposed to turn an equation into y=mx+b form and on some of them I'm confused.
For example:
x+5y=15
x-6y=2
And ones like that. The thing that confuses me is that the x isn't multiplied by another number and I don't know how to do it.

Maybe this will help you.
There is a coefficient (number) in front of the X. It is not written because it is a placeholder. The number in front of the X is 1. So the problem you listed as an example, x+5y=15. Is actually 1X+5Y=15. The reason the 1 isn't shown is because it does nothing but holds a place. So whenever there is no coefficient (number) in front of a variable (letter) you simply do the problem like normal. If you still don't get it let me know!

You just have to try to get y by itself. M in this case would just be 1. Here, I'll do the first one for you:
x + 5y = 15
Subtract x from both sides
5y = 15 - x
Divide both sides by 5
y = 3 - x/5
Rewrite to proper y = mx + b form
y = (-1/5)x + 3
1. Subtract 2 from each side: x - 2 - 6y = 0
2. Add 6y to each side: x - 2 = 6y
3. Flip the sides: 6y = x - 2
4. Divide each side by 6: y = (1/6)x - (1/3)
Also written as y = (x/6) - (1/3)

Now, now, children, your uncle DethPotato is here to tell you to be nice to each other regardless of each others' opinions. Or, you could slightly change the topic of this thread so that your current discussion fits.
Everyone has seen the very numerous threads bashing the various features of 1.9, Notch, Mojang, etc. Can we turn down the hating? Just a little bit? Sure, everyone may not be pleased with enchanting, or potions, but really, is it at all realistic to expect that Notch will undo his work from the past several weeks and take these features out? One, that would infuriate far more players than it might pacify, and two, something like that is completely unprecedented in a game as popular as Minecraft. Complete feature removal? Forget about it. Nobody is forcing you to use enchantments and potions.

Adding an XP bar does NOT, I repeat NOT turn Minecraft into an RPG. An RPG, to quote the dictionary, is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting and take those characters through a structured narrative or structured decision making.
.
Fantasy elements are often found in RPGs, but the reverse is NOT true. Fantasy != RPG. XP bar + minor fantasy elements does not and WILL NEVER equal an RPG in Minecraft, since Minecraft is completely devoid of a plot whatsoever.
.
Finally, at the end of the day, you have to give Notch and Mojang some credit for what they have accomplished. Minecraft has over 3 million users. If Mojang was making bad gameplay decisions, why is Minecraft one of the most popular video games of all time? Because Mojang knows what they are doing. The success of Minecraft is testament to it.
.
tl;dr: If you cannot come up with a completely valid reason for claiming that 1.9 ruins Minecraft, please keep your mouth shut.

x+5y=15
5y=-x+15
y=-1/5x+3

I'll assume you're either in beginning high school math, or you're a support math class in college. Either way, I can help (I think).
Okay, y=mx+b form is actually -REALLY- common in math, you'll see it a LOT, so it's good you're addressing this problem now.
These problems are simple divide/multiply issues, so keep an open mind, okay?
We'll tackle the first one now: x+5y=15
Well, that essentially is saying mx+y=b, all you need to do is switch stuff around to make y=mx+b, really.
So you'd do 5y=-x+15 (Remember to change the sign (Positive or negative) when going from one side of the equation to the other).
Now, you need to make that pesky 5y turn into just y. Best way: Divide. Now, to do this, you'll need to divide BOTH sides by 5 to ensure that every part is getting an equal part of the solution.
In short, it'd be (5y/5)= (-x/5) + (15/5)
5y/5 = y
-x/5 = -1x/5 (you can't simplify it, so don't get so worked up over it.)
15/5 = 3
Thanks. I guess what confused me is when you divide 5 by everything. I didn't know if it was supposed to be y=x/5 + 3 or what you said. I needed that help :smile.gif:

Subtract or add x depending on the sign
The laws of magic are absolute. The laws of physics are optional.
5y= -x + 15
-6y= -x +2
u divide both sides by the coefficient of y, (which would be 5 and -6 in this case.)
y= -1/5x + 3
y= 1/6x - 1/3
First example
x+5y=15
5y=-x+15
y=-1/5x+3
Basically what you need to do is SUBTRACT x.
Second example:
x-6y=2
-6y=x+2
y=-1/6x-1/3
I hope this has helped.

2. Divide each side by 5: y = (-x/5) + 3
Also written as y = (-1/5)x + 3
1. Subtract 2 from each side: x - 2 - 6y = 0
2. Add 6y to each side: x - 2 = 6y
3. Flip the sides: 6y = x - 2
4. Divide each side by 6: y = (1/6)x - (1/3)
